Ok, so this has probably been said before but when we see the flashbacks for mr Eko in a different episode all the images are featured in it, the monster, i think must be peoples fears/ regrets coming back to haunt them. Everyone is scared of the monster because it hits a nerve with everyone of them for different reasons
