Blacksabfan, you amaze me , im not a beliver in any religion, but shit you must be close to God if he exisits, are you god??? where the hell do you get this stuff from??? Thankyou. what can i say Moore/ Lynott were a fab pair when they were together , Downie is got to be in the top ten of all time drummers, surely. I would have been 10 and still sucking my thum, but into Slade who were pritty good at this time too.. Thanks again pal
Downey is one of the most under-rated drummers ever!! Between this, Emerald, and some others, he's amazing with those double bass drums and the beats!
This was a gem of a song, I have studio release on "Remembering" LP . I always wondered what the word Sitamoia means Phil was the real deal, does'nt get much better!!
This is EXCELLENT. Saw Skid Row and Thin Lizzy (with Eric Bell) several times and was a huge fan of both bands (still am). I'd have sold my grandmother to see this Lizzy lineup.
Heheh... It's funny to hear that the Roisin Dubh solo had been knocking about before then. I wonder how often Gary played it in the middle of his gigs.
My Favorite Early Lizzy Song. I asked Brian Bout this Song in Person when I met him in '96 and Was told its an old Irish Folk song in Gaelic. Very Nice and Thx again.. Crazy That There's SO MUCH More Stuff from T L on HERE now then Couple Yrs ago.
It would have been awesome to see Lynott along with Ritchie Blackmore and Ian Paice in their frustrated Baby Face project...it would have been a superband!
Sad to say I was at this concert but cant say I remember them finishing with this track.
I do remember that Eric Bell just happened to be in bristol that night and Lizzy played The Rocker with Moore, Scott, and Eric Bell all taking turns at lead.
The guitar solo at the beginning is from "Black Rose", but the video titles says 1974 - didn't black rose come out in 1978? Or maybe he'd already written that solo before the Black Rose album came out?
For the record, I really like the studio version, but the ending is a bit tiring. The verse part at the beginning is great though. Those crushing chords...
it's the feeling and rawness to phil's voice when he sings the verse that really gets to me. You can tell he had a real empathy with what was going on about what was happening in africa. And I think geldof robbed "There won't be any snow in Africa this christmas" or at least the premise from this
@SoldierofFortune07 you are not wrong about Geldof...rumour is that he and Midge Ure got the idea for Band Aid/Live Aid from Phil, when he talked about helping the starving children in Africa. obviously, those two took things much further and did not involve Phil at all but he planted the seed...
as for this song, it is very powerful...yet another long forgotten gem from Lizzy
Even though I've always hated this song it's got to be another 5 star rating for the rarety value. Thanks for posting yet another rare classic. Thanks mate, you are awesome.
Superb absolutely superb !

This wasn't the last song played. 'The Rocker', 'Hard Drivin' Man', and 'Rock 'N' Roll with You' were played after this song.
Also, it must of been a different concert you attended because this was before Robertson and Gorham were even in Thin Lizzy.

TheGUITARidiot 3 years ago
Right, that was what I was getting at. Obviously Moore had been playing that lick for sometime prior to 'Black Rose'.
blacksabfan 3 years ago
@blacksabfan The song Black Rose is based around a medley of Irish standards, most of which Gary was playing even as a teenager.
chosenfool 1 year ago
yes that jig that Gary plays was used later
in Black Rose super song!!!!!

This is from the CD 'Gary´s Gig'. Bristol 1974-04-14. And obviously Gary already had written parts of the solo.
aheleniu 3 years ago
do you know where i could hold of that CD or where to download it from?
This is unbelievable stuff
Cheers!
PS. Blacksabfan you are the best (after Lizzy of course :) Thanks for all the great uploaded stuff-
