BEIJING 2008 OLYMPIC STADIUM IS THE BEST DESIGN!.....it looks more like the ARCHITECTURE that we should pushing for the future designs...design should not go back in time.....therefore the 2012 olympic stadium looks old fashioned and looks like something that some architect drawn at the last minute.....2012 stadium is just ugly and boring looking!
it looks like a chinese noodle soup bowl :D just kidding well I can only feel sorry for london to be the next city to host the Olympics because they have a huge chinese shoe to fill.
Can we literally see it? Is it literally a year since they started building? Could this guy literally say literally any more? So embarrassing that someone so illiterate is involved with the games. Probably a lot more like this too. It is a joke.
Yet another corporate robbery of the tax payer’s money. There are so many stadiums in London with its many football teams (bloody Wembley’s just been rebuilt). There was absolutely no need for this. The only real reason I see for this pillage that of the contractors getting their grubby hands (ie Livingston/Johnson) into the taxpayer pot and grabbing the £9 billion could have been put into the NHS, the education system, or just generally fixing the hell hole that is East London.
Looking forward to seeing it completed, i was'nt sure of the design at first, but it's a clever design in the big sceme of things, i'm sure it will look good when completed.
Besides, you can't really compare the Olympic stadium with Wembley. This is a much simpler, more straightforward design, designed as a temporary structure with a moderate sized athletics venue to remain long term.
What makes you think it won't be finished? Other than ungrounded pessimism?
Originally i didn't like the design for the main stadium but it's grown on me. Quite conservative but slightly reminiscent of a colosseum. I'm sure it'll be fantastic when it's completed!!
Beijing had the money but we have the people and the culture.
In the city of Beijing during the olympics everything was dead and there was barely any excitement but London will be jam packed with music, dancing and life.
If you live in London do everything you can to help because this is a once in a lifetime experience.
Yup it's definetly an 80,000 seat stadium. I can't wait to go and hoping i can get tickets for the opening ceremony. I only live a few miles from the Olympic Park and cannot wait till it all kicks off!
Well done to the Olympic committe and Seb Coe for winning the games for London. It will be my first Oylmpics i have ever been to and will be my daughters first as well.
Hey It looks small. Are u sure they will fit 70 000 plus in there?? I saw the June updated pics and even inside looks small. Good Luck to London though. You Guys deserve it.
My dad saw it recently and sai the same thing. I thing it looks small cause the lower tier is dug down into the ground. Its supposed to have no catering facilities so I think that has probably shaved off a what would have been a bigger building.
cant wait to see the olympic park im going to the olympics in 2012 anyone know how much a ticket would cost? or is it too early...cant wait to see the velodrome!
i dont see why so many people complain that 'our stadium is crap'. just because beijing had some sort of birds nest doesnt mean we have to go one better. Its the middle of a global recession and we in britain are going to do things the way we want to. We have nothing to proove, china did, we dont have anything to worry about, plus its the games and the legacy that count, not the size of the venues. In my opinion they all look great and i cant wait for the games to come to the UK...
im rooting for japan or the US to get 2016 olympcs, and thanks for that comment, theresa bloody good reason london will be the city thats hosted the olmypics the most come 2012.
Did you see the initial design for the stadium? I think cause this one is so conservative compared to that it visually is a bit dissapointing. I do transport design so am probably biased towards to aesthetics.
We have a much more impressive aquatics stadium I personally think and the velodrome looks quite nice as well. Its nice to see positve comments and like you I can't wait as well.
No your not alone, the creativity tapped into the olympic stadium seems to be so restricted - and i know next to nothing about design and am far too young to be so cynical. But i am extremely dissapointed, espeically when the legacy for the stadium, is not even there.
the frame structure is what i find lacklustre, it looks simular to an on shore gas tank silo.
@03cammd79 i wish the games would come to toronto, your stadium is amazing, anything that holds 80 000 people and build in 3 years is amazing to us, in toronto all we have is a small stadium -.-
@03cammd79 The Beijing stadium cost $423million or £258million...the London Olympic Stadium, which is meant to be a somewhat temporary structure (which should make it cheaper) will cost £537million...so for two iconic "Birds Nests"...you would get one London Olympic Stadium...also the Birds Nest could hold 91,000 people, 11,000 more than LOS. Do the math...London was ripped off and wont even get a great legacy stadium
it looks quite small when you think it's gonna hold 85,000 people but then you realise as it has to have a running track etc, the diameter and circumfrence has to be larger. looks awesome.
the olympic commitee said that london have suppassed previous olympics by their building techniques, qualtiy of the build and also ahead of schedule. go London!!!
I'm not a huge fan of the stadium design myself, but it's not my opinion!! Congratulations on being a year in, I must say it looks as if you've got very far over that timeframe.
that stadium is so big,,,
