this is a very interesting time for politics in america. if jon huntsman will be the final candidate for the election in 2012, obama will lose. in 1980, a lot of people said they would usually vote for democrats but this time for reagan. nowadays, we got a very similar situation. I hear a lot of democrats saying, that they would consider jon huntsman to be the best republican nominee. and if he would attrect these voters more, they would do the same as in 1980.

Jon is the kind of man who would allow states to choose for themselves. He is a Mormon, Mormons don't believe in civil union so he wouldn't really be able to call himself a supporter of it. I personally live in Utah, the recession hasn't hit here as much as other states because of his policies. He choose the right decisions for this state, he would do the same for the country I see more and more out-of-state plates on roads. Maybe coincidence, who knows. @PointBomaN Jon Huntsman is a supporter of civil unions and the LDS church does not explicitly oppose civil unions. It opposes same-sex marriage, but if you mean Mormons (the membership), I would agree that most of the church membership does not support civil unions. There also is not political support at the Utah state level or at the national level for civil unions.

If the GOP seriously thinks it can beat Obama next Nov. '12, they MUST nominate a candidate like Huntsman, who believes in Gay Rights. Romney also believes in Civil Unions. Any Republican Candidate who opposes Gay Rights, will absolutely, positively lose the election.
