@D1NWO I always go back to DAoC... still play :) Also I know it's not really the same, but check out Guild Wars 2 World v World v World. They have a "frontier" map where 3 "factions" (In this case each faction is a server!) duke it out over a 4 map area. 1 map for each server start, and a nuetral to be capture map in the middle. There are keeps, castles and objectives all up for the taking and to be claimed by your guild. There's quite a bit of chatter about gw2 "rvr" shaping up nicely :)

Listen EQ Fanbois, all games take elements from their predecessors. It's not ripping off it's simply goriwing and improving the world of mmo's. EQ was primarily pve and DAOC was good pve and legendary pvp. Hardly a ripoff thx.

Hib was the realm I started on and the realm I will remain on, I don't mind trying out alb and mid but I love my bard too much to abandon her, along side my enchantress :)

The PvP is massive and exceptionally fun/balanced.
there is a freeshard private server called uthgard for this game now.Check it out if you dont have the money to pay monthly..... you could also try out Minions of Mirth :)

This game has the most unique sense of us vs them..in this case unlike the crap at the store, 3 realms of us vs them. Each culture has it's complete own world from 1-50 (like a different mmo per culture if you think of it that way)...each pvp experience matters not for gear but for actual skill point (realm points) that you can earn and use to permanently boost your abilities. Each kingdom has a massive frontier of castles, towers, bridges..etc. Riding a ship across the Irish Sea atm.../salud

@Rohkus Its nothing to do with the complexity of it. I had it worked out in less time it took to go through that painfully drawn out tutorial. The game is boring on account of the fact you don't actually progress in your abilities while logged in. Everything is researched when your in bed. Whats the point? space combat consists of you clicking about 18 buttons to even initiate a dog fight and even then its just taking pot shots at each other 'til someone hits. I find that slow and boring.

I never said these games are bad, I have a friend that plays Dark age of Camelot hardcore...it must be a good game. The learning curves isn't high for those kind of games though; that's why so many people play them. That's just my option though. Google EVE learning curve and click that image chart to see what I mean.

Lol, a lot of people are responding to me but there is one thing that I wanna tell you all, World of Warcraft's pvp is NOT balanced 1 vs 1. I've played the game for years and the truth is shadow priests and holy paladins usually kill all classes. Also warriors are really getting it hard since there ability charge can be avoided because of server lagg.

@gloalath dude there are bigger fights than 70 v 70 some nights.. i was in a keep on my hunter last week for about 40 mins straight fighting albs and got 414 kills

So sad. This game had things about it...ill probably never have a game experience like daoc ever again. Not even the company that made it can duplicate the feel. It was truly the greatest pvp mmo ever. No other game has managed to top it in that area.
@undeadguy2 the servers have NOT be condensed to one, alot of them have. They will keep the game going as long as the cost to keep it up and going is < how much profit they are making from the game. Not gonna happen. Population has risen by quite a bit in the last 6 months let alone a year.
@DoctorCataclysm I stopped playing again in August. Albs outnumber everyone, Mids are 2nd, and Hibs are the underdogs. I like to be the underdog so I'll only play hib now.. When I go back when I get the time, I'll be on my vamp, champ, and warden mainly :)
@DoctorCataclysm It's good, servers have been combined into one server cluster. You can transfer your 50's for free. Non stop action 24/7 in RvR. Arti's/ MLs are farmable. Thid/ Molvik are hopping pretty much 24/7 as well.
@Ozzie2368 its not dead at all imo.. still cant solo very much on a visible class because you'll get steamrolled unless you completely dodge busy zones or run spd6.. ywain has had more players than the old servers. they had to raise the server caps and make them more stable with higher numbers logged in. good for decent smallmans/groups and there are multiple zergs roaming most nights. think alb runs 2 seperate zergs most nights but i avoid that :P
i love DAOC --my husband used to play it all of the time and he'd get so absorbed inro the game he'd not eat drink or sleep and he'd l;iterally lose days ....that"s when you know you have a good game going !

50 is the level cap and it's really easy to get there. As for which class to pick, go with whatever you think will be fun. Casters and archers are good levelers as they don't really need gear as much as a tank does. I'd stay away from assassins and pure healers (druid for example) as they are pretty slow levelers.
Google "daoc charplan" and download it to get info on all classes, specs, sub-spec and more.
how long does it take to level up? and im gonna google that thing in a sec. I play a level 80 holy paladin healer.. so do you think i would like to heal?

