Ozzy has the ability to spot talent. He has the gift for choosing the right band and musicians. He's never been what I'd call a great singer, but he knows what works and what doesn't. He wormed his way into singing with Sabbath because he knew that Tony and the boys were on to something. Then as a solo artist he chose Daisley and Rhodes and Jake and Zakk and Tommy and Robert ... The guy was never without a lineup of great supporting artists.
Seems to me like Ozzy would like to believe he and Randy wrote the first two albums, when infact Ozzy wrote stuff all of the lyrics, and the musicians wrote the music. Without those awesome songs and Randy Rhoads it's highly likely Ozzy would have disappeared into a bottle and never got out.

@ozzyrrv420 Randy was a great talent but it was the 3 of them that created the magic. Don Airey said that Bob whipped Randy into shape. Randy was young and not as experienced as Bob and Lee. Quiet Riot had not gone anywhere so it wasn't just the talent of Randy. Ozzy was broke, he did not pay for anything. He had a crap record deal. He was also drunk all the time while the other 3 were writing and working the tunes out. It was a combination of things that made it work. Enter Sharon..... BOOM

@ozzyrrv420 Sharon is behind all the lies for sure. They released Blizzard and then toured with no problems. Look up the live Blizzard band stuff here on youtube. They are the best live versions of the songs. Randy tears the hell out of the crazy train intro. He had a fire with that band. Then when Diary was recorded Sharon got into the picture and it got nasty as I mentioned earlier. I am a huge Randy fan too. Diary left a huge impression on me when I was a kid. My favorite album of all time.

The name of the band was "Blizzard Of Ozz", not until the release did the name OZZY OSBOURNE take centre stage on the art work, and it pissed off the rest of the band including Randy because they were not even asked about the change. You need to talk to the people that were there and can tell you what happened.

Bob is right in saying that when they re-did the first two LPs over re-moving his and Lee Kerslake's work it was like a slap in the face to Randy cause they were all together with Ozzy on those LPs and if it wasn't for Randy,Bob and Lee he wouldn't be where he is today. Its a shame that sort of stuff happens in the music world. If anyone who wants to know what really went on read Garry-Sharpe Young's book "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: The Battle for Black Sabbath".

Sharon Osbourne is an evil money grabbing bitch. The sheer vindictivness of messing with the early Ozzy albums has her smell all over it. I don't think Ozzy would think of that. It must have been great to work with a singer who didnt even know where he was at any time, :( other than he knew he was going out with the daughter of the Jet Records boss. So much tallent was drawn to this outfit but it was guzzled up by nonsence. Lee Kerslake, Bob Daisley, Randy, Rudy and Geezer, I salute you!! Dont get me wrong, I loved Ozzys so called solo stuff, but the bands made him look good, especialy when he was wearing piss stained trousers.
A similar thing happened to Trevor Bolder of Spiders From Mars when David Bowie didn't pay them after one of his best tours ever in Bowie history. Bowie told Trevor at the end of the tour that "he was not professional enough" and did not pay him! lee finally settled out of court with Ozzy in 2001.
If everybody was so buddy buddy with Randy Rhodes and he was tight with Lee & Bob then why didn't they stand their ground. The music and the tunes were good enough to give them leverage why did things go down the way they did with Lee being kicked out and Bob quitting

Bob was the band leader and master mind behind it all. He was the REAL genious behind Ozzy. Bob reeled in Randy and made it all make sense. Ozzy didn't do anything but be the drunken madman behind the microphone. It has been known in music circles for years who wrote all the material. The masses are now hearing the truth for the first time.
Randy was a descent raw talent but he was not "godlike". You can hear the difference in his approach between the oz albums and the quiet riot albums. There was not much time passed between blizzard and the last qr album so that says to me that direction was key to the oz albums. Daisley was the man that directed them

You miss my point, Daisley & Kerslake both insisted to be paid per diem, which at the time frustrated Ozzy & Sharon because they didnt really have the cash to spare. Most fans dont realize it but Ozzy traveled in those days in a Winnebago. Now that is not exactly traveling in style, being a so called rock star an all?
Thing is Bob & Kerslake didn't have the faith that those albums with Ozzy were going to be so successful, and now that they are 29 years after the fact they wanted in.

