  • great harmony!

  • I wish I lived in the 60s. Women were so classy back then.

  • Wonderful, thanks so much for posting the vid. It's all about real love and joy in sharing music. Bruce Thomson in New Zealand.

  • ♥ they are so beautiful :) Singing Biffles for life! ♥

  • BRILLIANTT!!!! such GREAT harmony between them! Awesome talented women(:

  • I just love these ladies! Mamma Cass would be 70 or so this year if she had lived.

  • Such a double-edged sword...it reminds you how awesome music can be, but also reminds you how far we've fallen.

  • Make Your Own Kind Of Music was the gay man's anthem back then. I'm 27 and I knew what that song meant for me personally.

  • I really respect how Julie sang all the harmony and let mama cass do the main parts.. awesome duet.

  • Is there any chance they will release the show on DVD? If the powers at be on TV networks don't want to broadcast shows of that caliber, at least we should have been given the option to watch them privately.

  • two of the most beautiful voices ever!

  • Back for another listen...still perfect.

@jessperr "Today's youth" would include my niece who loves Julie Andrews...

I suppose we should allow today's industry to "make its own kind of music" too (not that I don't share your musical preference, in this case). If one looks past the flashy attention grabbers, it is possible to find a few good singers and singer-songwriters amongst today's performers as well.

  • This is amazing.

  • A reminder of what actual MUSIC really is! Today's music just doesn't capture the kind of melodic, rythmic and lyrical perfection of yesteryear! Today's youth has no idea what real music is! What a shame. These two ladies and the composers and lyricist of their day have more musical talent in their little fingers than the entire (so called) music industry has, today.

  • This. Is. Beautiful!

  • What a wonderful video! A real shame there is a bunch of static on it: too bad that couldn't be removed.

  • i just died a little inside. they're just fantastic.

  • This made me happy :)

  • Wonderful! great arrangement!

  • Incredable talent!

I loved The Julie Andrews Hours. I must have been 10 or 11 years old and I remember sitting in front of the TV crying because I was always deeply moved. It was a wonderful variety show, ahead of it's time, with brilliant musical productions showcasing the best talent in it's day. Bravo Julie!

    Thank you for posting.

  • this is awesome!

  • This is unbelievably good, isn't it?. Make sure you catch the other Julie+Cass video (Simon + Garfunkel songs). Thank you so much DrewArrola for posting these. Look at the pleasure you've brought to us all! )

  • Agree, i wish there was stuff like that on TV these days. You can forget all the music shows and actually throw the TV out of the window...

This is so pure and with so much heart.

  • Juie and Cass are great together. It is too bad that Cass is dead They might have been able to make a CD. I luve them both. they are great!!!!!! : ) : )

  • this video made me feel in my chilhood again, thanks so much for posting it!!!!

two great artists!!! i salute you mama cass and julie Andrews!!!!!

  • I got goosebumps watching this!

  • I'd have like to have seen a fitted dress on Cass Elliot like the one on Julie Andrews.

  • Two of the best at what they do! Priceless, inspiring...makes me miss my childhood when specials really were...special!

  • Une vidéo magnifique ! Deux chanteuse d'exceptions ! Deux voix uniques ! De merveilleuses chansons ! Une époque formidable ! Pourquoi les chansons actuelles n'égalent elles pas celles ci ?

  • Beautiful...wish the video was better

  • I love the part from 0:46-0:50. The duet is better than that of Mariah-Whitney.

  • i was born in '83, and grew up listening to these ladies. My parents raised one kid born in the 60's, one in the late 70's and two in the early 80's. Music was ALWAY on in our house, and it was mostly THIS stuff! I didn't know who Madonna was until mid 90's.

  • I love their harmonies. The most beautiful soprano/ alto duet I have ever heard!

  • Oh their voices sound so lovely together. Wish they had recorded stuff together.

  • Does anyone else feel that they were born at the wrong decade? I really wish I was born in late 40s so I could live through the 50s, 60s and 70s. I hate my generation.

  • @JIKUereno I say that all the time - my parents were born in 1946 and I in 1985. I see all the photos and records. I can honestly say I think things were much more fun then than now.

  • @JIKUereno

    Me too!

