  • I believe these vessels fished the Doggerbank in the North sea at this time. My Grandfathers name is on the War memorial at Tower Hill, London (he was a Naval reservist Sweeping Mines 1914-1919 and had not long left the Service) An Admiralty report into the loss at the time was very brief 'Lost possibly mined' I suppose with the dreadful loss of Lives caused by the war just ended this was a very minor incident in the scheme of things.

  • Hi, I don't have any info for wrecks that far south, however looking at the charts there are hundreds of wrecks on Dogger bank. You could look at 'Larn, Richard; Larn, Bridget. Shipwreck index of the British Isles', which may give an approximate postion. Another route would be to speak to Scarborough BSAC / or Gordon Wadsworth (dive skipper of Jane R). As this is their 'patch' they will have a lot more resources for the ships in the area. Hope that helps. Good luck with the search.

  • Thanks Graeme- She was one of 3 ships lost around that time at the port of Hull (in Yorkshire) on the East Coast of England in very bad weather late 1919 to Jan 1920. All I know is that 'Amber' was built in Glasgow 1898 and belonged to the Kingston Steam Fishing Co.

  • A long shot-my Grandfather , Henry Hannah, was Skipper of the Hull Trawler 'Amber'. The ship was lost with all hands around Christmas 1920, in the North sea. Interested if anyone has located this wreck.

  • Hi Pitcairn,

I've had a quick look through the books I have, but have nothing about an wreck called 'Amber' lost in 1920. Was this lost off the English coast? Any more info?