@bigjimgtr Ozzy has one of the most unique voices I have ever heard. It will never be replaced. I don't call his voice talentless. Many singers do not write their own material. Ozzy's knack is singing and performing. He does both exceptionally, IMHO.
@brightbite Ozzy uses auto tunes, is often rated the worst singer ever, has no range, sings with auto tunes live these days, and reads his lyrics off a teleprompter (he did this when I saw him in 2006!).
He didn't write much of the music. All he made was the "vocal harmonies." The same goes with his career in Black Sabbath (Geezer Butler, Black Sabbath's bassist, wrote nearly all the lyrics).
@faceurhell You are entitled to your opinion. I'm entitled to mine. I'd go see Ozzy if he were singing nursery rhymes out of a book in a coffee house. I don't care about his ratings. He has damaged his body, which could account for some damage done to his voice, i.e. lack of range live, etc. There is a reason why people still pay to see him. It's called talent. But I give hats off to Bod, and all who have helped him out with their tremendous talents, too.

I find it very interesting that Ozzy kept calling Bob back after they fired him. It's because Bob is a lyrical genius and excellent songwriter. You can tell Bob's lyrics on the albums after Blizzard and Diary so to say Ozzy and Randy wrote the lyrics on Blizzard and Diary is a stretch. Ozzy said he wrote Suicide Solution about Bon Scott, Bon Scott did not commit suicide. While the other three members were creating magic, Ozzy was a drunken fool.
Ozzys been using the old hits to make a fortune. Bob instead just sues for part of Ozzys money. Every year Ozzys tours SELLOUT. Bob as im aware hasnt done a real tour for 25 years. Bob says he wants part of the money when one of those old albums is sold. With decades of relentless touring Ozzy has been promoting and SELLING millions of the old albums. Interestingly enough, many transcripts from interviews with Randy Rhoads dont comply with Bobs version of events, they do however comply very closesly to the way in which Ozzy has always solidly described.

Ozzy always said that Geezer wrote most of the lyrics in Sabbath, so why would he lie about his Solo stuff?
The new versions of the albums are clearer, it's easier to hear what Randy's playing, and the songs also don't fade out as soon, so you get extra Lead from randy never heard before. Also, Trujillo & Bordin are much better musicians than Daisley & Kerslake, and a lot of the sloppy mistakes that they made have been cleaned up & fixed.
Bob doesn't mention that one of his demends about the album included his name on the front cover as big as Ozzy's.
Interviews with Randy Rhoads state that Daisley & Kerslake were so mean to him he actually told Ozzy that he would quit the band unless they were fired.
The sleeve of Diary doesn't say that Aldrige & Sarzo play on the album, just that they're in the band. Daisley & Kerslake are credited on every song that they helpd write.
Because Ozzy kept hiring him back to either play or write for the albums. Bob got payed up front. And just because you go to court doesn't mean justice is served. Bob was also involved with Bark At The Moon, Ultimate Sin, No Rest For The Wicked and No More Tears. It says on BATM that all songs written by Ozzy, you gotta be kidding me. That is deceiving at best. Remember Phil Soussan? Ozzy screwed him too. He wrote Shot in the dark. Ozzy discontinued the CD to not pay royalties to him.

