This video helped me a lot thanks. As has already been said the vent cover is a bit of a pain as you think it may break but it does just pop off, also a long screwdriver helps to undo the distribution block otherwise its a bit hard to get your hand in to undo the screw ;-)
I have had the grom ipod interface in my wife's prius for about 3 months, works great. The instructions here are helpful, had difficulty in getting the vent out-was scared of breaking it. But somehow managed to do it. Getting it professionally done (parts + labor) would have cost at least $180, and i got it done for simply the part price - from Grom from around $90. And yes, you can hide the GROM box as hsocasnavarro mentioned, above the glove box (must push in from behind and up).
Do you think the installation will be the same for a 2005 model? The car looks exactly the same but the audio system is a little different (still a JBL 6-cd changer)
Just got mine up and working!! Installation was a breeze, but here are a couple of suggestions:
1)I lost the screw that holds the distribution box when I tried to put it back in place. That's because I put the box first and then tried to thread the screw. But it's too far, hence the problem. It's better to put the screw in the hole first and then put the box back in place
2)You can hide the GROM box away behind the glove compartment. Before you put it back, place the GROM device on the white plastic base. It fits very nicely between it and the metal bar on top. I used velcro tape to hold it in place and keep it from vibrating. This way you only have the black cable visible in the glove compartment.
So cool! I was just looking for a nice clear version (not live) of this Cure song...wasn't expecting this video. Really cool idea! Great song choice too...obviously!! :-)