  • @JIKUereno yes i enjoyed being born in the 90s but i would like to have lived through the 60s 70s and 80s

  • Why because people do not want talent and melody it's got to shake the nervous system to the threshold of nurual meltdown and epileptic spasms to be considered good. If it is not screaming to the point of tone deafness and ear drum rupture it is not consider relevant. And if there is a unique melody or rhythm that is considered retro back sliding into yesteryear sound.

  • One word: Class

  • <333333333333333333333333

  • Wonderful posting! Thanks very much for this treasure! They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Best Female singers, Momma Cass, Julie Andrews, and Karen Carpenter, remember people singing talent comes in ALL shapes and sizes, not just one!

  • Loved Mama Cass. She had one of those distinctive voices like Karen Carpenter's.

  • Cass had a one and only voice. I miss her and all she should have completed beyond the time of her death.

  • they are so terrific!

  • A seemingly odd pairing but they sound great together.

  • is there a high quality recording of this somewhere?

  • This was so great I just had to Favorite it :-)

  • Cass was simply amazing!

  • They clearly loved eachother very much. So wonderful. x

  • they have terrific voices! But what a strange video! Very strange.

  • Just Beautiful - I Love This !!! ... :)

  • OMG! What a brilliant duet!!!

  • I LOVE this!!!

  • I so badly wish for music like this again......I can't thank you enough for sharing this with us.

  • thanks for posting rip mama cass you had a good voice and of course no one tops Julie

  • a very strange pairing, but very good !!

    they are (were) both fantastic!!

  • This was great! I had never seen that before! Both great singers, lovely!! Cass left way too soon, so much talent. Both class acts!!

  • wauww, two wonderful voices! you put it together and it gets Awesome,

    Love them!

  • really great! nice compilation :)

  • Wow, what a total treat to stumble upon this....both great talents.

  • I remember in '74 when Cass passed...gee she and Julie Andrews both had great sounds! Just made to sing together!

  • SIMPLEMENTE MARAVILLOSO!!!!!!!!!

  • they are so different but so beautiful together.

    they are fantastic.

    xxxx

    lola

  • Yay! I had no idea they did this! Wonderful!

  • Well I think everyone's said it all really: absolutely sensational singing from two of the greatest female voices of all time.

Those harmonies would charm the angels down from heaven to see who's gone missing from the celestial choir...

  • Shame about the audio quality but great stuff nevertheless

  • O M G! two of my fav people together!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!

  • Just terrific. Simple as that. Thank you so much for posting it..

  • Wish I could buy this on CD!

  • Yep, I'd buy it, too. Their voices blend so well, and they sing together, not compete. Fabulous music.

  • Why can't we have shows like this today - instead of crap reality shows? I actually remember seeing Julie Andrews' show in the '70's(I was born in 1970)and it amazes me we had INCREDIBLE talent like this on tv for FREE.

Two amazing ladies sounding BRILLIANT together.

  • ... I remember feeling very upset as a 14 year-old when I heard that Mama Cass had died. It's great that all these years later we can watch her marvellous performances on Youtube.

  • I think they were reffering to the fact that she is no longer able to sing due to a botched surgery so in essence her voice is gone and should be talked of in the past sense.

  • She DOES sing, but her range is a bit limited. She did just fine with "Crowning Glory" -- according to the producer, she nailed it in one. You can hear three blips, but only if you listen for them. She sang it live on a TV special, too.

  • Julie Andrews isn't dead you guys! Don't speak of her in the past tense.

  • Julie Andrews is six flavours of awesome.

  • They are both symbols of perfection!

  • they are all clear!!!! wow!!!! how very great!!! thanks for posting!!!!

  • Two very great voices. It's sad that these two voices are lost.

    Julie Andrews are pretty together.

  • I never get sick of watching this...what a duo! Simply magical!

  • pure magic

  • Truly a classic...thanks so much...

  • I forgot how pretty julie andrews was

  • Even with the bad sound WOW

  • Thanks so much for posting this. Two of my very favorite singers and I never knew they had sung together. Such marvelous harmony, and skilled singing, they were just great together and you could tell Cass was just loving it. She was so sweet and lovable, and I loved Julie Andrews too. Wonderful!

  • neat.. two great voices! classic.

  • People that listen to music are the Top Cat ,the Balls. Im a lamb! whos making this vidio ? thanks but no pushing.great voices how lucky can we be. oh oh TBTG

  • I am a guitarist in a heavy metal band. But this stuff is SOOO DAM POWERFUL. It rips you apart! And Mama Cass what a great lady as well as being an outstanding singer, shame I will never get to meet her. You can just tell she just loved singing, I think the combo with Julie Andrews really worked well. Great harmonies, which I will tell you are not easy to do! Magic Just Magic. A little bit of beauty goes a hell of a long way. Peace and love to you all,

  • Could not have said it better.

