  • a galaxy of melodies

  • intro masterpiece kai meta ta myala sta kagela!fata morgana!

  • Dream Theater have some truly great songs (Pull Me Under, for example) but too often focus on fucking around on their instruments, rather than making actual music, like Fates Warning do ;)

  • I get confused when people call this power metal, progressive, thrash :S Or US power metal is everything!

  • @Abitovsloth Yes it is good. It only has 6 songs but is more of a concept type deal. It really needs to be heard on disk w/ the song book lyrics. Sort of like a Queensryche (Operation Mindcrime) or Pink Floyd deal in terms of listening. I have mine hooked up to my computer or my DVD player. I listen on ear phones (room mate) but growin on me...That means it kiksass. My fav. right now is Stained Glass Sky. #3

Search Arch/Matheos and you can get it with fast shipping under 13 bux.

  • This album took me a few spins for everything to come out at me. There is much more underneath than what appears on initial listen. Great album!

  • @Abitovsloth

I love the new album... but just search up some clips on YouTube and decide for yourself :)

  • @Abitovsloth

Not just 'was'... he just released a new album with Jim Matheos!

  • why is it that every time I want to hear an Arch / Fates Warning song I am blasted w/ Dream Theater references.....No Fucking comparison. Stop it. They so bite off Fates Warning---Plus they suck total ass. Love this classic.

  • @beecee151- Brother, I am 100% with you. When I'm playing Fates Warning and someone says "This sounds like Dream Theater" I want to slap them silly. No fucking comparison, like you said. FW is simply the shit, and they were so good so long ago, and awfully young, too. I've had the pleasure of meeting both Ray Alder, and then Frank Aresti, and they couldn't have been nicer. Old school metal forever. Keep the standard high, Bro

  • @beecee151 Dream Theater is not much older than fates warning and they dont suck.

  • @baumwolle8 They don't suck in general, but if we compare them with fates warning, they do suck...

  • Comment removed

  • @baumwolle8 so you say. I simply disagree. If you are a metal fan (obviously) then stick to your stuff. I'm not tryin' to turn anyone but expressing myself as a John Arch and band "Fates Warning" fan. I apologize to anyone if I was too harsh... Just the fact that anyone tried to "youtube" Fates Warning I think is cool, and no need to get nasty about it (including me) HEAVY METAL WILL NEVER DIE!

  • I awaken MY drunken ass every muthafuckin day to "Guardian": The holy grail of metal. Prolly wake MY neighbors up too, but fuck em if they don't know what's good for em...daaamn!!!

    HüX

  • Awaken the guardian is so damn great album and this is one of the best songs on it!:P

  • Fates should rerecord the instrumental part of this album but keep John`s vocals

this deserves a modern day production.

  • This is one of my fave Fates Warning songs..... Incredible.... And the men who love "progressive metal" make me weak in the knees (then and now!)... :-D

  • So far today... The toughest song on my voice (on a few of them really high notes). I use to know about 1/4 of this song on guitar. These guys were always so hard for me to figure out on guitars! Fortunately, I can also sing, so I'm more than 1/4 ahead! :D

  • One of those perfect albums

  • THUMP UP IF YOU THINK THAT ZONDER HAS THE SAME FUNNY CHIN THAN LENO

  • I thought you might be interested to check these two new songs by the Arch-Matheos-Aresti team here in youtube. (from the new Arch/Matheos project to come out in september):

    watch?v=5MmzNo0dSFw&feature=youtu.be

    watch?v=TSpp0Gz5hc8&feature=youtu.be

It is nice to hear John singing again after 25 years of almost complete retirement (with the exception of a Twist of Fate)

  • Why does metal all have to sound the same?

  • @MrRyanbard Do you know many singers that sound (from a vocal and melodical perspective) similar to John Arch? Please tell me who they are! I can only think in Rick Mythiasin during some early steel prophet songs and Øyvind Hageland in Spiral Architect (which both made covers of Arch songs).

  • @MrRyanbard Ehmm... are you deaf? Does this sound like Pantera or like Megadeth? This sounds really different... and most metal does. It's like when people say all Jazz sounds the same... you just show your ignorance :(

  • @MrRyanbard Why do all ignorant people sound the same?

  • FATA MORGANA! SHE WILL TAKE YOU!

  • Best intro ever...

  • @citizen773 Now you are just trying to be funny !!!!

