  • Ahhh..fk it,I'll never get it!

  • Saw a warwick in the thumbnail, couldn't resist clicking. Gotta love that tone. My fav. is still musicman though. (:

  • this guy is awesome and i love the music he puts up, but is anyone else more than slightly disturbed by his thumb?

  • dee best lesson!

  • i have that bass. i only wish i could do that.

  • Great!!! Thanx!

  • yeah, fucking easy!...for you

  • nice beard!

  • Oh man u are monster :D

  • That's that exact bass that I want for Christmas!! It looks awesome

  • Good job man !

  • Really cool bro!

  • Im just waiting for Kramer to come barging in....lol

  • @MeanT241985 ha! If Kramer burst in that'd really make my day!

  • Ahhh Corvette Standard!

  • The trick is to relax your hands.

  • If I played bass, It's highly probable I'd do nothing but that for days.

  • thank you for posting this video, it's really insightful :)

  • you need work in your time, but the things is pretty :)

  • Yeah!

  • sick, wicked upload

    absolutely nailed it

    and that tone is niiiice

  • why load je op als je niet wilt ik naar jou luister

  • Is that a Warwick bass your playing? looks like a rock bass.

  • I've been trying to double thumb properly for at least a year now. This is by far the most difficult thing I have ever learned on an instrument.

  • but when i slap a string, i either bounce my thumb right off or i rest it on top of the string (my thumb tip points upwards, should it point in the direction of the string?), how am i meant to get my thumb underneath the string, and on the the way back up do i pluck with my thumbnail or the skin?

  • i slap for 2 years and i can play this

    i learn 2 hours

    thanks, i'm smile

  • I'm always afraid of slappin' cuz i think ima bust a string hahaha

  • Your bass has a weiner! :D

  • @Rampndude hahaha! Yep, sure does – the affectionately known 'cock' bass

  • yeeaaaah^^

  • after watching this video I lost the will to play bass ._.

  • @kXcful Oh no – well that's not really the intention!

  • Ugh this technique is so fuckin hard!!! Hella challenging. Good job on the vid tho

  • палец как шняга)))) очень не четко

  • Nice Warwick and great video there man!

  • wow

  • what exactly is the technique? is it slapping all the strings with your thumb or the up stroke example with your thumb you showed at the end of the clip? i haven't heard of double thumbing before

  • @Alexnchains16 The idea is that you strike through the string and then come back up through the string immediately afterwards. Think of it as using your thumb like a plectrum. Victor Wooten is pretty much the master of this technique, so check out some of his tutorials.

  • Is the master because victors create it, check victoor biography, he create that thechnice 100 %

  • Thanks for this vid, I'm starting to get the technique down. The key seems to be to use the tip of your thumb like a pick, rather than the knuckle, which is used for a normal slap. Also, the rotary motion starts to come natural as you get it down. Between you and MarloweDK I've learned so much in the last few weeks. Played straight fingers for years, time to learn something new.

  • @RCAvhstape Thanks for the comment – that's great that you're getting into new stuff – good analysis of the technique too.

  • nice man :D

  • Thanks! sweet warwick!

  • nice

  • good perform ..

  • How do you get the first note to ring? I always end up muting it :P

  • @tomnsteve Could be a few things. Could perhaps be that you're not letting your thumb bounce of the string as soon as you've struck it?

  • Lumber jacks can play!!!

  • @keepntyme Lol, should that not be can play 'okay' :)

  • nice warwick

  • @woodsjunkie66 man I was just gonna say that hahaha Corvette right? or fortress?

  • @Requeium Thanks for the comment, Corvette it is

  • Great vid

  • Damn.

  • i got the same bass

  • god damn that is such a juicy bass line. yum

  • sounds awesome man, keep it up!

    PS. i'm not 40-50 years old HaHa i'm 23.

  • Cheers for a really great video! I really learnt a lot from it..

I find the double-thumb technique pretty hard to do...maybe part of it is that my thumb does not curl at all!! It's a flippin' block of wood!

Thanks man, you've inspired me to try hard on it again!

    Take it easy

  • @bananafingerrrs that's great that the vid inspired you. It's a cool little trick to have under your belt for when that very rare bass solo comes about. Check out my vid BL10 too, double thumb/double pop lesson there

  • @bananafingerrrs oop, BL11 actually

  • The German Corvette Passive IS the ultamate funk machine! I have one like this and 2 other wicks... Great investment in your music career.

  • That's a sexy lookin Warwick... my weapon of choice as well

  • Very good ! ya got my vote !

  • IS THAT A WARWICK?

  • i love warwick...cost you and arm a leg and shitton off cash to buy one tho

  • holy shit its John Dore

  • @SteamBoatBilly Lol! There is a likeness. Never heard of that guy before, v funny.

  • Nice, tight shot on the slowed down version. Very helpful!

(Our local bass pro says, "You have to sell your soul to the devil to double thumb!") cute...

