Off key, out of tune and not in time even though the accompanist did all he could to keep up with her. Simon was exactly correct in his criticism. When you sing you're telling a story. Forget the "soul." The music has the soul. Express it. If you can't bring the soul out of the music you can't sing.

It sounds like a bad arrangement, but she skips a line but the pianist isn't allowed to adjust to the singer, so the whole thing sounds horrible. The singing wasn't really that bad, but she shouldn't have skipped the verse...ouch

She was unprepared and it wasn't a perfect perfomance. However I love her interputation of this song: the soulful gospel riffs DID IT for me. I remember this performance from when I first saw it on AI so it left an impression on me and made me appreciate a song I otherwise wouldn't have thought twice about. Anyway I completely agree with Randy on this one.