  • 1 negative??? OMG some jealous other band member from 1986 must have done this!!!!!!

  • Arch will release an album with the rest of FW members !!!! (except Ray)

  • @MrEpiclyrandom

i 100% agree man. There is just something that was different back then with recording equipment that had a unique sound that I love.

  • This Album is a real MASTERPIECE

  • Comment removed

  • I always think how amazing some of these albums would sound with today's digital production values. I can only imagine.

  • I have yet to get tired of any Fates Warning Album. I always find myself rocking out to Fata Morgana when I bust out Awaken the Guardian...Just Epic!

  • Favorite song off my favorite album. Where, oh where are you John Arch?

  • My favorite Fates Warning disc . This is one of my favorites , love it till this day .

  • I'm relatively new to this band... are the harmonic guitar duets common? Or is it just this song?

  • @dorkandproudofit If anything is common for Fates Warning, it's the uncommon

  • Best metal album of all time.

  • Love the album, but the cover art looks like a really cheesy air brushed fantasy painting you'd see on the side of old van from the 70's .

  • @cyclone2591 It wouldn't be Fates without the crappy cover art...personally I like it. And if you think this is bad, check out the original artwork on their first album, Night on Broken....not the incredibly lame picture of the moon, but the illustration that looks like a 6th grader did it.

  • @Lengsel7 Znowhite's Act of God owns all shitty album covers...

  • @supmayne1 Obviously you've never seen the cover of Riot's Fire Down Under

  • @emadhatter Act of God is the worst for sure. Fire Down Under never really bothered me lol.

  • Great song Epic Voice too

  • one of my favorite fates warning songs!

  • a very good song thumbs up!

  • GOD !

  • GOD !

  • Before his vocal, I love John Arch's poesy... everyone speaks about his singing... but to me, this album is primarily a composer's masterpiece from the duo Arch/Matteos... never grew tired of listening to it.

Even if the singing style is different between those 2 guys, his departure from Fates Warning always reminded me of Paul Di'anno's departure of Iron Maiden... it was entirely something else afterwards, the discourse became less mystic, more epic, and it showed in the ambiance of the music.

  • epic vocals

  • @Zambior Preference, my son, preference.

  • Damn...

    I like this :D

  • @Zambior Then I guess i'm not into metal, good day sir.

  • hes voice is skilled but its kinda boring to listen to the same hight note all the time..isnt it?nice music btw

  • the prog-period just started

  • Are any other metal singers like this? That sing in high pitched notes like all fuckin day... Kinda like Kiske

  • @supmayne1 Try King Diamond / Mercyful Fate .. vocalist of all time for pitching highs and lows. As for Fates Warning? They lost this guy and got a vocalist with "No Exit" that had a cleaner and broader spectrum. But to me.... I love Fates Warnings first three albums the best making it very difficult to decide between "Awaken The Guarisn and The Spectre Within". Amazing fucking albums and probably the best I've ever soaked in. There are so many I love, but, nothing ever moved me like these!!

  • @YMrulez He sings in Falsetto... But I still listen to Mercyful Fate

  • @YMrulez From these 2 albums you mentioned I'd choose...Night on Brocken!

  • @supmayne1

John Arch and Michael Kiske were two gods who left us much too early. The metal world still misses both of them.

  • these guys come from my home town ..i remember them skipping school to go and practice ..and practice they did morning noon and night and it showed in everything they ever played.it no longer the origanal line up but if you realy want to learn more about them go to wikipedia and get the facts

  • @Zambior

    I agree 100%

  • American metal on his best form! this album is a true classic. This band is just perfect!

  • ray alder is king!

  • @bigtwin85

That would make John Arch god, I think.

  • @bigtwin85

So ? This is John Arch ! Personally I like the period with John much more.

  • @actionrepo its not that he blown his voice out but hes just gotten older as you age your vocal chords are not as flexible as when you where younger

  • @motleycrue24 My Vocals are still the same as a singer. as they we're when i was in my twentie's. so i don't buy the when you get older. i mean Ozzy still sounds the same to me as he did when he was younger. John Arch is still the best!! that is in my opinion. and the real voice of Fates Warning and alway's will be.

  • @actionrepo well thats because ozzy aint fibrato it only really affects singer that are know with great range

  • @motleycrue24 I have vibrato and a high register that is still the same. so sorry no cigar. he probably blew his voice from smoking. that is probably it. i have never been a smoker. so never had a problem. i know a local vocalist that use to sound like rob halford. now from smoking he can't sing anymore. oh well. he recently did a dio cover and it was really bad. so the argument is over. Out!!!!