  • @stephendawg1 Just like Robert Johnson! Great, glad it's helpful.

  • well done!

  • Your playing's almost as funky as that awesome beard!

  • Is that a Ibanez GSR250? Looks like it but the body's a bit different...

  • @Scottythegreat13 it's Warwick Corvette Standard, passive, bubinga body and wedge neck. thanks

  • looks like a dean? awesome not really my choice for slap but you made work

  • maknyus !

  • no need tab for thisjust listen and watch

  • :O Nice!!!!!!!!!!!

  • awesome! can you send me the tabs? pls..

  • looks just like my 5 string cort !

  • Tabs are a crutch, best way to learn is by ear.

  • that was delicious dude!

  • tabs...youre way too good to not post them.....

    this lick is mad

  • nice groove dude!

  • Nice playing! I see that its Warwick corvette standard, but im asking wood is it bubinga or what? Looks like it and again damn nice playing!

  • @2scrimble9 Thanks for the comment and good get, it is bubinga.

  • @casimer I have same but swamp ash body and antique tobacco oil finish, if interested you can check my only video, tho i recorded it when i had some fever so its not so good ;p

  • go to the park

  • AWESOME! thank you!

  • diggin the beard bro ....

  • Thanks for another blister!

  • look at that beard. its jesus haha

  • Just Plain Awesome! Thanks for the blister Pal !!!! Nice work, broke down good enough for the intermediate player...thanks again!

  • thats kool u got tabs coz i would like to learn that

  • @forthefallen6 been asked to tab it a lot now, so I'll get on it and tab it up soon. cheers!

  • thats kool do u have tabs??? i would like to learn that i only know one slap bass song but that is kool and i would wanna learn it

  • thanks for this vid bro. at first i thought it would be hard to learn so i put it off, i just now picked up my bass and got down most of the techniques in about an hour :D keep posting those vids!

  • Beautiful warwick

  • Is there any way you could post a tab of this? I can see what your right hand is doing, but I'm not sure what notes you're playing for the sliding or the double thumping, and the lack of the dots or boxes on your bass makes it that much more difficult to tell.

    Thanks

  • @Seand412 it's true, no dots are too useful see judging neck position. I'll put tabbing it up on the list! There's some tabs available for some of my other vids too.

  • @Seand412 oop, i meant 'aren't'

  • Thumb extensions.

  • Hi Casimer, thank you very much for your advice.

I try to keep on practising, I'm only afraid I'm on a wrong way sometimes...ok, but after watching a few videos I think, I'm on the right way. So seems like i just need to practise more;-)

  • Sir, you have such great tone and technique and I think that I saw a post from you that you can not use some of these techniques in the band that you are in. Don't you find it frustrating & limiting? I am a rock guitarist turned country & blues bassist who absoultly LOVES the funk & slap methods that you do but don't think that I will ever be able to use them except for my own fun!

  • @garoflex thanks for the comment. I'm no longer playing in that band and looking to put together a funkier group, so yes, I did find it frustrating! You can always try and sneak in a few pops here and there and see what your band mates do!

  • damn so insane

  • Sick tune

  • I very good

  • sick technique

  • ...and when playing on higher frets it is really hard to get an good pluck sound...because the strings are closer to the neck and its not easy to pluck them...(i belive it's all practice?!9

  • @Fantasmo81 ...It depends a lot on preference and how your bass is set up. As you say, practice, trial and error, see what works for you. All the best!

  • Hi can you see these following to pictures, and tell me which thumb position is the right one:

    1... img823 . imageshack .us/img823/7207/dscf4892.jpg

    2... img808 . imageshack .us/img808/3184/dscf4893.jpg

Do you rest your thumb after down stroke a little moment on the neck? When playing not near the neck my thumb tends to slip completly through the strigs(which is probably caused by playing not enough near the neck??).Do you hold your thumb parallel to the strings or like pointing directly 2 them?

  • @Fantasmo81 Hi, sorry I didn't reply before, only just saw this comment. I checked out your pics and then had a look at my own technique. It varies a lot from person to person because of how your hands are put together etc. I have my thumb practically parallel with the strings and strike through to rest on the next string. In this vid, I am playing so there's some contact with the fretboard, but sometimes I play away from the neck entirely...

  • I like this...cool.

  • I love double thumb triplets! I've also used it in one of my videos (check out "Double Thumb" video).

  • nice job man! I've also tried something like that, you can find it in my channel (vid named "Double Thumb") cheers!

  • Fucking Warwicks, man. I wish I had a couple grand to drop on one.

  • VERY COOL !

    THANK'S MAN!!

