  • Great movie, it's so.... real.

  • From what I can understand: "Oh, porch, my porch, my new porch, New porch, entry made with maple strips. Impossible, not to go happy around here and not accompanying my best friend. The maid goes out from the new gate, of new strips of varnished cedar wood. Rise your right arm and let the falcon fly, fly away my bird to the far away skyline! Glide as hight as you can, my winged friend, until you get away from the beautiful homeland. Fly, fly my love, high and far! If some1 could confirm...
  • Senny has no translation into english sorry

  • Marvelous film.Great Bondarcuk!

  • @9911aleksey, no I don't

  • @9911aleksey, no I have never heard about that.

  • the Russians sure know how to sing. Their language makes the song sound perfect.

  • Real name of this song is "Ah Vy, Seni, Moi Seni". You can find it in Wikipedia.

  • Nice example of friendship of these two great nations.I wish it could be possible today...

  • By the way, you can find this song if you search IN-BATTLE MARCHING SONGS in google. Should be the first link.

It's a forum for modifying the game: Total War, it seems like. Someone modified the game with songs for the appropriate armies, it looks like. Pretty cool.

The file should play with VLC.

  • This song is completely awesome.

  • LONG LIVE AUSTRIA AND RUSSIA

  • I am completely "druged" with this song and video.Great work.

  • One of the best emotional scenes in this epic movie.

  • Great scene and song.

  • However, russians were not singing after the battle of Austerlitz

They (and the austrians) took a hell of a beating!

  • Bonaparte didn't like this video.

  • people ask why do and did Russians sing in such an epic manner well?, here these men are hundreds of miles away from home in the army for 25 years and may be killed, and practically slaves when they return home.

  • @nounever What means "practically slaves when they return home"? This is not about WWII, you know.

  • @GreenBaldrick you clearly have no understanding of Russian history society was considered good by all those young after world war 2, the Russians were 50% serfs from 1456 to 1863.

  • @nounever Well there's were slaves (not serfs, but slaves - two different things) untul 1865 in the USA, Russian Empire is not the only country of that kind. By the way, you clearly have no understanding of Russian mentality. They were singing like that not because of those things you talking about, but because of their deep patriotism. Serfs, workers, nobles...it does not matter. Read Tolstoy to get it, not some history textbook.

  • Does anyone here know where I can find this song?

  • was russia the good huys back then in those days?

  • @NaziZombiefan82

    Yepp! Like in 1914 and 1941 :-D

They broke the back of Napoleons armies wich led to uprisings in Prussia and finally to the victory of the allied armies of Russia, Austria and Prussia in the battle of Leipzig.

  • @NaziZombiefan82

I would say russia were the bad guys along with all the other allied nations seeing as napoleon even though he was a dictator was fighting for liberty, equality and fraternity while the rest were fighting for the status quo. That is to keep the peasants at the feet of the nobilty and maintain there privileges. Russia stayed that way up to the 1917 revolution even though some may argue that that wasnt really an improvement but a step backwards.

  • @falcon1702

How can a dictator fight for liberty?

How can somebody who betrayed the republic and declared himself emperor be the good guy?

  • so in the war movies are most of them war re-enactments?

  • Beautiful and strong!

  • thats some good morale before a slaughter O_O

  • @whoa92341 its not morale.. its morale..

  • This song/march is mind-bendingly awesome!

  • Beautifull!!! Really beautifull!!!! I'm currently reading the book. :)

  • Another variant of translation for "seni" - mud room.

    shade is absolutely wrong

  • yes. I know that tsudechkis. My intention was only ask you precisely what you have said. what is the sense of the song, because I don' know the russian language and I think that this song is very very beautiful and maybe historic too. But as you have answered me. I don't have more questions.

As a note: I'm south american and my native languaje is spanish. I'm not from the US if you think that I'm from USA. I only use english for comment here.

  • Seny doesn't mean shade. Seny is a part of a house which is between the porch and the inside. It is a shady and cool part of the house, but the Russian word for 'shade' is ten, while Seny just means that part of the house.

  • Russians always make good marching songs and choirs.

    Hail to these glorious people.

  • damn russians are great march singers

  • Well, it DOES mean an "entrance hall", but it emphasizes more on that it's a new one and made of maple (кленовые) wood. Apparently not wholly, but the outer woodwork and carving. I can try and translate all the lyrics for you, if you like. Let me know.

  • by the this film has got an Oskar - the first Soviet film that has got it

  • Please try to get this version of War and Peace by S. Bondarchuk in your native language - and you'll understand that sense of the novel is another.

  • to

jeandemetz2009. I'm sorry to say, but you would understand the sense of this, if you read the War and Peace by L. Tolstoy - it doesn't matter a battle - it's state of soldier's mind and soul before a battle - before the probably death. You've asked to translated into English - but I can't. Something like this:

Eh, ye outer entrance hall ("seni"), outer entrance hall of mine, new outer entrance hall , maple (outer entrance hall), lattice (outer entrance hall)..

