@denham2011 I know you posted your message 3 yrs ago, but I'd like to say Japanese TV still does these types of comedic casual "game" routines, albeit with more hilarity. Of particular interest are "Gaki no Tsukai" - a male group who must play a game in a library while avoiding laughter, play "tag" for 24 hours straight, etc. The library portion was so popular, America made their own version. Unlike America, Japanese shows are not motivated by money, only ratings and sharing good laughs.
To answer denham2011's question, IMHO What's My Line? is simply one of the greatest game shows of all time. This game show was both funny and educational. No other game show could touch it in this regard. Yes you can get this show on DVD from Amazon.com. Unfortunately there are only four episodes. One mystery guest is the legendary Lucille Ball and another is the legendary Bette Davis. The DVD is worth getting for that.
i've watched every one available here on You Tube. And it's changed my life. They were so witty and urbane, so well informed. It's inspiring. Thank god these kinescopes still exist. jrs
President Kennedy was a very nice man, was NOT difficult to protect, and NEVER ordered the agents off the rear of his limousine (nor did his staff). The buck stops with the Secret Service. Don't believe any books by former agents trying to say otherwise!
"and actually ENJOY" That is hilarious! Don't know if it's on DVD but there are a ton of youtube postings. P.S. I'm just an "old lady" so no need to reply - I am just so pleased that there are smart teens out there. Great parents I bet too. Enjoy.
Thanx for posting this historical clip. The secret service nowadays is so . . . secret, such a empire of itself that I seriously doubt its director would appear on any sort of television, let alone TV where smart people can ask him questions. Notice that Thanks to Daly and the panel, this sequence is interesting, educational and amusing. Listen carefully to Fred Allen's accent and you will notice his original Massachusetts roots. Arlene came from MA, too, but she doesn't add Rs.
Thanx for posting this historical clip. Fascinating. This is the 2nd time the panel walked out to the desk to show off women's fashions. Unusual -- one of the 1st times AF enters first and first time? FA enters last to introduce Daly. Eventually AF and DK would alternate in the first chair so that Dorothy didn't have to figure out how to present a guest panelist EVERY week. Personally I think WML should have rotated everyone through first and last seat.
If only he knew what would happen in just 8 years!

Holy cow! AF and DK both look like knockouts! They certainly picked amazing dresses for the first permanent curtain entrance. I want Dorothy's shoes!

@UofLCardFan08 You have good taste, sir. WML was/is the greatest panel show ever!

This is a 'get a life' post, but I noticed the this contestant shook hands with the panel twice. That didn't happen too often.

I have a question. Was Dorothy pregnant here?
ousooner280 3 years ago
I don't think so. I understand that her pregnancy the year before (1954) was her third and last child.
soulierinvestments 3 years ago
Thank you very much! I just saw her walk out and thought her stomach was bigger but that's just me....
ousooner280 3 years ago
Mr. Baughman looked awfully pleased that Dorothy insisted on his getting the full prize.

Fred Allen rules dry ironic wit.