  • @actionrepo its a medical fact believe what you want your in denial

  • @motleycrue24 Oh it's a medical fact is it? Are you a professional in the field of medicine? simply put my vocal range is the same with high register and vibrato as when i was in my twenties. I think it's you that is in denial. I am 42 years old. and still have the same voice range as i did then. enough said!!!! I am done with this silly argument. please do not comment back. OUT!!!!!!!!!

  • joshmattg Hell yeah Crimson Glorys first 2 are 2 of my favorit albums.

  • @pfeltovich Yes?

  • this is what metal is all about, raise those fuckin fists in the air!

  • heavy and beautiful.

  • 3:01

  • I remember buying this albums back in the 80's, it totally blew me away, musically they were totally on another level than 95% of the other metal bands at the time . This albums passes the test of time especially this song. JA vocals are unique and classic. For all of you young metal pups, if you haven't already added this album and Fates No Exit to your collection GET IT and respect the metal elders.

  • @hoagie1417 i dont only respect metal elders i envy them haha for being brought up in such the golden age decade of metal

  • @hoagie1417

this is the kind of album that went a step further at that time. I remember that day too, i was confused but please & totally amaze.

  • A fucking Classic!

  • the starting riff is perhaps the best metal riff ever.

  • amazing tune from an amazing album !

  • I am listening now to all the vids of the 1st 3 albums and almost with every number shivers all over my body ! Unbelievable, metal of the highest possible quality.

So glad I have all this albums on vinyl.

  • John Arch ..Best Metal singer ever...just like that...doesnt matter if we have not many albums of him...and this song the best ever...it gives me chills....!!!!

  • To my fellow Fates Warning enthusiast musician brothers- If anyone can play this on guitar-PLEASE POST IT. This song RIPS, but somewhat of a mystery on guitar... I would love to see it played. I can play most of Kyrie Eleison, but this one is a RIDDLE!

  • who remembers the days when guitarists were separated between left and right speakers and the two harmonized and the song would not be the same without one or the other!!!

  • I do... I got to discuss it one night with Kerry King from Slayer, in the parking lot of an Arco gas station. I told him how much I loved how he came out of one speaker, and Jeff Hanneman came out the other, so when they traded leads, it shredded through the listener's skull like a bullet. And the harmonies are very separate and distinct that way, making it easier to decipher on guitar. Kerry's response? He nodded, smiled, and said "Yeah, that's headphone shit..." Keep rocking to Fates Warning!

  • Fates Warning Kicks Ass

  • Puro talento!

  • One of the all-time metal masterpieces/music&lyrics-10

  • If you like Fates Warning, check out Crimson Glory. They've got some great songs. Dream Dancer is one of them.

  • @jcdenton7 ye man 'transendence' is a great album :)

  • @joshmattg CG's first two recordings are definitely classics..RIP Midnight..

  • When I first heard Dream Theater on the radio (Pull me Under) I was fuck yeah John Arch is back with a killer band. I was wrong but when i bought the album the sleeve says they worked with him. I like James a lot but John is the shit

  • @sarys73, I'm not sure how you could possibly think James Labrie could be John Arch. They sound nothing alike, but Dream Theater DID really want John Arch to join the band as their second vocalist. He auditioned, but turned it down because of personal reasons (time, etc) and they hired James Labrie.

  • @sarys73 I am so confused! To put it bluntly, I think John Arch's voice is horrible. However so many people love it and I want to hear what they hear. LaBrie is my second favorite vocalist ever and I hear no similarity. Please explain why so many like him so much.

  • Awesome! One of the best songs ever in Metal Music. John Arch is truly brilliant. I loved his new 2 song demo.

  • Imagine Your Queen...Take her, she's Yours!

John Arch, simply the best vocalist and lyricist! \m/

  • What can i say..Words fail..This is one of the greatest songs ever written..John Arches vocal capability is unrivalled...!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Talent never dies it grows arch/ matheos as good a pairing as I've ever heard I havent stopped marveling over the efforts of this album for 23 years and still jam to it weekly such a sraight forward display of sheer will and power, all bands would be better if they set their standards as high as fates warning.