  • well, he he, I haven't read the more info section of the video post, the lyrics in english are there. thanks!!!thanks shanmugamlakshmanan! now I can translate to my language spanish! :)

  • why the soldier at 0:42 to 0:45 see the sky a bit surprised or a bit stressed? well, I think that he can supose that the weather can make that batlle execute bad for friendlies and russians. I don't know if i'm right. Any people in youtube can say me why he (the soldier) see the sky at 0:52? I'll thank it.

  • I think the soldier looking up at the sky is supposed to represent the good mood of the scene. The Russian army is clearly eager to get into the fight and the patriotic singing and high morale of the officers and men clearly shows that. Maybe the soldier never realized the simple beauty of the sky until that point, or never appreciated it's simplicity. He could be reflecting his fate, who knows. But I think overall it was meant to convey a message of happiness and maybe innocense.

  • Yes, I think this is a good interpretation of the scene. I believe, it's also about homesickness - just before this scene the soldiers were talking about how far they are from the Russian Empire - one said something like: "There are not even Poles around anymore, only Germans" (Austrians, of course, but for a common Russian soldier not easy to hold appart an also not realy important).

  • Also, the lines they are singing during the sky shot are about letting a falcon fly to the home place, and we got a voice singled out, singin the phrase "to the home place". Maybe, looking up to the sky, the soldier hopes his song will reach his home and family, so they will know he is still fine. Not an uncommon Russian theme - in the song "Katyusha" we've got it the other way around - the girl's song should fly following the sun and reach the soldier on the border, telling him about her love.

  • I think he's just panting. It's a very demanding song.

  • please, i wanna know wat means the song in english. para luego tarducirla al español. anybody know the meaning of whole song in english? well, I'm latin but knowing the song i'll can traduce to spanish, but I don't know russian but english yes. if any people know it, please post it in youtube soon, i'll thank your attention.

  • 1.04 VIva Austrians ! Viva Russians, Viva the whole World!

  • beautiful song it goes right in to the heart

  • Ah vy, seni, moi seni, seni novye moi,

    Seni novye, klenovye, reshjotchatye

Ty leti, leti, sokolik, vysoko i daleko.

Ty leti, leti, sokolik, vysoko i daleko,

I vysoko, i daleko, na rodimu storonu.

  • Does anyone have the lyrics in Russian, but with Roman letters?

  • the name of the song in english is Ah, you of Shade, mine of Shade

  • senny means shade? thanks, i always wondered what it meant

  • Uhm no, seni means actually the "income of a house".

  • he is right you know.

  • @shanmugamlakshmanan Senny means 'entrance of a home', a sort of hall before you enter your house.

  • @shanmugamlakshmanan Seni means "inner porch".

  • @tipitjo Sad to say, but you seem to be wrong. The only meaning of word shade I know is "place, where direct sunlight is blocked" plus some more meanings (mentioned in Webster). Shades in Russian sounds like Teni (plural from Tenj - shadow). This song is about Seni (hall(way), inner porch, outer entrance hall) - a small room at the entrance to wooden house in the country to store heavy winter clothes, boots, instruments. It's main goal is to prevent cold air get into the living room in winter.

  • @tipitjo Since most soldiers were recruited from villages, it was natural for them to sing about country life. The fact of building new "seni" meant, that peasant's house will be warm in winter, and, generally, that his family is faring well. The task of building new home or repairing old one was performed by a man together with his neighbors and his sons (if any). So any finished improvement symbolized good relations in family and with neighbors. A positive accomplishment from any angle ).

  • @tipitjo WRONG!!!

  • Whatever you may say about Russians, love them, or not... but you got to admitt, Russians are born choir-singers.

  • Beautiful movers aswell

  • @YuriPRIME We-e-eeeell... Good choir singers are scarce, even among the Russians. But good artists, poets, writers and not least - fighters are many to be found among us. We are not a nation of singers, we are a nation of warriors, believe it or not... Hard to believe it these days, I know. Yet so it proves to be.

  • @YuriPRIME Choir singers Funny dances and vodka is what russia is all about

  • @YuriPRIME

Who hates Russians? Fags hate Russians!

  • Where did you get the widecreen version of this film?

  • Wonderful song. Here is the lyrics in Russian. I can translate it but I'm afraid the very meaning will be lost.
  • The lyrics are quite work. I'm sorry.

  • Does anyone have the lyrics to this wonderful piece?

  • My Russian senny comes out of the new gate. A brand gate of lattice work.

She holds a falcon on her sleeve and lets it fly into the sky; higher and higher.

Fly to the sun little falcon.

    (Or something like that.

My Russian is not that good.

    Sorry)