  • Damnn! even though i just Figured out Double thumbing about 3 days ago, this showed me the wayy to a more comprehensive wayy of doing soo! Much thanks too Any ann all bassists

  • @HoodLoot that's cool, good that it helped

  • bonza dude

  • ive got the same bass man. Love the sound of the warwicks

  • this is only a opion but when you make a lesson video you should talk to because all you are doing is visual but you never give a kinestetic or auditory learning which make it very hard to learn off this

  • @sammemqandil That's fair enough. I speak on another video illustrating the same technique: 'Slap Bass lesson, double thumb/pluck and funk peel-off. Just bought an external mic... so I'll be doing more talky ones soon.

  • @sammemqandil see... i get more help out of just watching. when they talk i feel as if they just blabber on sometimes about something pointless when i'd rather just watch them do it slow like he did. so i found his video very helpful

  • wow....thanx....

  • FFFFF

    How do you do it?!

  • Just practice. Hours and hours of practice and the love of it.

  • @casimer I try every time I play my bass, and it's okay, just doesn't seem to apply as bass slapping/popping.

  • @JoyoPrower you could maybe try lighter gauge strings if you're not getting the attack you're after. It also really helps to have as low an action as you can to make this easier to do. Hope you get it sounding right

  • @casimer Well, I'm using the strings it came with, I think most bass string gagues are pretty much the same, maybe not.

  • looks like a Warwick to me...

  • Sweet groove man

  • Dude, turn up your amp!

  • Dude, turn up your volume!

  • RAAAAAAAADDDDDDDD!!!

  • U got any tabs for that lil ditty? promise i aint gonna steal em im just learning the most technique stuff as possible and i think im pretty close by ear but i can hear somethings not quite right. if u could send me those that would be much appreciated brotha.

  • Warwick STD4 Corvette Ash?

Also known as the Warwick Cock Bass

    (I own the 5 string)

  • Lol, cock bass. It's bubinga, nice weight.

  • Yeah man,, I appreciate it

  • jajaajaa EXELENT!!!!! thanks man

  • That triplet sounds nice.

  • What gauge string do you use? I am using mediums maybe medheavy and my thumb always gets caught. I was thinking of switching to super lights (rotosound funkmasters). Think this would help me?

  • I use standards, mainly because I don't want to lose the rounder tone I like for finger style. It's worth experimenting with different gauges though and if the light strings feel good, then they're right for you. In terms of your thumb getting caught; try reducing the movement of your thumb to the minimum to sound the notes and then build on speed gradually.

  • @Orgybar

    use 0.40

  • thanks man for posting this, i will learn this soon

  • amaizing

how much does it hurt the thumb at first?

I'm just not able to do that :(

  • you've got to build it up at first, I took the skin off my thumb when I first started doing it. But it soon toughens up. You'll be able to do it, it's just practice, lots of practice.

  • Comment removed

  • Take it slow and work on control, that's all it is, control... It took me about 3 years to get my control down to an art, but if you work at it, it will flow like water.

  • Most important thing here is that he is keeping his hand in the closed position. Helps with speed and accuracy.

Some of the sounds are like triplets on the drums...

  • so pro

i wish i can do that

    im bad at slappng bass

cuz i have bad aim lol

  • Fantastic. Thanks.

  • Very nice. Thanks man.

  • really funky bro. great example and instruction of those awesome triplets! :D and I know its not something that matters as much as the groove or anything lol but better recording quality wouldnt go astray if you can get the right stuff. Keep up brou, sounds funky

  • Hi, thanks for the comment. Check out all my videos within the last month or so for better quality sound.

  • I,ve got a cheapo Johnson whoknowswhat electric bass and have been self teaching myself for a couple of years. I got the slap then pop with my fingers but I never get the second slap with my thumb. I feel like the play on my strings are totally different then what I hear with most slap players. The strings on your bass seem even all the way down.

  • record yourself and listen to it. not only will it show you where you're going wrong, it can be your best teacher ;D

+ you'll hear yourself while you aren't particularly concentrating, and it might sound a little better to your liking :)

  • ehy, this is the clearest vid of bass lesson i'v ever seen. very good, man! ;)

    and...sorry for my english..

  • Thanks for the positive feedback, glad it's helpful I'll be posting more v soon.

  • so basically the double thumb technique is the equivalent of using your thumb as a 'plecktrum+slapbass'

makes sense, but correct me if i'm wrong please, i'm trying to learn this trick

  • That's exactly what it is thumb as pick. Trying to do it too hard can make it difficult, the technique doesn't have the same sound as a straight thumb slap.

  • try to shuffle a little bit more...it will sound a lot more groovy

  • gotta love warwicks ^-^

  • i got that bass in black. amazing

  • quality mate.

  • Dude, u r awesome!

But stop playin an show me HOW!!!

  • very nice i'd like to start learning some slap bass... :]

  • Thanks for the comment. In the words of Arnie: "Do it now!" I'd say which books to check out, but now there's so many tutors on youtube you can save your money. This guy, Alexis Sklarevski's vids are cool, he's also got amazing style.

  • Nice vid. Wooten style!

  • hey is that an ibanez gio i got the same one but red

  • hell no it is not. thats a warwick corvette!

  • u rock