The games combat/casting system is vastly different from WoW, which scares a lot of people away, but there is no game around that has the depth and complexity to the combat daoc has.
Balancing is also deffirent, they do it on a group/realm level rather than 1v1. A healer for example will almost certainly die to pretty much anything in 1v1, but they are still considered one of the most powerfull classes in the game because of their grp abilities
@ipwnnn00bs4life Everyone and their mother needs a healer so you'd be able to join groups really fast. It's not the same as WoW as you can be powerleveled and never really have to do a single quest. You can cap out within a week if you're a casual player and have a good group. My old guild used to do powerleveling sessions in the weekends and we all got a few cap guys just for fun.

@ipwnnn00bs4life DAOC is fairly easier to level now then it was back in 2001-2004ish. The game really kicks off at 50th (max level) anyway. Casual play maybe 2 weeks to get to 50th, and yes to the experienced players there's ways to get 50 in 1-3 days. (PoC etc) Damn good game, just wish it was more populated.
@aricain The game is now very populated! now after EA took over daoc they went slow with it at first then BAM were getting updates left and right!! we got 2 new versions in like a month! when the servers got switched everyone came back!!
@acynnon Then you should check out Guild Wars 2. They're doing World vs World vs World very reminiscent of DAOC. Three Worlds (servers) are matched against each other in a week-long PvP event with castle sieges and supply lines and everything. It's gonna be awesome.

@acynnon agreed, i just don't want to go back and have the same old issues that have been around forever XD i'd like it if changing ranks in a guild didn't involve 50 / commands. i'd like it if lag wasn't the deciding factor in a wizard's duel, i'd like if even being looked at didn't completely shut down every caster... but i'd probably wait for a remake, but i would most likely give it another serious shot if they just updated the engine and graphics a bunch.
@edwinshap1 Completely understand, if EA knows what's right they'll get Mythic working on a DAOC II at some point, I love the game to much to not go back to it at some point haha.. there's justing nothing that is as fun as good ol' RvR and relic raids.
If there's a time to come back it's now guys. Ywain cluster is going strong and they are soon allowing euro accounts to transfer to US. It's awesome. They even have to up the pop cap on the cluster now as it's been hitting max all christmas.

Yes. Get it. I tried the 14-day-trial and got toally hooked. It's the best MMO I looked at when picking, and I only looked at the supposed best ones. It's challenging, amazing, addictive.
smcgrath14, I haven't tried Darkfall. I briefly sampled WoW (seemed way too easy and kind of cartoony; apologies to fans, personal taste), Age of Conan, Runescape, and a handful of other free ones; but I missed Darkfall. I take it it's good? I'll check it out. Tho' I think DAoC will keep me busy. There's so much to keep trying to master, when you start RvRing. Talk about a game with depth. And this is really my first roleplaying game and first MMORPG. (I play MMOFPSs but those aren't the same.)
They are merging all the US servers into one (except mordred and Gaheris). There will be about 3000-3500 players online during primetime not including the people who will return for this.
Then there's the mystical "Phase 3", which is belived to be the release of a new server, Origins.
No he didn't. The server merge will happend withing a month. There's very little know about origins and they havn't given us anything official, but they have hinted that they are working on it.

@MrMurq there isn't any buggy movement in the game server side ..... what you are seeing is 150+ people fighting in live real time battles
some people's machines might lag because of the large amount of action that is taking place .... but the game isn't normally laggy

So sad. This game had things about it...ill probably never have a game experience like daoc ever again. Not even the company that made it can duplicate the feel. It was truly the greatest pvp mmo ever. No other game has managed to top it in that area.

@undeadguy2 the servers have NOT be condensed to one, alot of them have. They will keep the game going as long as the cost to keep it up and going is < how much profit they are making from the game. Not gonna happen. Population has risen by quite a bit in the last 6 months let alone a year.

@DoctorCataclysm I stopped playing again in August. Albs outnumber everyone, Mids are 2nd, and Hibs are the underdogs. I like to be the underdog so I'll only play hib now.. When I go back when I get the time, I'll be on my vamp, champ, and warden mainly :)

@DoctorCataclysm It's good, servers have been combined into one server cluster. You can transfer your 50's for free. Non stop action 24/7 in RvR. Arti's/ MLs are farmable. Thid/ Molvik are hopping pretty much 24/7 as well.

