For the past year or so I've spent a few hours a week watching clips of these old shows from the 60's and 70's. Lost In Space, Beverly Hillbillies, Combat, Hogan's Heroes, Dark Shadows, Gunsmoke, Petticoat Junction, All In The Family, Columbo....the list goes on.
And I've come to one conclusion: TODAY'S TELEVISION SUCKS.
I liked the craft that went into it (very well edited and timed), but I'm not crazy about that font. I also think it should have just a bit more color and pop. But nicely made.
I'm always amazed at the editing talent on Youtube. Take that, Hollywood... ;-)
Nice tribute video! I wish they HAD done a fourth season. I guess the series had just run its course. Would also have been nice if Irwin Allen had done movies with the original cast like they did with Star Trek. We'll never get to see that happen :( I always did like this theme tune over the one for seasons 1 & 2.
this looks real ..i know its not because i was a fan of the show and i know all the real opening's but this looks like it could have been a real opening ..very nice work ....you even gave credit to Bob May and Dick Tufeld who played the robot that's something the show didn't do ...very nice job
Close to season 3 this one is obviously better photography and audio.I like 3 better for the countdown.I will never forget watching this show with so much enthusiasm and creativity useing my imagination right after.thanks!!
@ginger1961 Yes, me, too! When I first saw this, I thought it was real & that they may have acttually shot an episode, or more, for season 4 & that this was the real intro. Too bad they cut it after season 3, but, when you think of it, it HAD become more of a monster of the week, thing & most of the show was based around Will, Smith & the robot. To think that they closed off the show with an episode featuring a talking carrot!! Quite silly. But, still, one of my fave shows from that era!!
@brahmin21 Yeah, Judy was the hottie!! Never liked Penny, partly because of her name, then she found the Bloop and named it, Debbie! GEEZ!! Another name I hate!! Recently, I picked up DVD's of the show and actually started to think Penny wasn't really all that bad looking!! She still has marks against her, though, because she reminds me a LOT of someone I used to work with a few years ago who I grew to dis-like quite a bit before she quit.
@RedVynil ....yeah....tell me about it.........Debbie...!!!!!
and penny could understand everything the "bloop" blooped........but it was still the best childrens series going at that time............the good old Jupiter 2..........ah.......memories...!!!!

