I'm just starting at the table top game, and i'm thinking about getting necrons, do you guys think i should or shouldn't, they too complicated for a beginner, or because their codex is about to get redone?
@GearShotgun necrons are actually one of the simplest armies! the one complaint i have with them being my 2nd army is that there's no options. you get everything you need buying a battleforce or just warriors. but you'll want more. there's also no range or movement to them and you'll likely get out shot against say eldar or tau but having an army charge at you is great! so basically my final thoughts are they're great for a beginner, you might get bored?
@CerealMunchkin sounds good, my only real complaint is that this Phase out rule makes them extremely broken, if it comes down to the wire where you've both only got two units left and its all in, you might lose two or 5 warriors and instantly lose because you dropped below a quarter of your army, i hope they fix that in the new codex
Necrons do not suck by nature, Use them properly and you'll never have to worry about phase out if you use a regenerator and if you can figure out how to use a warscythe wielding destroyer lord would screw heavy tanks up, but what's best? Nightbringer and Deceiver are so nuts that they will spank anything that tries to stand in their way. I can't wait for the Void Dragon's rules to come out.
@OmgL0STCAUSE, Pariahs Phasesense Warscythe IGNORE armor & invulnerable Saves and Instant Kill anything they fight against, regardless of toughness and wargear. They have 2 attacks on the charge, They get ONE attack for a reason, it's called insane overpowering. Could you imagine the point cost of this model if it was more than that? The nightbringer is insane too. the Unstoppable Ghazg'kull, Unkillable Commisar Yarrick are all killed without chance for revival due to their special rules.
@ZodiacStationAlpha basically, if your down to a quarter of your army. the rest of your forces leave the table and your opponent get's an automatic win.
@shizlnit It really depends on who you are fighting, wraiths can be nice against the smaller squads, but against hordes, they are useless, can't get enough attacks out. Destroyers and lots of warriors are a must, and I suggest getting 5 destroyers instead of 4. The immortal's picture on GW must have decieved you, they only come with one metal immortal, they are pretty nice though, tough with an assualt 2 weapon. Anywho, it is a pretty good start.
Pariahs kinda suck. Only 1 s4 attack? Really? No wbb. 1wound. A shooting attack which is nothing to write home about. Spend the points on destroyers, at least they can do damage at a range ( btw I don't play crons I play nids, my main oppponent is crons)
I swear to god, some of the US army generals watch this to get tips.
Anyway, you've drawn me in to starting a Necron army with all this Necron stuff (curse you, addictive Star Gods!) and I have a 1750 list planned out already and I'm starting to buy stuff. Would it be ok if I sent you my list?
Also, what would you do if your opponent put something like a Land Raider to deal with the Destroyers, instead of splitting his army? Unlike GW's boasts, Destroyers are really easy to kill w/ shooting.
I swear to god, some of the US army generals watch this to get tips.......
Anyway, you've drawn me in to starting a Necron army with all this Necron stuff (curse you, addictive Star Gods!) and I have a 1750 list planned out already and I'm starting to buy stuff. Would it be ok if I sent you my list?
Out of curiosity, why not include a pariah unit in your army? It seems like the warscythe would be useful for close combat and armor should your army be forced into the situation.
@AznSwordGod they cost 60 something points per model ( i think its 64) and get no wbb and have 6 inch movement you only get one squad (max 10) if you use them for a counter charge unit they are good but they cost alot
Alot of people posting on how necrons aren't hard, yet I've seen some stupid builds. If you ONLY take one squad of something (say Heavy D's or D's and wraiths etc...) you're going to lose that squad in one turn of firing and then no WBB b/c of the lack of a similar unit. Those of you saying "hey Tombspider" read the rules; you need a similar unit on the table still. Necrons are VERY hard to play in 5th... they're nearly impossible to win with. Kudos to you fritz for trying to make them viable.
@Beammeup87 Very hard to play? Hardly. You just avoid using too meny warriors in order to prevent you phasing out. Also with the right tatics necrons are the strongest force on the table-top... Warriors can heavily hinder enermy armour (6 is glencing hit no matter the armour). Warscythe can destory enermy armour no problem.
@red244 Flayed Ones can cause hell on infantry, Tomb Spyders can take heavy punishment and spawn Scarbs helping to keep you from phasing out. Monaliths are weapons of mass destruction Get one within range of any tanks or anything and they will reak havoc. Also, this alows you to pull your warriors from close combat or deploy your reserves right into the fight.
@red244 Taking all that into consideration they are a very simple army to use when you learn how to use them. It's not like Space Marines where you have 4+ pieces of possible wargear per squad then you have to be concerned as to what happens if you choose the wrong wargear your basically then doomed to win.
I also have a few questions if you wouldnt mind answering them :)
If I deepstrike the monolith, can I teleport and move a unit through it on the turn it arrives... for example, deepstrike monolith, teleport wraiths, move and assault them?