Writing credits is bobs second concern after money, obviously. bob has always wanted credits to be changed on previous albums because he says he is the "soul writer", but the credits dont reflect that, hence hes been screwed on every album from Blizzard to No rest for the wicked,(even though there is other people who ozzy has written with on all those albums even though bob claims he wrote ALL the lyrics)

He plays on a 1992 demo of "See You On The Other Side" and I think he sounded pretty damn solid on it, despite the Kenny G-like saxophone crap and the annoying background singers on it, which thankfully didn't make it on the "Ozzmosis" version.
@uofm97 Well, there is a difference between being good enough and being confident. Recording in the studio and playing live are two entirely different things. If I recall correctly I remember reading somewhere that when they went to record the bass for NMT they were saying... What would Bob do here? how would Bob play this? So they said screw it, just get Bob. I don't know if was originally written this way but Mamma has a fretless on it. Bob can play a mean fretless, just look at YND from BATM

ALL of sabbath were a mess at that stage, none of them could produce worth while material, yet sabbath stil went on to produce H&H and Mob Rules and Ozzy, his albums. Sabbath were just a smashed as ozzy. And ozzy wrote those tunes with CO-WRITERS randy and bob.

I think Bob Daisley made a great point. I also think Ozzy is a dick for doing that to the CD just just got Diary of a Madman the other day and the bass tracks are louder than the guitar tracks.
Yeah! I grew up on those two records like a daily vitamin! There never was or will be a line up like that! I would play Diary over and over and over agin so much it is in my soul! Here is another bit of info..... that isn't Tommy Aldridge on Bark at the Moon, its Carmine Appice. His name is nowhere on the album. It also credits Ozzy as writing all the music. He said in many interviews that he knows nothing about music. It kills me! Been a fan for 25 years!
@uofm97 It is fact, I read it in many magazines. That is why he is in the video for bark at the moon. They said he was too big of a name, so they kicked him out. There were people holding up signs for Carmine. Then they got Tommy back in time for the photo shoot and the tour.

Your right! As a semi-professional musician, I can attest; there is no integrity or loyalty in the music business. Been an Ozzy fan since first Black Sabbath album, but he has hit an all time low, with the help of his pitbull, Sharon. On a human level, it should not be about the money (can't imagine he's hurting for the bucks), but what is right by the contributions of these great musicians. Unfortunately, greed has replaced that.
@qklsjdv I found out recently that Ozzy settled the lawsuit with Bob and Lee that resulted in the re-recordings of these albums and that the original bass and drums are back on the albums, so look for the 2010 remasters 'cuz I will! :)
Bob and Lee defintley got screwed on the diary album, there only credited by a tiny notation on the album, I mean holy shit they put tommy aldridge and rudy sarzo in the cover??? There are also rumours that when Randy Rhoads died Sharon tried to change his contract and Mrs. Rhoads got a lawyer to sue them, so I do not know who or what to beleive at this point. Max Norman the producer of those 2 albums also agree's with Bob, so I beleive there may be some truth here.
Blizzard and Diary, in my humble opinion two excellent albums brought to us by a great band - Ozzy, Randy, Bob and Lee. It's a shame this band was split apart and then the whole death of Randy thing. It would've been sweet to hear the next 10 songs those four guys would've come up with. They had a great chemistry that can never be repeated.

As stated in Guitar player mag. Randy Rhoads didn't want to play with Daisley or Kerslake in the states "Old Blokes" I believed he called them. He had played with Sarzo(Quiet Riot), and always wanted to play with Aldridge, but Aldridge was not interested in starting a band. After the ball was rolling Aldridge was interested. Rhoads had a play in both Daisleys and Kerslakes demise.

Quiet Riot had not gone anywhere so it wasn't just the talent of Randy. Ozzy was broke, he did not pay for anything. He had a crap record deal. They are the best live versions of the songs. Randy tears the hell out of the crazy train intro. He had a fire with that band. Then when Diary was recorded Sharon got into the picture and it got nasty as I mentioned earlier. I am a huge Randy fan too. Diary left a huge impression on me when I was a kid. My favorite album of all time.

The name of the band was "Blizzard Of Ozz", not until the release did the name OZZY OSBOURNE take centre stage on the art work, and it pissed off the rest of the band including Randy because they were not even asked about the change. You need to talk to the people that were there and can tell you what happened.

