I don't know why they don't put extinguishing systems on these machines. It would only cost a few hundred dollars to protect a 200K+ machine, not to mention potential crop loss. A simple pressurized water system with a little foam concentrate is all you need.
I didnt know whether to check like or dislike, either way the combine is a total loss! I can about guess what started it! The only thing to do is plow or disk around the machine to contain the fire and otherwise let it burn out! Sometimes owning ur own fire water pumper would be good, but maybe not too practical.Hope he had Insurance! Thanks for sharing!
What I can't understand is why is the other machines stopped and everyone standing around looking at it? I mean if that was my crop I'd be cracking the whip on the other machines to keep going and get the crop off. Also you're hardly gonna pay for a burnt combine if the other ones are parked up... But still scary stuff!
Those "cheap" plastic panels you refer to are made out of a soybean by-product thereby increasing the value of the very product the machine is harvesting. Expensive steel panels would only make the machine even more expensive and take away profit from the the bean farmer driving it.
@pokemaster5867 the only reason there only johndeere on fire is cause there is not case to burn god said i need something to burn i cant fine a case lets burn a 20 year old combine
we've had them smoldering but never burn up yet, sunflowers are the worst it seems the chaff and dust just builds up so bad, i've heard most of the time its just static that starts em, since we started bolting a chain to the frame and letting it drag it doesn't do it as much
usually combine fires start as a fuel leak. Or a bearing over heating in the fan and sparking up and igniting the grain. Once those things get going there is no stopping them. No big deal, another one will be built by somebody. the government will pay for it all.

What caused this fire?. Was it a runaway diesel engine?
spitfire1936 5 months ago
@spitfire1936 doubt it prolly got some stalks and grain dust to close to the motor and the heat of the motor started it on fire

@TheDelicious0015 calling people gay... "old 1. try something else."
also if they weren't cheap and made everything out of 100% plastic things like this wouldn't happen!