  • Engineroom, your message is so nice and heartfelt. I often pass guys like you near my NY apt. (there's a recording studio down from me with lots of young rock musicians talking and smoking outside). You dudes look macho outside but have warmth and smarts inside. To know you can appreciate Mama Cass's and Julie Andrews' talent should not surprise me--you know music. You can tell great stuff, from hard rock to pop ballads. Thanks so much for your post. You're a nice guy!

  • all good musicians have soul like this, no matter what genre- the joy shines through

  • OMG they made there own kind of music all right.

    FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • incredible =]

  • thankyou for sharing !

    It's very very beautiful~

  • An amazing pairing of great voices - just magic.

  • Two great singers!!! I love Mama Cass and I think she was the soul of Mamas & Papas... thanks for sharing it. Greetings from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • I don't understand the resistance to the lip-synch. Back when television was a teenager, it had more to do with using the same studio musicians onstage as on the recording was not economically feasible - it had nothing to do with authenticity. Kids today have a problem with it (yet incredibly seem to have no problem with sampling), but back in the day, I was just happy to be able to see someone I wouldn't otherwise be able to. And it's not as if it wasn't their own voices.

  • WOW. This is a treasure.

  • Great thanks for sharing.

  • Wow - their voices are sooo great together!

I'm so glad I found this video... Thank you so so so much for uploading it!!!

  • holy! this is the best ever. :) Thanks for uploading this.

  • D: OMG

    BEST DUO EVER!!!!

    <333

    Sounds just beautiful

  • magical notes for magical voices!!!!!!!!!

  • just perfect!

  • o

    m

    g

    best combo ever!

  • If only I was older in Mama Cass's time. I would have bought every album! Now their so hard to find!

  • thanks, DrewArriola for posting these. I find them remarkable.

  • I also stumbled across this without looking for it and I'm so glad I did. No lip-synching here, this is just 2 gifted singers putting on a great show. They have 2 differnt styles that work well together and it's obvious that they enjoy singing together.

  • Wow, I came by this by accident and it made my day! Two of the most powerful voices came together and harmonized perfectly? How rare . . . it's chilling!

  • Came accross this purely by accident... best thing I did all day.

Two great voices, blending together with perfection.

    Just terrific!

  • "night breezes semm to whisper i love you"My favourite actress sings my favourite song of my favourite singer,...hm the wole universe udes all its powers to make this little drop of heaven!!!

  • I wasn't looking for this- it was just one of the related video options that came up- but this is GREAT and great isn't a word to be used often.

  • Beautiful. Just beautiful.

Harmony, harmony people! Never fails. Its all gone today, so have the beautiful voices :( You shouldn't be able to hear an artist and go "I can do that". They should just blow you the hell away and leave you humbled, stunned and mesmerized by their voice.

  • i love julie and cass together their amazing, Julie said somewhere (cant remember where i heard it though) that she didnt think her voice suited "pop" music and that classical songs suit it better. I do think she sings clasical congs very beautiful but i also think that she sang that song pretty lovely aswell.

the other cas and julie medley is my fav one out of the two but i do love this oe a lot aswell. its a shame that they didnt get to work together more that they did.

  • ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!

  • They are enchanting and listen to those harmonies!

  • they compliment each other perfectly.

  • Where has talent like this gone these days?

    Outstanding.

  • I was astounded by Julie and Cass when teh Julie Andrews show aired in Australia ca 1973 and have often mentioned to others (including Beautiful Thing author Jonathan Harvey) that they were one of the best duets of all time. Thanks for posting these to YouTube.

  • A lesson of singing, surely is! Perfection.

  • My god I LOVE the Mammas and the Pappas and I love Cass Elliot even more. I'm 23 now and I fell in love with her music since I was 16 and I hade no idea that she performed with Julie Andrews. This is amazing!

  • they are great, I love Mama Cass and Julie Andrews and the songs in Make Your Own Kind of Music are fantastic, thanks to the series Lost which is putting them to revival.