Bob is right in saying that when they re-did the first two LPs over re-moving his and Lee Kerslake's work it was like a slap in the face to Randy cause they were all together with Ozzy on those LPs and if it wasn't for Randy,Bob and Lee he wouldn't be where he is today. Its a shame that sort of stuff happens in the music world. If anyone who wants to know what really went on read Garry-Sharpe Young's book "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath: The Battle for Black Sabbath".

Sharon Osbourne is an evil money grabbing bitch. The sheer vindictivness of messing with the early Ozzy albums has her smell all over it. I don't think Ozzy would think of that. Anyway, the real fans know the real magic was created because of Randy Rhoads, Lee Kerslake, and Bob Daisley. End of story!

It must have been great to work with a singer who didnt even know where he was at any time, :( other than he knew he was going out with the daughter of the Jet Records boss. So much tallent was drawn to this outfit but it was guzzled up by nonsence. Lee Kerslake, Bob Daisley, Randy, Rudy and Geezer, I salute you!! Dont get me wrong, I loved Ozzys so called solo stuff, but the bands made him look good, especialy when he was wearing piss stained trousers.

A similar thing happened to Trevor Bolder of Spiders From Mars when David Bowie didn't pay them after one of his best tours ever in Bowie history. Bowie told Trevor at the end of the tour that "he was not professional enough" and did not pay him! lee finally settled out of court with Ozzy in 2001.

You miss my point, Daisley & Kerslake both insisted to be paid per diem, which at the time frustrated Ozzy & Sharon because they didnt really have the cash to spare. Most fans dont realize it but Ozzy traveled in those days in a Winnebago. Now that is not exactly traveling in style, being a so called rock star an all?
Thing is Bob & Kerslake didn't have the faith that those albums with Ozzy were going to be so successful, and now that they are 29 years after the fact they wanted in.

@brightbite Ozzy uses auto tunes, is often rated the worst singer ever, has no range, sings with auto tunes live these days, and reads his lyrics off a teleprompter (he did this when I saw him in 2006!).
He didn't write much of the music. All he made was the "vocal harmonies." The same goes with his career in Black Sabbath (Geezer Butler, Black Sabbath's bassist, wrote nearly all the lyrics).

I find it very interesting that Ozzy kept calling Bob back after they fired him. It's because Bob is a lyrical genius and excellent songwriter. You can tell Bob's lyrics on the albums after Blizzard and Diary so to say Ozzy and Randy wrote the lyrics on Blizzard and Diary is a stretch. Ozzy said he wrote Suicide Solution about Bon Scott, Bon Scott did not commit suicide. While the other three members were creating magic, Ozzy was a drunken fool.

Ozzy always said that Geezer wrote most of the lyrics in Sabbath, so why would he lie about his Solo stuff?
The new versions of the albums are clearer, it's easier to hear what Randy's playing, and the songs also don't fade out as soon, so you get extra Lead from randy never heard before. Also, Trujillo & Bordin are much better musicians than Daisley & Kerslake, and a lot of the sloppy mistakes that they made have been cleaned up & fixed.

Bob doesn't mention that one of his demends about the album included his name on the front cover as big as Ozzy's.
Interviews with Randy Rhoads state that Daisley & Kerslake were so mean to him he actually told Ozzy that he would quit the band unless they were fired.
The sleeve of Diary doesn't say that Aldrige & Sarzo play on the album, just that they're in the band. Daisley & Kerslake are credited on every song that they helpd write.

Because Ozzy kept hiring him back to either play or write for the albums. Bob got payed up front. And just because you go to court doesn't mean justice is served. Bob was also involved with Bark At The Moon, Ultimate Sin, No Rest For The Wicked and No More Tears. It says on BATM that all songs written by Ozzy, you gotta be kidding me. That is deceiving at best. Remember Phil Soussan? Ozzy screwed him too. He wrote Shot in the dark. Ozzy discontinued the CD to not pay royalties to him.

