  • She gives it her own spin, and it's terriffic, but I still prefer Elaine Stritch on the Sondheim 80th Birthday concert. I've seen it sung by so many different people including Dolores Gray and Eartha Kitt, and it's amazing how what is essentially a repetitive, almost patter, song can be done so differently.

  • she was 55 here. my fucking god, what legs!!!

  • She is a really good actress. But what I don't understand is why Sony allows this bit from the movie but not the one of Meryl Streep signing at the end of the movie. I have listened to that at leat a dozen times, had it in my favorites even. But just now I clicked on it and they said Sony objected and pulled it because of trademark laws.

  • amazing actress, amazing performance, amazing LEGS.

  • they are making a movie version of the broadway show follies....the should use her!

  • @Wyath20 Are they using any of the broadway cast members?!

  • If I were in charge, I would've changed the lyrics. It fit the character & made for a better movie.

  • I love this movie - Shirley MacLaine is spectacular in this scene! Amazing talent.

  • Bobby she should've got the nom ination and in my opinion won the Oscar. She looked fabulous in the role

  • Thank you Steve, for changing the lyrics to support the movie.

  • 1 formidablode a la vi. magnifik.

  • This is the self serving version of the song courtesy of the Trifecta Mutual Admiration (they meet on Tuesday nights) Society of Mike Nichols - Tommy Tune and Shirley Maclaine. Pitiful.

  • Wow. What a performance!

  • This is the theme songs for all those rapture nuts on 05/21/11

  • Knowing Shirley, when they play this at her funeral, she'll pop up out of the coffin.

  • @AdArmand LOL!!!!! I hope I'm around to see that!!!! Too awesome!

  • I hated this crummy movie and Streeps crappy performance. You could never buy them as mother and daughter. Not for a moment.

  • Who's playing Piano?

  • @jjj29871 Looks like Michael Feinstein, maybe not

  • @jjj29871 - Scott Frankel is playing the piano. Sixteen or so years after this film, he wrote the music for the musical GREY GARDENS. GG was nominated for Ten TONY Awards and won three of them. There's another great YT video with Scott accompanying Donna Murphy in "Hit Me With a Hot Note".

  • @theBestArts -Just saw the Donna Murphy video "Hit Me with a Hot Note" That was so good! Thanks for the information!

  • Cher needs to record this song.

  • Brilliant Performance, it is after all MS SHIRLEY MACLAINE

  • Shirley great film actress, can't say the same for her live performances tho, where she was a poor mans Mitzi Gaynor

  • robbed of her second oscar. not even nominated and she stole the movie. ouch !

  • Is there an unedited version of this? Savvy viewers can see there are I think 2 edits within the song. . . and btw the pianist is the composer of the brilliant "Grey Gardens" score.

  • I love what Carrie Fisher says about this scene: First, that contrary to popular belief she and her mother never had sing offs at parties, because "My mother would bury me." Second, Liza Minnelli called Carrie to say that this WAS her life with her mother growing up.

  • Legs!

  • The legendary Shirley Maclaine, one of rare singing performances, absolutely Brilliant!!!

  • That's a memorable performance, simply great! Ms. MacLaine is a superb actress, showing here what's she's capable of. And her legs!!!

  • Best rendition of the song! MacLaine and Streep are legends!

  • no.4 on my list of memorable music moments on film.....

  • Who would even consider Debbie Reynolds when watching Shirley???

  • Well Sondheim rewrote the lyrics so I guess that's kinda ok, no? lol and it sure as hell beats the rewrite he did for Barbara Streisand's version.

  • Well Sondheim rewrote the lyrics so I guess that's kinda ok, no? lol

  • Shirley really owned this number in the movie (and it's a hell of a number to own :) ) Makes you wonder - wouldn't it be gravy if Debbie Reynolds sang it one day?

  • I forgot how good that was! Great performance.

  • See was brilliant in this.... I love when she sings this.... and when she tells Meryl.... "IT TWIRLED UP" .... LOL I LOVE THIS MOVIE.... thanks for putting this clip on here... It makes me smile every time I watch it

  • Flawless rendition from Shirl!!

  • i think Shirley is the best.

    she encompases everything.

Saw her 2 times live performing and she is magical.

  • AWESOME . THX FOR THIS SO MUCH.

  • I love this. Shirley has always had such a wonderful, commanding presence. Of course she's still here, ShirleyMac is timeless! Visit her website at shirleymaclaine. com, because sometimes, not only is she here, she is there.... which commands more presence, than being neither here, nor there! ;-)

  • umm question, why was Shirley nominated for this? Because this performance is great!