  • pure joy!

    great!

    thanks

  • Mama Cass was an Angel to sweet for this cruel world, our love goes to her daughter Vannessa who never knew how loved her mother was

  • what a fabulous duo...two very talented performers...Julie Andrews is great and Cass Elliott greatly missed

  • love this!

  • exelente temaaaaaa!!!!muy bueno

  • Simply utterly splendid.

  • that brought tears to my eyes

  • The two most beautiful voices.

  • Man! It never occurred to me that these two voices would meld so magically together. A great merge of pure vocals from both sides the ocean! I don't think Cass Elliot ever got the Kudos she derserved, she really was an AMAZING vocalist

  • i find this haunting with the messed up tech and iminent doom for cass

  • theyre both landmark artists, and so so perfect together. wat a great clip!! thanks for sharing it with everyone!

  • A perfect timeless gem!

  • This is so amazing! They are perfect together. There is none better than Julie Andrews!

  • Two great vocalists. Julie a true beauty.

  • kudos! its cool we have these clips so younger ppl. can see this great talent.

  • Julie is probably the most beautiful woman of all times... I love her.

  • Totally agree...the most naturally beautiful and telented women ever!

  • It was Denny. Cass was in love with him, and he decided to have sex with Michelle in front of her face

  • nice : )

  • Wow! Wonderful harmonies. I loved that.

  • lost...

  • wat did he exactly say tht pissed her of enough to leave mamas and the papas... i wan tot know!!

  • That was marvellous! Many thanks.

  • This is great, Thank you! You can really tell

the respect for each other and the hard work

  • I am in awe.

  • they are f$%#king amazing.. the harmony is second to none.

  • ya, stupid john with his chinchilla hat. Grrrr...

  • if that piece of shit john philips didnt treat cass like crap the mamas and the papas might have gone on

  • Yeah - he was pretty mean to her.

  • Voices from heaven

  • Impeccable harmony.

  • Totally agree! Couldn't have said it better myself.

  • Two masters! Love Julie and Mama Cass!

  • What bowls me over about this video is that the Mama and Julie have obviously worked so hard on the material, yet it all seems so effortless. They've paid attention to timing and harmony, and are listening closely to each other as they sing - the mark of true music professionals. My level of respect for their voices and songcraft couldn't be higher. And the music is so wonderful. Thank you Julie and Mama, and all the musicians involced in this great video.

  • Cass' dream was to be thought of as one of the greats like Julie Andrews or Judy Garland. She was getting there when death took her away too soon. Cass would be so thrilled to know how much she still means to the music world 33 years later.

  • I saw "Beautiful Things". It is a movie about two teenage boys who form a love/sexual relationship. I think, by definition, that makes it gay-themed.

The songs in this video were all made famous by Cass Elliot during her solo career after The Mamas and The Papas. It is a special treat to hear the perform in duet with the stunning Julie Andrews.

  • If anyone has not seen the "Beautiful Thing" which features the music of the Mommas and Pappas, run and rent it. It IS NOT a gay movie. It is a movie of friendship, struggles, tears, joy, and ultimately finding our way in this complex world. Mama and Julie do an amazing job on this song and it reminds me of the beauty, realism, and joy that "Beautiful Thing" represents...just be you

    MWP

Mama, left us so early and we are not as good as we should have been...

  • Yes, Mama Cass has long left us, yes we are the poorer for that fact, she was a Beautiful person in everyway possible, and how amazing is Julie always, so sad that she will not sing again for us also, These are really valuable recordings, and should be Treasured for all time. Thank-you Beautiful Ladies for the privledge of hearing you both together.. Mary..

  • Stunning. Such a shame that the quality of the recording was so poor. I wonder what condition the master is in?

  • I agree with your comments. This video should be preserved as it is musical history which can never be replaced once it is lost forever.

  • Pity they never recorded together. Their voices really go well together.

  • Goodness! How amazing!

Mama Cass' time to leave this world came before mine was to enter. I really wish that wasn't so. I'm gonna meet her someday, though! She was far too beautiful a woman with far too beautiful a soul not to enter the Kngdom of Heaven!

  • Two losts voices...

almost makes me sad to listen to.

  • This is fabulous! They sound really great together!

  • thank's for this.

  • WOW! They sound beautiful together!

  • What a great combination! Fantastic. Thank you for sharing it.

  • OMG!! These two wonderful voices together!! what a great treat you gave us drew! Thank you :D

  • Mama Cass is nothing less than an amazing diva. I miss her.