Ohhh, the pain...the pain of it all...Used to watch this as a kid back in the 60s...loved it then-until that stupid episode about the vegatables...DUMB! So, I went to Star Trek on NBC...Yeah, too bad Allen decided to make Smith a cowardly buffoon. Gary Olman did Smith correctly in the 1998 movie. Third season was okay, but it centered on the triumvirate of Smith, Will and the Robot. The others were just two-dimensional cardboard figures. (I had a BIG crush on Penny).
@59Skott Gene Roddenbury went to CBS(?) to tell them of this new serious adventure show he called Star Trek(he tells a live audiance). The told him they already HAVE a 'sci-fi' show. He asked what it was called. They responed, "Lost in Space"(the live audience EXPLODES with laughter...). Oldman STOLE the movie!! Harris's Mmith was very evil at first. READY to KILL, Smith actaully points a laser pistol at the back of an unsuspecting West's head after the Major suggest they wake up the Robinsons.
JM: You know....I liked the show even when it morphed into "The Dr Smith Show" but I always thought that it would have been better without the Smith character. Again, I LOVED Jonathan Harris' character. Maybe they needed a seperate show with less camp. They should have dropped Smith off, back on Earth at the end of the first season. @TomatoeAssassin I recently got a chance to see the unaired pilot and there was no robot or Dr Smith in it. Kind of have to wonder how the show would have been without those two!
@Tazzman I have the first 8 Columbia House VSR tapes which include the un-aired pilot. Brings new insight to the show concept. Comic book fans should seek out the LIS adaption. Billy Mumy(Will Robinson) wrote many of the stories, which answer MANY questions about WHO was Aelios 14 Umbra, HOW can 1997 tech' create flight tech' fro the Jupitar-2(not to mention the Robot B-9--series, WHAT became of the Jupitar-1(??) & WHAT happens when they finally reach Alpha Century. Lot of backround info, too.
@TomatoeAssassin I heard from a knowledgable source that had the show returned for a forth year, it would have been without Guy Williams...Come to think of it, this scenario pretty much sums up the latter half of year three.
@TomatoeAssassin Agreed. Guy Williams & Lockhart were a great onscrean couple(I also enjoyed most of the flawed but not terrible LIS Movies character recreations. The Robinson marriage in THAT movie seamed realistic to me. And Gary Oldman STOLE the movie as Dr.Smith{"Believe me, Major West...EVIL KNOWS Evil."). As for Williams, He was especially captivating when showing his angry aggressive side when Smith ticked him off. Remember how he suddenly swept gambeling stuff off a table, eyes flaring?
@epilepsyman47 There were no 4th season shows filmed although there were some scripts written. There was going to be a season 4 but CBS wanted to cut the budget and Irwin Allen said no. This opening was just my idea for year 4, using the Jupiter 2 flybys like the Star Trek opening.
Lost In Space was great family entertainment, and Guy Williams & June Lockhart were decent actors. You know I was one of those kids who always thought dthe robot was the real thing I never believed my uncle when he said there was really aman in there.
If there had been a season 4, the suits at CBS would have gotten it right, and billed Jonathan Harris as the star of the show...just my guest...er I mean guess.
I still don't think people get the charm of LIS. It was Alice in Wonderland and not the Swiss Family Robinson in Space. Had LIS been just another adventure show we would have lost out completely on the delicious absurdities that made the show enjoyable. I for one can't stand most of the Star Trek series because they are too serious and too political.
@marcparella Well, You're entiteled to that opinion but Star Trek was DRAMATIC television about a possible future for mankind. Roddenbury was of the opinion that Man could over come our problems(as a Christian, I know better, but thats not what we're talking about specifically...). He often used Trek to address 'present day'(1960's) problems like the Korean war conflict(watch 'A Private Little War'-it involves bigger military powers involved in esculating a smaller community's cival war). U See?
Ahh, if there only WAS a fourth season! One has to wonder if a fourth season would continue the mediocrity of seasons 2 and 3, or would Allen have fired all those script writers and get some fresh ideas for season 4? I guess we'll never know.
@thenewhorizons the assholes at cbs cut the shows budget and allen jumped shipped, he said the budget had been cut to low to keep producing the show the way he wanted, their was supposed to definitely be a season four. thanks assholes at cbs
@StukInBuf I was too young to remember, i didn't start watching the show until it was in reruns at 4pm during the week on i think cbs, this was in the mid 70s
@andyseaview tv shows back then were bought and sold by their time slots, it really wouldn't have mattered if they could have filmed the show for a penny (LOL) someone wanted the time slot and they were going to force Lost in Space and irwin allen out; no mater what it took.
@nebula4001 - by "this season," I expect that you mean season 3, the last, from about 1967, which is also my favorite.
The synth treatment on this page is fine (Sincerely it is, thank you, 1959cwb. Mucho entertainment.) --but I occasionally like to hear the CBS Orchestra rock it Old School. When I get that itch, I go to Hulu and search for Lost in Space.
Just choose any season 3 ep and watch about 3 minutes in, until countdown.
@nebula4001 This theme, along with a pleatora of musical cues use throughout the series, is on the "Los in Space 40th Anniversary Edition" CD from La-La Land Records. They have sold out, but I'm certain you can find it at Amazon or ebay.
@Velocity9s This version is actually from the "Television's Greatest Hits-Vol. 1" album. Most of the themes were re-created. I don't have the explanation for the "tinni-ness".