Also, Can I fire the weapons on the monolith the turn it arrives from deepstrike?
This is not a viable tactic, and neither is any other video regarding seize ground a good tactic... Because you must decide on the LOCATION and the NUMBER of objectives BEFORE the first player (who goes first) deploys his army.
Hence you may never know if your going to be by your objectives
necrons are a hard army to master but they can be unstopable is u know how to play it but i need you to check this army list ive got : 40 warrioirs 2 monoliths 3 wraith 5 pariahs deciver necron destroyer lord 3 destroyers necron lord 10 scarab swarms and 2 tomb spiders
necron is not a hard army to master..... You don't really need a lot of tactics... Even a warrior can destroy a tank... Plus they can make revive their own guys thanks to the we'll be back rule
And you have Initiative 2 which means you get sweeped in cc most of the times and you auto lose if you have only 25%. What makes necrons hard to master is prefenting this. They also have an older codex which means compaired to the new codexes they are very lacking. Gauss is also no longer an reliable anti-armor option since the new edition.
Wait! I wouldn't get many Necrons just yet. GW's coming out with a new codex by late December or early January. The necrons might look different, and there's no point in jumping on models which might become outdated.
To answer your question though, Necrons are a great starting army(one of the best), you may just want to wait a bit before you buy more than about 500-750 points.
if the other guy is gonna kill his destroyers then he can jet boost them over to his main army removing anything not incedably fast moving for at least 2 turns which at turn 4 is a game winner
also he never said what he does in KP i find that my tactics change by the mission
you cant place objectives yourself outherwise your cheating and when u said about your warriors cant get to the objectives just use veil of darkness and get a monolith and put your warriors in reserve and deep strike the monolith at an objective
hey iv e got 30 necron warriors 3 destrotyers, nightbriger,monolith,7scarab swarms and necron destroyer lord with the resurection orb and veil of darkness what should i get next
I played a game using necrons against chaos space marines today and using nothing but the fire from my warriors and 3 destroyers i brought the army to its knees before my m8's khorne units could get into close combat.
it's not that difficult... take necron warriors, average a sqad of say 15, you roll maybe three sixes which are all glancing hits no matter what. and you probably have a few of these squads... and that's the weakest guns the crons got. beware heavy destroyers.
What if the other player with three objectives decides to just hold them frits, The lord would be able to get there but the destroyers are to fragile and the warriors to slow. Best case scenario, draw?
True, this is a hard mission for necrons even with fewer objectives. If my opp. did this I would hold back with the destroyers and use them to contest with the scrabs and lord(s), marching warriors as a distraction in the mean time.
@NCwarhammer Destroyers are not fragile. Try making 10 saves with an armour of 3 and then a We'll be back of 4. If you failed just 1, your rolls are awful.
Hi! I recently bought Assault on black reach, and i was wondering, how many tyranids would be around 500 points? also, how many necrons? im starting a gaming club, so i need more than orks and SM's because 4 people are in it.
if you get the tyranid battleforce it will roughly set you up to about 500-750 points but make sure you buy the codex before you start putting models togethor so you can figure out what type of army you want.
I have always liked the fluff and background stuff of the Necrons and I love the idea of immortal robots. Problem is that they 100% suck, or are difficult to compete with, in 5th right now. Roll that into one and that is why I'm going to be rolling with Necrons for a bit. Lots of guys I play complain about my Eldar Seer council and vyper as beardy rather then seeing it is the tactics behind them. I'm also tired of dudes rolling up with their min-maxed power lists thinking "they" are winning the.
Somehow lost part II to my rant... Anyway by playing Necrons, besides having fun with the army, if you loose to my 'crons it is b/c of superior tactics and gameplay, not b/c of a power build. That and I also want to share with you guys that it is pure tactics that win, not really the "army". Play the army you want and win with tactics!
is there a rule with crons where u get to pick your deployement zones because normally you choose zones after you have set up the markers you wont get that sweet set up you show.
no, but I would deploy my objectives like this anyway and a "smart" player will give me the side with more objectives hoping I try to hold them so they can hit me in the assault and phase me out. I also set it up this way for "best case" scenario, but the tactics adapt the same way- you will have control over where you at least place your objecties- VOD and destroyer contesting are for where your opponent places theirs.
The army as a whole reminds me of a standard warhammer fantasy army. Big blocks of troops and then fast movers on the flanks. I like the ode to the 1700s as well lol.
i hate how people say the gausee weapon sucks now. It only glances yes, but you can totally trash a vehicle with 10 glancing hits. Even if you dont destroy weapons you are still gonna prob shake the crap out of, taking it out of the game for a turn or two. Not to mention you are gonna be blowing up weapons.

this is true in a way yes, but then you could say that about any weapon in 40k. Really its all about the dice gods anyways. But i wouldnt say its 100% not reliable, id say.....95% :p
