Great Big 10-SEC matchup! Excluding kentucky from this argument, this set the stage for the years to come for the SEC. It is and will always be a Football Conference, but this brought new light and almost a new game style that was brought to College Basketball. Donovan did a great job with this team. One thing I would like everyone to look up is how good Udonis Haslem did in this game. He played a major role in this transition for the SEC also.
I hated Michigan State. Syracuse should have beaten them that year. They were up by 19 on them in the second half of their third round game and blew it. Syracuse could have made the Final Four that year, and maybe the title game because Wisconsin wasn't that great. They probably would have beaten Florida that year.
You have to give this young Florida team credit for making it this far. But on this night, they were simply playing a team on another level. A lot of people have probably forgotten MSU's Elite Eight game against Iowa St. that year. In my mind, that was the REAL national title game. Had that ISU team beaten MSU (and they gave us a HELL of a scare), I think they would have gone all the way. I know ISU doesn't exactly scream basketball powerhouse, but trust me, that team was VERY good.
@bzurvalec I agree, no doubt in my mind ISU would have won it all. They had Jamal Tinsley and Marcus Fizer. They had a span from about 99-01 where they owned the Big 12. Not the case now.
@SpartyFan1213 Yeah, there's always a few teams like that. It's kind of weird. They're a POWERHOUSE for a little 2-3 year spurt and then they just kind of disappear and we never really hear from them again. Other examples off the top of my head might include UNLV in the early '90s and Arkansas and UMass in the mid 90s.
@bzurvalec well UNLV went to at least 1 Final Four in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, but I agree on the other teams you mentioned for sure. Nowadays you could throw Memphis in there.
@driver8train yeah we were playing a better team "this time" lol but it was an accomplishment for us just to get there. Until that point we'd never been to the championship game and history shows that a first timer's chances against a veteran team who's been there before are slim.
I remember being so mad because I thought Michigan St had been given Cincinnati's #1 seed after Kenyon Martin was hurt in CUSA tourney....and MSU had lost to Wright St I think earlier in the season
This year had 2 #8 seeds (North Carolina and Wisconsin), a #5 seed, and a #1 seed. Who would ever guess there would be more #8's than #1's in the final four.
Both years sucked. Neither one provided a decent semi final game or a title game. It was lopsided in every contest. At least the 2007 one had talent. 2000 was horrendous. Two 8s, a 5 seed, and a 1 seed?
thats carma right there. they beat that team by double digits and 9 years later they get beat in the championship by double digits. just like last year my highschool team beat another highschool their senior night and this year they beat us on senior night
You people should focus on the game. Mateen played an AWESOME GAME!!!! Gators worked hard to get here, no one is giving them credit. But I have to hand it to Tom Izzo, Because he does a great job teaching those players! One of my favorite players of all time from MSU, Is a player by the name of, Shannon Brown. The kid had hops! Look him up, you'll be pleased
@tomahawk266 Yeah dude I couldn't agree more, for us, it was aweosme just to be competing for the national crown that year, but yeah MSU was certainly the better team and deserved to win.

not to hate on anybody, BUT the funniest shit EVER was when Cleaves went down, SCREAM-CRIED like a little MIKED-UP bitch on national tv (thank you, CBS!) to his mama in the stands, "MAMAHHH!", changed his face INSTANTLY out of his cry to say all baby-like "IT'S BWOKE!", in front of the whole damn world, just before commercial break!
STFU, "dude!" What WE get is that YOU have FIVE posts on THIS video, and that you're a little too "THEN-tha-thive" from worshipping at the alter of your scrub boyfriend Cleaves.
do u not see a litte tar heel emblem everytime you see that i comment on here? and even if i was a spartan fan msu is kicking mayland's ass. your life is pointless.
The starters were Cleaves Peterson Bell Granger and Hutson. I'm not sure of everyone that was a bench player but I know that Richardson, Anagonye, Balenger and Chappelle came off the bench but there obviously was more than just them guys but thats all I know for sure.
he went and played 6 years in the nba and played over seas in russia and somewhere else i think and he just got an offer from china to go and play this year
wow look at donovan, he looks like he should be out there playing! Now he's an experienced coach, I loved these gators, brett nelson, udonis haslem, justin hamilton, brent wright, donell harvey, teddy dupay, mike miller.
1:27 Teddy Dupay CLEARLY kicks Mateen Cleaves ankle trying to take him out of the game! Dupay was a dirty player at Florida. No wonder he got in trouble and turned out to be a flake!
I won't try and back up Dupay, he wasn't the best person in the world, but you can't say that he tried to hurt cleaves right there, it was just an awkward fall for cleaves.
i wouldn't say he tried to "hurt" cleaves, but i will say that he intentionally tried to trip or do something involving a dirty play. i don't blame him, Mateen caught him with an elbow when he starts the layup, so he was just trying to trip him or something. either way, it was dirty and now he's a rapist. take that for what it's worth
woh! back the fuck up Boris? Piotr? Vladimir? Zdzislaw? Krasimir? Sergei? Oleg? and that's only if you're blessed 2 have a unique name with meaning...LMAO!
You could tell back then that Dupay was a thug. He clearly swept his foot to trip Cleaves. Just think of the injustice if that jerk one an NCAA championship.