When the show first came out, I was only 11 years old. I thought it was exciting and scary. And the cliff-hanger endings would make me want to tune in every week. They are showing episodes very early on Saturdays now (5 AM). I watch them when I can.
There were season four shots made for the series. Up until the studio tried to make Irwin Allen make the series on the cheap everything was primed and ready to go. I believe some footage of season four material still exists. Now there's a good task for a film buff working at Fox! Seek young man...seek!
@johnalang Jonathan Harris explains the reasoning behind it in an interview he did. Search "Jonathan Harris interview" here on you-tube and it should come up. He actually was quite an interesting man.
@MrEvan8689 Whoda thunk it that Harris grew up in NY city! I'm from LongGUYland originally and know the thick accents 'up North' and am here to tell you he dose NOT(did not, sorry to say) sound like he's from there!
@johnalang It was a "gimmick" that Harris suggested to Irwin Allen. Originally, the Smith character was going to be killed off after the first five episodes or so. Harris impressed Allen so much, he was kept on and the "special guest star" title stayed.
This was related to me in a conversation with the late, great Jonathan Harris at a convention in Atlanta, GA some 20 years ago.
Mister Jonathan Harris was an extremely gracious, as well as distinguished, gentleman.
@johnalang I read an article that explained that when he was hiredthey were going to kill off his character but he made such an important contribution as a humorous bad guy that when they renegotiated his contract he gained the staus as permanant special guest star because it would not have been right to put his name above the actors who were hired before him...although his role outgrew practically everyone but Will Robinson and the robot.
@johnalang He explained this in an interview once. He was the last hired and Irwin Allen told him he would have to take last billing. Harris said he did NOT want last billing, but he did want to be on the show. He thought about how to solve the billing problem (Allen would not agree to take him out of last position), so Harris finally told Allen he'd take last billing if and only if he could be billed as special guest star. According to Harris, Allen screamed and yelled, but finally agreed.
Excelente presentación. Es la única forma de poner una intro de la series de Irwin Allen, sin que la repugnante y egoísta Fox pueda reclamar algún derecho.
@jed6271 One of the things that killed LIS was it's totally ridiculous Third Season stories, as it moved away from hardcore science fiction and survival horror/ Also, Allen had 3 other shows at the same time, and the budgets and high amount of recylcled props weren't enough to help the Robinsons reach escape velocity for another season. Thank God we had 3 seasons at all.
@3dartistguy NO, more like "Space Beauty" "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" and 'A Day At The Zoo."
A GREAT episode was "Visit To A Hostile Planet" where the Robinsons land on Earth in 1947 and get mistaken for aliens by the locals. "Kidnapped In Space" was also pretty good, even though the aliens looked like recycled invaders from "The Time Tunnel." And there was more flight time for the Jupiter, so that was cool. A mixed bag at best.
Well Im glad you said there were some great episodes from the third year...Star Trek wasn't exactly flying on all thrusters in its third year either, but I can name quote a few episodes of the third year that I thought were great, The Haunted Lighthouse, The SPace Destructors, Hunters Moon, Anti matter man, Space Creature, and i really didn't think the Vegatable Rebellion was really that bad, just because Bill MUmy is a member of greenpeace...and it kinds mocks that organization's radicalism.
@3dartistguy YES! "Hunter's Moon" with Megazor and "Haunted Lighthouse" were also good.
My fave episode going back to 1st Season was the ender, "Follow The Leader" where Prof. Robinson is possessed by an evil warrior spirit, A great example of true sci fi-horror and a nice tie-in to 2nd Season's opener, "Blast Off Into Space."
Other great episodes from Season One are "Invaders From The Fifth Dimension" and "There Were Giants On The Earth" with the Cyclops.
@3dartistguy Another episode from Season Two is a big fave of mine just for it's total strangeness...remember "Wreck Of The Robot"? They had these 3 aliens in hats and cloaks with glitter skin that swayed back and forth and spoke in low, menacing tones. While it wasn't a fave of the critics, it was a veryt bizarre tale, and I found the Zaticons to be the strangest aliens they ever had on the show. They were very creepy...
@3dartistguy Let's also NOT forget "War Of The Robots" from Season One. That entire dialogue between Robby and the B9 was great, with that old music from The Day The Earth Stood Still in the background. Season One had some real chillers to it.
Do you have the Complete Lost IN Space Trviia challenge book? This book came out about 12 years ago...it was a really good book. you'ed love it...can we be friends?
@3dartistguy Love the discussion and agree with most of your choices. I would include the first three episodes of the second season when they finally got back into space.
mE TOO..THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE PLANET HOPPING IN THE SECOND YEAR THE WAY THEY DID IN THE THIRD YEAR...BUT I GUESS IRWIN ALLEN WAS TRYING TO FOLLOW THE FORMAT OF THE FIRST YEAR BUT WITH COMEDY....TOO BAD.
@1959cwb Right-O The plans that the alien in "Follow The Leader" fixed the J2 with was their ticket oiff the planet when the mines Nerim was splitting ther core of the planet mining for Cosmonium. There was also a First Season episode about an alien wishing machine, with the alien coming back for it when the Robinsons got greedy in it's use.
@3dartistguy I think I already have you on the friend list. One thing you might like to know, is that I have the LIS entetainment suite for Windows 95, came out years back. It has sound FX from the show, and video bits you can add when your PC starts and shuts down, ect. Good stuff!
lost in space and the twillight zone are my all time favourite shows.