  • i was turned on this band when i was 13 and i got to say john arch opend my eyes to what metal was. everything about this band is so unique. John is by far my favorite singer by far! his voice at the end of epitaph was just utterly amazing. i wish he was still around.

  • The vocals on this song are truly something to be marvelled. John Arch is a truly gifted individual. Shame more people don't know about him.

  • Amazing, after all these years this never gets old.

  • Excellent ! A really genius album from one of the

    best metal - bands.

  • Unbelievable melodies ..

  • Unbelievable so fucking good. The level of this album is so high, every time a listen to these tracks I wonder how on earth it was possible to be able to produce such an epic album.

  • Amazing....just amazing.

    Best singer / lyricsist EVER.

    John Arch is the BEST.

  • Arch's vocal arrangements were unbelievable. Genius, in my opinion.

  • I like this singer better than the other one. Great track by the way. Thanks for posting.

  • Not thrash at all. There are some power metal overtones because of the "Dungeons and Dragons" fantasy themes, but this is progressive metal by definition, because of the technicality, odd time signatures, and the obvious RUSH and Watchtower influences. Dream Theater tries to be Fates Warning so bad! But FATES WARNING RULES!

  • "METAL BLADE" 4 be more precise, my friend....I invite U to listen "the best of Metal Blade Vol. 1 & 2" U'll find other fucking great bands like this.

  • I doubt Fates Warning was influenced by Watchtower, man. Their first album came out before Watchtower's.

  • You are right in the sense that Night on Brokken was released before Watchtower's 1st album, but Watchtower are recognized as the godfathers of Technical metal, so they were influencing their contemporaries. Bands that are contemporaries of each other sight each other as influences all the time. Watchtower's influence on FW was something FW said in an interview in Power Metal magazine, in probably 88 (Ray Alder, No Exit era)... I didn't make it up. You certainly know your dates though.

  • Nope

This particular album is US progressive-power..

  • its not at al a combination of hardcore punk one bit. thrash metal is Hardcore with Heavy Metal.

  • I went through a lot of things with this album. Alot of great memories! thanks

  • If you don't like this song, someone's dad should touch you inappropriotely.

  • They were great with Arch!

  • seven! thats how many fingers i have. but now i have 4 because of a tragic accident =(. it happened right now. my mom cut them off with a bike

  • This was the last of the great FW releases. When John left, the band never recovered. Ray just isn't in John's class. They went from thunder to a light spring rainstorm. How sad.

  • yes john arch is the man no exit was good but siren voice after a few songs just kept screetchin my ears like fingernails on a chalkboard john arch has more of a storyteller slash opera song style perfect for the awesome musical shifts thruought the songs

  • THIS IS HEAVY EPIC METAL with progressive indfluences.

  • No modern band comes close to this. They fade all current power metal.

  • They're not power metal, and it's not a melody, it's a harmony.

  • Don't tell your daddy what power metal is. I was going to Fates Warning shows when you were 3.

  • Er, correction, two years before you were born.

Power metal was kind of a larger genre back then than what it's considered to be now. It was kind of taken over by happy crappy bands like Dragonforce. I don't know what you'd call Fates if not powermetal-- they aren't thrash, they certainly aren't death metal.

Maybe doom metal, really, but there I go again with the old-style definitions...

  • It's progressive metal, I think time has eroded your memory.

  • no, there wasn't such a thing as prog metal in 1986-87.

  • That has to be the most ignorant thing you've ever said, which is surprising.

Queensryche, Majesty (Dream Theater), and Fates Warning, there's 3 PROG METAL bands off the top of my head.

  • Nah, the term just didn't exist back then...

  • It did ;)

  • No, it didn't.

Fates Waring were the top US power band at the John Arch era.

  • Comment removed

  • Nope, classic Prog Metal.

  • This song really showcases the vocal genius of John Arch.

  • The intro twin guitar melody is one of my favorite moments on the whole album.

  • Great song! Never heard until today but I always liked the No Exit album...underrated band

  • check out Valley of the Dolls, and also Spectre Within. Some amazing shit on both of those.

  • arch = best of the best

  • My Fav of all time... Long live Fates Warning- Long live John Arch

  • thank you for posting the video again

  • lo mejor vendria en los albunes posteriores...

sin embrago no deja de ser un clasico del heavy metal... fates warning... uno de esos grupitos que realmente merecieron mas atencion

  • wow. haha. lol