  • @toplaycool21 *wasn't

  • Saw this movie on HBO today. Musical stars of the past really have commanding presence when they perform. Kids like those in Glee who aspire to do the same have a lot to learn from these masters.

  • "Lord knows at least I was there, and I'm here!" Gotta love MacLaine & Sondheim.

  • Funny how the old lady sucks all the focus off the kid's birthday. Not that I'm bitter or anything.

  • From the 1990 great movie Postcards from the Edge.

  • Love the bit in the movie where Streep is 'telling her off' about bin drunk and her skirt twirled up...an Shirly screams "it TWIRLED up!!!!" an Streep says: "Yes mother...but you weren't wearing any UNDERWEAR" PMSL!!!!Brilliant performance rom both of em...as is always given if hiring these actresses!!

  • @TheMrMarilyn LOL trust u to love that scene...

  • This is MY LIFE STORY!!!! I am STILL HERE AFTER IT ALL!!!!

  • @mtfune Iss EVERYONE'S 'story' babes,LoL!!Thass WHY iss so fab...people can 'ree-LATE'!!X!!

  • lol she reminds of evelyn harper in that one episode of two and a half men.

  • Yeah I agree... even if Shirley isn't nominated I think She should win an award for this....

  • I just bought this movie again. and i sent off for the book by carrie fisher. can't wait to read it. her new book wishful drinking is great.

  • Maybe its just me, but i *hate* when the lyrics to this song are changed. Not a comment on Shirley, who I think is AMAZING. I just can't enjoy the song when I feel it's been tampered with. :-/

  • @Splurge24 Oh get over yaself luv!!

  • @Splurge24 I agree. Shirley MacLaine did a fantastic job, but I don't see why someone felt the need to change the lyrics of the song.

  • @Splurge24 The lyrics were rewritten to better suit the storyline of the movie. If Stephen Sondheim didn't get upset neither should you.

  • @0732jamie Why am I not allowed to dislike it just because Stephen Sondheim ok'd this?

  • i looooove maclaine since i watched terms of endearments, i was nine :p.

  • Classic Shirely MacLaine! She's simply BRILLIANT!

  • Shirley MacLaine. Doesn't get much better.

  • Shirley MacLaine great in this movie. For those of us who know some of the inside stuff: Shirley's role was based loosely on Debbie Reynolds, and Ms Streep's loosely on Carrie Fisher.. Mike Nichols directed he great cast. The House used for the sets is the home of Connie Stevens who was Ms. Fisher's former Stepmother.

Connie wanted to star as Honey in Virginia Woolf but Nichols would not even let Her. Connie charged a Queens Ransom for Nichols to use Her House. Ah revenge is sweet.

  • @ToughXArmy69 hey dud, Carrie Fisher wrote the script...

  • What a star

  • having a tough time right now, this makes me feel better

    I am STILL here!

  • I Am Still Here!

Lol i love this Part shes Sooooo Cool

    I LOVE MERYL!!

    Postcards is my fav <3

  • Can't remember the last time i saw someone sing this long a number live in a film.

  • best part of the movie, by far!

  • Sensational. Loved the movie. Do people still make charming movies like this anymore?

  • the combination of MacLaine and Streep is terrific and the film will keep you entertained even if, like in my case, will leave you with a toxic aftertaste. see the full movie at BigOnlineMovies . c o m

  • Superb, beyond words...

  • Loved this movie, both MacLaine and Streep were brilliant. Maclaine's always had good legs, but to think she was already in her 50's when she did this movie.

  • @CF1975 Shirley was 56 here, Meryl was 41

  • @CF1975 in her 50s, sweetie, is not old...you just have to pay attention to your body.

  • I personally do not think being in your

50's is old, but there are of lot of people who do not look that good at that age. You are right that those people most of the time do not see their appearance as a priority.

  • Such a great movie. Such a great performance.

  • Shirley is good but Scott Frankel is amazing - love his piano playng - any music of him playing available?

  • Amazing perfromance.....

Quite possibly my next drag routine.......

  • I loved this movie, and this was one of the highlights of that whole flick. Brava, Shirley!

  • She's really a good actress <3 Love her :D

  • Scott Frankel, the young pianist here, has had an amazing Broadway career. Most recently he wrote the music for "Grey Gardens," which was nominated for ten and won three Tony Awards.