Writing credits is bobs second concern after money, obviously. bob has always wanted credits to be changed on previous albums because he says he is the "soul writer", but the credits dont reflect that, hence hes been screwed on every album from Blizzard to No rest for the wicked,(even though there is other people who ozzy has written with on all those albums even though bob claims he wrote ALL the lyrics)

@JonHawaii2003 That whole Inez thing strikes me as odd. If he wasn't "good enough" to record NMT, why retain him for the following tour? He plays on a 1992 demo of "See You On The Other Side" and I think he sounded pretty damn solid on it, despite the Kenny G-like saxophone crap and the annoying background singers on it, which thankfully didn't make it on the "Ozzmosis" version.

If I recall correctly I remember reading somewhere that when they went to record the bass for NMT they were saying... What would Bob do here? how would Bob play this? So they said screw it, just get Bob. I don't know if was originally written this way but Mamma has a fretless on it. Bob can play a mean fretless, just look at YND from BATM

ALL of sabbath were a mess at that stage, none of them could produce worth while material, yet sabbath stil went on to produce H&H and Mob Rules and Ozzy, his albums. Sabbath were just a smashed as ozzy. And ozzy wrote those tunes with CO-WRITERS randy and bob.
Wake up an find out the real facts, dont be a spoon fed fool to the first person who gives you a different story or start thinking up better theories that you can try voicing as facts.

Yeah! I grew up on those two records like a daily vitamin! There never was or will be a line up like that! I would play Diary over and over and over agin so much it is in my soul! Here is another bit of info..... that isn't Tommy Aldridge on Bark at the Moon, its Carmine Appice. His name is nowhere on the album. It also credits Ozzy as writing all the music. He said in many interviews that he knows nothing about music. It kills me! Been a fan for 25 years!

@uofm97 It is fact, I read it in many magazines. That is why he is in the video for bark at the moon. They said he was too big of a name, so they kicked him out. There were people holding up signs for Carmine. Then they got Tommy back in time for the photo shoot and the tour.

Your right! As a semi-professional musician, I can attest; there is no integrity or loyalty in the music business. Been an Ozzy fan since first Black Sabbath album, but he has hit an all time low, with the help of his pitbull, Sharon. On a human level, it should not be about the money (can't imagine he's hurting for the bucks), but what is right by the contributions of these great musicians. Unfortunately, greed has replaced that.

@qklsjdv I found out recently that Ozzy settled the lawsuit with Bob and Lee that resulted in the re-recordings of these albums and that the original bass and drums are back on the albums, so look for the 2010 remasters 'cuz I will! :)

Bob and Lee defintley got screwed on the diary album, there only credited by a tiny notation on the album, I mean holy shit they put tommy aldridge and rudy sarzo in the cover??? There are also rumours that when Randy Rhoads died Sharon tried to change his contract and Mrs. Rhoads got a lawyer to sue them, so I do not know who or what to beleive at this point. Max Norman the producer of those 2 albums also agree's with Bob, so I beleive there may be some truth here.

Blizzard and Diary, in my humble opinion two excellent albums brought to us by a great band - Ozzy, Randy, Bob and Lee. It's a shame this band was split apart and then the whole death of Randy thing. It would've been sweet to hear the next 10 songs those four guys would've come up with. They had a great chemistry that can never be repeated.

As stated in Guitar player mag. Randy Rhoads didn't want to play with Daisley or Kerslake in the states "Old Blokes" I believed he called them. He had played with Sarzo(Quiet Riot), and always wanted to play with Aldridge, but Aldridge was not interested in starting a band. After the ball was rolling Aldridge was interested. Rhoads had a play in both Daisleys and Kerslakes demise.

All I know is the decision to re-track the bass and drums was a slap to Randy, Bob, and Lee's songs that they wrote, rehersed and recorded together and the musical connection that those 3 guys had at the time is now doomed to be forgotten for the people who only hear the reissue versions.
