@m173627 not exactly, the tram is a completely different system. It's usually lighter then the subway and build above ground. While most trams can ride on a subway rail, the other way around is impossible. During the "Great American Streetcar Scandal" most of the trams in US and Canada ware removed, but there are few exceptions like Boston, New Orleans, Newark, etc. Toronto have the largest one in North America. If you want to see an a good example look at the "The Portland Streetcar system".
