In greece I have seen pews even in monasteries. The have have lost their minds. They really have lost Holy Orthdoxy. Orthodoxy is not a nice folklore or cultural thing - it is the truth of God.

Orthodoxy always was ascetic - go and look some old photos of greece. U will see: NO PEWS, women with covered hair, etc....

The greek orthodox church is full of innovation and modernism!

I just attended my first liturgy of presanctified gifts. I thought it was beautiful. my church doesn't have pews...except on the sides for those who may be elderly or disabled and may need to sit down at certain points of the service.

@choosing2lookeast: Yeah - exactly that is the traditional form. I mean there have been some STASIDIA on the sides - but that is not how it is today.

The problem with pews is that they destroy the space in the Temple and it makes it impossible to make prostrations. There are special times during the servies when we have to make prostrations (beside sundays and great feastdays). In russia people unceasingly make prostrations during the services.

An orthodox church with PEWS what a shame! Shame on those priests who accept such perversion of Orthodox Tradition.

@adamantis4657 .....Such is life unfortunately, if you were more learned in specific situations you would know that these priests did not install such pews. These are however not an orthodox tradition but slowly and surely they will be removed, once our congregations learn not to use them. However your perverted mouth has again failed you, it is better at times to keep silent and not shame yourself.

Pews never were allowed to Holy Orthodoxy - NEVER. It is an innovation and to copy th heterodox. Orthodox christians stood during prayer or protstrated - since 2000 years.

I have seen greek churches = people sitting on chairs during Holy Litury. No one prostrates - of course because with pews u are not able to make prostrations. Pews are blasphemous.

Prayer without prostrations is cold! ST. Ephraim

I remember when I was a United Methodist (now I am a Lutheran, since 2001) when the pastor wore a black-colored alb with a purple stole for Advent and Lent, which signified the penitential periods before Christmas and Easter respectively.
