Wow, I've heard of tubing being blown out of the well, but I never thought it would come out like spaghetti!! There was a significant explosion hazard with this blowout too. Thanks for the video and not running further away ... you'd make a great CNN combat cameraman!
also, replacing the packers on BOPs is nothing. I personally can bring 1 in, open it up (blind flanges and all), clean it out, replace all the elastomers, and put it all back together in 1.5 hours. it's not that hard to do.. thats for a typical double cameron. can do a shaffer a little faster than that
we set up a demo for BP to test the shear rams on a 13 5/8 15M double cameron and it cut through 5 inch pipe like nothing, so they do work, but that WAS with no pressure going through also
@btownmxer actually I'm 28, be 29 next month and started right out of high school. Dnt always believe everything you read and also if you do use the rams to shear pipe it's small as hell and you would have to replace rams after each shear, well the rubber part anyways but that's why they are tested with a test plug and no pipe in the hole so I dnt know how or why they do things the way you say wherever your from.
@btownmxer so by testing them u put pipe in and shear it off. I dnt think so. Just caus something is suppose to do it doesnt mean it does. Also i work for a bop torq and test company and doing it 10 years and never seen blind rams shear a pipe in half but i have seen them crush it. Also smallest pipe we use in Texas to drill with is 4 1/2".
@joshb202007 yes we put pipe in the blinds and shear them...and if it doesnt work then it fails to do the job it was entailed to do. Its called a shear and seal. The seal is what counts not so much the shear. You are 25 and you have been doing it for 10 years?
@btownmxer #1 they probably dont have a bop installed, see it all the time and #2 if you think shear (Blind) rams actually do what they are suppose to you dont know much. I havent ran into a set yet that actually will shear the pipe unless your offshore with a 21 1/4 stack. Trust me, jack ass worms close them all the time on shit and nothing happens. They are just there to say they are there.
@joshb202007 shit. we own 2 pullers andtest our blinds once a quarter and they will shear 2 7/8 all day long lol. I would find another company to work for if I were you haha
wtf there isnt anyone at the base of the rig trying to close the bop fucking retarded rag heads all the spagetti looking stuff is 2 and seven eights inch tubing...i used to haul the shit
Hey guy I don't mean to offend you, and the video was couragiously taken, but when you have a blow out, get the hell out of dodge. any spark can ignight the gas, and strapnal can come at you.
where is your B.O.P?,i m working on workover rig and snuberr workover unit and we have 7 B,O,P,,,we have 2 same shit in 2 years but hole is safely closed,,
the well blew for 4 days pumping out hot oil and steam. the solution came when several contracting companies used cement trucks and extra vac trucks to pump heavy mud and loose material in threw a choke into the well and pinched the tubing and began to outrun the well. creating high pressures. once the well was beginning to calm they cemented the well and closed it off and cut the tubing down from the derek.
im using my lil bros account but, in 2008 or 2009 i was on a chevron lease in california when nabors 392 a work over rig that took a kick while trippin pipe back into the well. the rig had been loosing circulation all day and finally got circulation back when they weighted up to 22 pound mud. but a hour or two they took the kick and closed the bag and the well blew thru the tubing and which pushed the tubing into a support girt in the derek. where it lodged itself and blew high pressure steam
There was one that unloaded over around Franklin, Texas a year or more ago. Killed one of the guys sitting in his pickup. Pipe came right thru the window. It's amazing to watch it but very dangerous. Looks like spaghetti!!
this happened to me once. but the pipe never went around the blocks wasnt as much pressure as the vid either. we set the blocks on a bucket on that we slipped over the pipe when it started blowing. almost lost my arm in that adventure. made a huge mess too. not fun atall.
crazy shit did the rams fail?...looks like you could have used a snubbing unit, always wondered what it would look like glad ive never seen it snubbing yet!
Im a snubbing supervisor and Im pretty sure these guys are idiots and never have seen a fire?!?! one spark all it takes AND there is a flare back there!! maybe they should have been on the floor when the tubing started coming out and then they would known better to be so close...
Someone said 4" tubing.... more than likely it was 2 7/8 tubing. If the pipe was salvaged it would more than likely used as structural pipe or used in some junk well. Wait till you see several thousand feet of pipe come see you.
Just assuming that is 4" pipe in 30' sections weighing a few hundred pounds per joint. Shit is noodled or turned into spaghetti. Believe it or not they buy it up real cheap, straighten it out and sell it back to the producers. Nice vid, you are a crazy son of a bitch!
