Anyway, I always learned (in U.S. American schools...) that The AMERICAS → are composed of two continents... North and South. Everyone in these two continents are AMERICAN. I was working at my business in another part of the country and didnt had any news of them for about 36 hours .. those was the longest I had ever lived ...

I want to make this clear for all of you. Chile is a Spanish speaking country located in South America next to Argentina. It is the 38th largest country in the world and one of the strongest (economically) countries in the entire America continent. English Language is taught in schools and universities, so it is possible that Chileans could manage themselves when it comes to communicating in a second language.

it's not just chile california and hawaii. the seismic epicenter, it is said, that it was caused off-shore (which could explain less casualties but higher in magnitude than in haiti). this means that the waves will spread thru the ocean in the form of tsunami's, and to that magnitude (8.8) it will go across all of the pacific oceans. philipines, polinecians and areas as well as the asian coast lines should also watch for it. thx for posting this since i've been following this story due to Chile.

Actually this earthquake put out 5-900 times MORE energy than the earthquake that hit Haiti. Had Haiti the previous quake experience that this area had they would have had the same building specifications and their damage would not have been as bad. But they were caught by surprise and 8.8 is unbelievably strong. My heart and prayers go out to all affected. Those in Haiti, Chile and everyone who will be hit by the tsunami as well. :(