@Ozzie2368 its not dead at all imo.. still cant solo very much on a visible class because you'll get steamrolled unless you completely dodge busy zones or run spd6.. ywain has had more players than the old servers. they had to raise the server caps and make them more stable with higher numbers logged in. good for decent smallmans/groups and there are multiple zergs roaming most nights. think alb runs 2 seperate zergs most nights but i avoid that :P

i love DAOC --my husband used to play it all of the time and he'd get so absorbed inro the game he'd not eat drink or sleep and he'd l;iterally lose days ....that"s when you know you have a good game going !

50 is the level cap and it's really easy to get there. As for which class to pick, go with whatever you think will be fun. Casters and archers are good levelers as they don't really need gear as much as a tank does. I'd stay away from assassins and pure healers (druid for example) as they are pretty slow levelers.
Google "daoc charplan" and download it to get info on all classes, specs, sub-spec and more.

Kind of slow with the response, sorry about that.
The games combat/casting system is vastly different from WoW, which scares a lot of people away, but there is no game around that has the depth and complexity to the combat daoc has.
Balancing is also deffirent, they do it on a group/realm level rather than 1v1. A healer for example will almost certainly die to pretty much anything in 1v1, but they are still considered one of the most powerfull classes in the game because of their grp abilities

@ipwnnn00bs4life Everyone and their mother needs a healer so you'd be able to join groups really fast. It's not the same as WoW as you can be powerleveled and never really have to do a single quest. You can cap out within a week if you're a casual player and have a good group. My old guild used to do powerleveling sessions in the weekends and we all got a few cap guys just for fun.

@ipwnnn00bs4life DAOC is fairly easier to level now then it was back in 2001-2004ish. The game really kicks off at 50th (max level) anyway. Casual play maybe 2 weeks to get to 50th, and yes to the experienced players there's ways to get 50 in 1-3 days. (PoC etc) Damn good game, just wish it was more populated.

@aricain The game is now very populated! now after EA took over daoc they went slow with it at first then BAM were getting updates left and right!! we got 2 new versions in like a month! when the servers got switched everyone came back!!

@acynnon Then you should check out Guild Wars 2. They're doing World vs World vs World very reminiscent of DAOC. Three Worlds (servers) are matched against each other in a week-long PvP event with castle sieges and supply lines and everything. It's gonna be awesome.

@acynnon agreed, i just don't want to go back and have the same old issues that have been around forever XD i'd like it if changing ranks in a guild didn't involve 50 / commands. i'd like it if lag wasn't the deciding factor in a wizard's duel, i'd like if even being looked at didn't completely shut down every caster... but i'd probably wait for a remake, but i would most likely give it another serious shot if they just updated the engine and graphics a bunch.

If there's a time to come back it's now guys. Ywain cluster is going strong and they are soon allowing euro accounts to transfer to US. It's awesome. They even have to up the pop cap on the cluster now as it's been hitting max all christmas.

Is there a bundle for US too? I've only ever heard of EU.
DAoC is currently only alive in US (there are somewhat populated EU servers, but then you'd have to play the game in either german or french.
DAoC is definately worth trying, but i strongly recommend playing on the US servers.

Yes. Get it. I tried the 14-day-trial and got toally hooked. It's the best MMO I looked at when picking, and I only looked at the supposed best ones. It's challenging, amazing, addictive.

I briefly sampled WoW (seemed way too easy and kind of cartoony; apologies to fans, personal taste), Age of Conan, Runescape, and a handful of other free ones; but I missed Darkfall. I take it it's good? I'll check it out. Tho' I think DAoC will keep me busy. There's so much to keep trying to master, when you start RvRing. Talk about a game with depth. And this is really my first roleplaying game and first MMORPG. (I play MMOFPSs but those aren't the same.)

They are merging all the US servers into one (except mordred and Gaheris). There will be about 3000-3500 players online during primetime not including the people who will return for this.
Then there's the mystical "Phase 3", which is belived to be the release of a new server, Origins.

No he didn't. The server merge will happend withing a month. There's very little know about origins and they havn't given us anything official, but they have hinted that they are working on it.

DAOC is still one of the best MMORPG to ever be made. It's far superior to Warhammer, because it's not funneled content and more open-ended.
Plus, the battles and tactics are what makes the game. Somethign Mythic forget when making Warhammer.