epilepsyman47 10 months ago

I for one can't stand most of the Star Trek series because they are too serious and too political.
marcparella 1 year ago
@marcparella Well, You're entiteled to that opinion but Star Trek was DRAMATIC television about a possible future for mankind. Roddenbury was of the opinion that Man could over come our problems(as a Christian, I know better, but thats not what we're talking about specifically...). He often used Trek to address 'present day'(1960's) problems like the Korean war conflict(watch 'A Private Little War'-it involves bigger military powers involved in esculating a smaller community's cival war). U See?

Hey , good job! But this isn't the original tune, nor is the opening! I mean this is it , but not the one from the series, Am I wrong?
alexyomero76 1 year ago
Ahh, if there only WAS a fourth season! One has to wonder if a fourth season would continue the mediocrity of seasons 2 and 3, or would Allen have fired all those script writers and get some fresh ideas for season 4? I guess we'll never know.
thenewhorizons 1 year ago
@thenewhorizons the assholes at cbs cut the shows budget and allen jumped shipped, he said the budget had been cut to low to keep producing the show the way he wanted, their was supposed to definitely be a season four. thanks assholes at cbs

@andyseaview I wonder... did this show air at 9PM on Thursdays on CBS, and then get replaced by the long-running *Hawaii Five-O* series?
StukInBuf 7 months ago
@StukInBuf I was too young to remember, i didn't start watching the show until it was in reruns at 4pm during the week on i think cbs, this was in the mid 70s
andyseaview 7 months ago
@andyseaview Yeah I agree with ya man the show deserved more.
michaelhviper 6 months ago
@andyseaview tv shows back then were bought and sold by their time slots, it really wouldn't have mattered if they could have filmed the show for a penny (LOL) someone wanted the time slot and they were going to force Lost in Space and irwin allen out; no mater what it took.

nebula4001 1 year ago
@nebula4001 - by "this season," I expect that you mean season 3, the last, from about 1967, which is also my favorite.
The synth treatment on this page is fine (Sincerely it is, thank you, 1959cwb. Mucho entertainment.) --but I occasionally like to hear the CBS Orchestra rock it Old School. When I get that itch, I go to Hulu and search for Lost in Space.
Just choose any season 3 ep and watch about 3 minutes in, until countdown.
Ask, and ye shall receive.

@nebula4001 This theme, along with a pleatora of musical cues use throughout the series, is on the "Los in Space 40th Anniversary Edition" CD from La-La Land Records. They have sold out, but I'm certain you can find it at Amazon or ebay.

glenlincoln1 1 year ago
@glenlincoln1 This is a good rendition but its NOT the actual super cool(by Johnathan Williams of Star Wars...etc) version. And it's too 'tinny'.
Velocity9s 6 months ago
@Velocity9s This version is actually from the "Television's Greatest Hits-Vol. 1" album. Most of the themes were re-created. I don't have the explanation for the "tinni-ness".
vinylrecord68 6 months ago
When the show first came out, I was only 11 years old. I thought it was exciting and scary. And the cliff-hanger endings would make me want to tune in every week. They are showing episodes very early on Saturdays now (5 AM). I watch them when I can.

I liked it when it credited the robot.
michaelhviper 1 year ago
There were season four shots made for the series. Up until the studio tried to make Irwin Allen make the series on the cheap everything was primed and ready to go. I believe some footage of season four material still exists. Now there's a good task for a film buff working at Fox! Seek young man...seek!

