Ever heard of the parable of the golden coins?? (Luke 19:11-28) The Bible clearly supports us making the most with what we have and using our God-given gifts the best we can to better our fellow man. The discouragement of usury (not really lending & interest) you are referring to was to basically call out the "pawn shops" and "Quick Loans" of Jesus's day and specifically the masses of merchants who ripped off faithful Jews at the Temple (see John 2:13-16) as was practice.

The nobles were exploiting the people, forcing them to sell their homes and children. By law, the children could be released every 7 years through the remission of debts. But the people were poor and coulud not "buy back" their enslaved children. They had to borrow to pay their taxes, and they were exhausted from hard labor and constant harrassment by their enemies.
@thanatos101b Therefore, Neh. 5:11 is not so much about Old Law Statutes as it is about rebuking the nobles to show pity and mercy on their subjects whom they had exploited, enslaved, and taxed to death in a way perhaps worse than the heathen Gentile invaders had only a few years before. Anyway, Christians can be of any non atheistic ideology, Christianity aviods issues of politics and economics. Socialist governments, even non communist ones, have often been historically vehemently anti-religious (Islam, Confucanism, Christianity, Buddhism).

As for me I think absolute morality dictates that no human being should be denied food, shelter, or healthcare and government can remedy these problems.Why can't the government be used for "social leveling", when conservatives have no problem using it to enforce restrictions on drug use and sexual preference. For me at least I'd rather have the government ensure the poor have proper health-care than deal with people's sex lives.

Most liberals believe in absolute truth and moral law (not as many conservatives), which is why issues like gay rights are part of liberal beliefs. I couldn't find any quotes about faith based association, but I think he might have had the idea of an American Theocracy but that was the 1960s; most people were very christian and religious (and conservative) back then.

Ever heard of the parable of the golden coins?? (Luke 19:11-28) The Bible clearly supports us making the most with what we have and using our God-given gifts the best we can to better our fellow man. The discouragement of usury (not really lending & interest) you are referring to was to basically call out the "pawn shops" and "Quick Loans" of Jesus's day and specifically the masses of merchants who ripped off faithful Jews at the Temple (see John 2:13-16) as was practice.

Speaking of Jesus, you learned completely the wrong thing from that passage, but also in Luke is Luke 3:11 which explicitly forbids you from consumption of more than the basest essentials. Look! I can proof text too! No one can be both a capitalist and Christian, something they knew when capitalism was first proposed.

That doesn't mean its wrong to have more than the basics but we need to remember that we are stewards of God's posessions, ergo, make an effort to be generous as God would and show mercy and compassion to those that are less fortunate. When ya look big picture wer're here for only 80 years or so, therefore, we should strive to live for Him & not get selfish.

@thanatos101b Your Nehemiah verse needs to be looked at in context. Duing Nehemiah's day Israel had fallen on tough times. The nobles were exploiting the people, forcing them to sell their homes and children. By law, the children could be released every 7 years through the remission of debts. But the people were poor and coulud not "buy back" their enslaved children. They had to borrow to pay their taxes, and they were exhausted from hard labor and constant harrassment by their enemies.

At least a THIRD of liberals must be Christian then. This is assuming all non Christians are liberal (which is of course not the cause). Most neo-con libertarians are radical atheists anyway (Objectvists, Anarcho-Caps, Mises-libertarians) so you cut that down.

Anyway, Christians can be of any non atheistic ideology, Christianity aviods issues of politics and economics. Socialist governments, even non communist ones, have often been historically vehemently anti-religious (Islam, Confucanism, Christianity, Buddhism).

Why is abortion sinful? The embryo isn't a living organism until after 2 months in the womb, at which time it becomes a fetus and the abortion won't be performed. Science has proven this. As for me I think absolute morality dictates that no human being should be denied food, shelter, or healthcare and government can remedy these problems.Why can't the government be used for "social leveling", when conservatives have no problem using it to enforce restrictions on drug use and sexual preference. For me at least I'd rather have the government ensure the poor have proper health-care than deal with people's sex lives.

These guys are great. More truth here than you will ever get from P-dity or a B.O.B. get out the vote concert. You know what the difference is between young conservatives and young liberals? Liberals hope to get the youth vote based on lies or just because a rapper told them to go vote. Conservatives hope their young voters go out and educate themselves as to why and what they are voting for. This is why some people tend to become more conservative as they get older.