  • And which should have won all ten. *grins*

  • I took this performance for granted when I first saw it. Now, years and many other versions later, I have to say it's the best of this song i've ever seen. The vocals aren't always spot-on, but the emotional range, the movement, the life she brings is unbeatable.

  • i loved Shirley in this! And meryl was magnificent as usual!!! they made a good pair!!! especially that scene where they sing, on right after the other!

  • Shirley should have gotten a Best Supporting Actress Oscar® nomination for that performance. It is definitely one of her best. Agreed?

  • She should've gotten the bloody Oscar for those three minutes!! The lady is banger!

  • @BobbyRiversTV

Oh hell yeah - Not even nominated?? Shoulda won. Something wrong there.

  • @bgdjohnny8

oh please, ur surprise? oscar is shit right now. for exemple? maybe, streep case?

please 16 niminations, she deserved to won to many times.

  • @BobbyRiversTV

you beat me to the post...i was going to say the same thing...she was definitely snubbed that year by Oscar...a real shame, too!

  • @BobbyRiversTV

    defo

    great movie

  • @BobbyRiversTV

It was all about Meryl singing I guess is why....Meryl Meryl Meryl

  • @BobbyRiversTV she should have won it.

  • Shirley MacLaine ist the BEST! No matter what she does, it´s overwhelming!

  • What a HELL of a performance! You go, MacLaine!

And Meryl Streep looks absolutely BEAUTIFUL here, as always.

  • RIP Bea, you will be missed!!

  • shes one of my fav actresses evr!!!! meryl streep rockx!!!

  • The lyrics were changed by Sondheim specially for this film.

  • where's Shirley Oscar nom?!

  • i'm with you...she deserved best supporting actress oscar nomination for this one! 'the skirt TWRILLED!' should have sealed it alone.

  • shirley maclain is the best!!!

  • Happy Birthday Shirley!!! She is so great.

    I love her!!!!

  • i love 2:20

  • 0.49 my fav part ^^

    I´m still here ! *sing*

i love shirley in this film!

meryl is as gorgous as always!

  • I love this song because it shows that Meryl's character really does love her mother, even though Meryl has put her through hell.

  • I love this scene. One of my favorites.

  • What an absolutely arrogant and pointlessly derogatory critique,of a awesome performer!!Shirley has been a consistently brilliant actress and performer since Jesus was a child!!What is with all the "mid 50's back of the chorus voice etc." bollox!!?!!And,just exactly DO you 'judge' a voice??To me,having a 'good voice' equates to being able to 'hold' an audience whilst 'holding' the written melody line and 'putting over' the lyrics!!She does all that AND in CHARACTER as well!!Asinine twat...

  • For me, this was the highpoint of the film. It's also one of the best realized performances of this song that I've heard. Thanks for posting!.

  • M, Streep, a real AMERICAN WOMAN,,,, watch 2:42-2:51... GOOD, NO?

  • Comment removed

  • piu bellissimo!!!!!!!!

  • 1. that is scott frankel of 'grey gardens' fame at the piano

    2. this scene was edited for the film. they should rerelease the film with the entire song!

  • That's very funny - I was just planning to add the same comment about Scott Frankel, the composer of "Grey Gardens".

  • It is the best musical of the 21st century. :)

Do you know if the full "I'm Still Here" was ever posted here?

  • The song reminds of us all of how we manage to overcome all the stuff life throws at us.

I am older now and I understand what the song means.

To make it through the tough stuff and be strong about it.

Shirley Thanks for the great song about never giving up and hanging in there.

  • My very favorite Shirley McLaine Song. It gets no better than this.

  • The lady has got some niiiiice legs! DAMN!

  • "Darn right you are!"

  • Great performance... one of the best parts from one of my very favourite movies

  • How I love this. I think of it during the worst of times: "Lord knows at least I was there, and I'm here." Nobody can take away from you what you've had the strength to survive. Thanks Shirley!

  • I wish I wasn't.

  • Shirley MacLaine's still here, and she's a real STAR ***** fantastic :)

  • Really liked Shirley in this film :-)

  • WONDERFULL

  • I wonder if Debbie Reynolds ever commented on Shirley portraying her?

  • I was wondering the same thing.

  • that makes the two of us

  • Love it!!!

  • The last of the true Hollywood stars.

Miss Mcclaine reminds us how great hollywood was.

They earned their stripes the hard way on talent not singing half naked on a stage in only a thong.

The new supposed stars need some lessons in how to sing, dance, and act.

Sure couldn't hurt any could it?

Thanks For the video what a great song.

  • Thanks For The AWESOME Posting!