@johnalang Jonathan Harris explains the reasoning behind it in an interview he did. Search "Jonathan Harris interview" here on you-tube and it should come up. He actually was quite an interesting man.
MrEvan8689 1 year ago
@MrEvan8689 Whoda thunk it that Harris grew up in NY city! I'm from LongGUYland originally and know the thick accents 'up North' and am here to tell you he dose NOT(did not, sorry to say) sound like he's from there!
Velocity9s 6 months ago
@johnalang CONTRACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cindyspaceful 1 year ago
@johnalang It was a "gimmick" that Harris suggested to Irwin Allen. Originally, the Smith character was going to be killed off after the first five episodes or so. Harris impressed Allen so much, he was kept on and the "special guest star" title stayed.
This was related to me in a conversation with the late, great Jonathan Harris at a convention in Atlanta, GA some 20 years ago.
Mister Jonathan Harris was an extremely gracious, as well as distinguished, gentleman.
Actionguy1 1 year ago

I always like this opening theme than the other one

Excelente presentación. Es la única forma de poner una intro de la series de Irwin Allen, sin que la repugnante y egoísta Fox pueda reclamar algún derecho.

Nice Season 3 theme remix, great pics, oh if only there was a 4th season!!
jed6271 2 years ago
@jed6271 One of the things that killed LIS was it's totally ridiculous Third Season stories, as it moved away from hardcore science fiction and survival horror/ Also, Allen had 3 other shows at the same time, and the budgets and high amount of recylcled props weren't enough to help the Robinsons reach escape velocity for another season. Thank God we had 3 seasons at all.
Shawnster65 1 year ago
the rediculous stories like ":The Anti-Matter Man"?
3dartistguy 1 year ago
@3dartistguy NO, more like "Space Beauty" "The Great Vegetable Rebellion" and 'A Day At The Zoo."
A GREAT episode was "Visit To A Hostile Planet" where the Robinsons land on Earth in 1947 and get mistaken for aliens by the locals. "Kidnapped In Space" was also pretty good, even though the aliens looked like recycled invaders from "The Time Tunnel." And there was more flight time for the Jupiter, so that was cool. A mixed bag at best.
Shawnster65 1 year ago
Well Im glad you said there were some great episodes from the third year...Star Trek wasn't exactly flying on all thrusters in its third year either, but I can name quote a few episodes of the third year that I thought were great, The Haunted Lighthouse, The SPace Destructors, Hunters Moon, Anti matter man, Space Creature, and i really didn't think the Vegatable Rebellion was really that bad, just because Bill MUmy is a member of greenpeace...and it kinds mocks that organization's radicalism.
3dartistguy 1 year ago
@3dartistguy YES! "Hunter's Moon" with Megazor and "Haunted Lighthouse" were also good.
My fave episode going back to 1st Season was the ender, "Follow The Leader" where Prof. Robinson is possessed by an evil warrior spirit, A great example of true sci fi-horror and a nice tie-in to 2nd Season's opener, "Blast Off Into Space."
Other great episodes from Season One are "Invaders From The Fifth Dimension" and "There Were Giants On The Earth" with the Cyclops.
Shawnster65 1 year ago
@3dartistguy Another episode from Season Two is a big fave of mine just for it's total strangeness...remember "Wreck Of The Robot"? They had these 3 aliens in hats and cloaks with glitter skin that swayed back and forth and spoke in low, menacing tones. While it wasn't a fave of the critics, it was a veryt bizarre tale, and I found the Zaticons to be the strangest aliens they ever had on the show. They were very creepy...
Shawnster65 1 year ago
@3dartistguy Let's also NOT forget "War Of The Robots" from Season One. That entire dialogue between Robby and the B9 was great, with that old music from The Day The Earth Stood Still in the background. Season One had some real chillers to it.

mE TOO..THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE PLANET HOPPING IN THE SECOND YEAR THE WAY THEY DID IN THE THIRD YEAR...BUT I GUESS IRWIN ALLEN WAS TRYING TO FOLLOW THE FORMAT OF THE FIRST YEAR BUT WITH COMEDY....TOO BAD.
3dartistguy 1 year ago

Good stuff!
