As a teen, I played this song (as a 45 record) until the grooves were totally worn out...remembering those innocent days...thanks for the memories...I sometimes want them back.
@pattiamarie - Hopefully you have this and those tunes in digital format --- or else we should all be thankful for youtube, eh? Wonder what will happen to all these when the posters and postees no longer roam the planet? Hope they stick around for subsequent generations to laugh about or enjoy...
@colonyjr LOL I dunno....undying gratitude for one of the BEST songs ever? Been hearing it literally all my life, my older sister had the 45. Earned the money it cost by babysitting for me! : - )
Thank you for continuing to entertain us, it goes deeper than dedication. Your voices are ageless, and singing with your songs to my children and grand children is pleasurable.
What a song!! This song and band brings out many different feelings everytime I listen to it. The music from the 60's was very special. Often imitated but not duplicated.
Wow, I just spoke to Lou Volpano two days ago after not hearing from in 25 years! The I was watching this and scanning the comments and saw his name. How crazy is that?
aimeemannfan2010 --- if you scroll down the page a bit, you will see the answer to your question from when you originally asked it. Happy Easter (soon) and thanks for the kind words...
Thank you, Hitch0403; that tune is on here a bunch of places too and maybe I'll find a version by the current band to add to youtube one of these days...
Ronnie continues to perform as a solo artist instead of being with the band. We have joined each other onstage now and again over the years, but performing is "merely" a passionate avocation for those in NC6 today, but for RR, it's his livelihood. We both respect the way things have to be so as to not jeopardize his solo career.
Are these all the original members? Where and when was this held? This song and "things I'd like to say", are two of my favorite songs. Great performance!!
Don't ever stop performing. Would love to see them perform.
To clarify... The band as in this clip has now been together into its 22nd year; the last 14 of those has featured the exact same line-up but for one personnel change.1st change in founders <2 yrs. Having said that, I (intro speaker) am the only one who was there the day we started this adventure (1964), though two others in the crew were with us in the late '60s/early '70s. Glad you like this; hope my being sole founder doesn't diminish your enjoyment. Vid was shot 8-06 in Addison, IL. Peace!
We've talked before Jr. but I cannot tell you what wonderful memories this song brings back to me, it's as close to "going back" as I'll ever come. Thank you so very much for being a part of my life. Reg
Been five months since I last thanked everybody who commented prior, so I guess this is my semi-annual reply. Feeling the same tugging at my heart over your kind words gang; they really warm this still-Chicagoan on a day when the temp may well not reach 20F. Peace to all and a better 2010 for each of us and ours, Ray
Ray,thanks for one of the GREATEST songs of the sixties, and of my youth.!! I grew up in nothern Indiana, but WLS and WCFL always came in great in our area.I really enjoyed this vid, too.!! You guys still got it.!!! I enjoy playing along to this one on my guitar a lot . Thanks -G.L.54
Ray, I was about 15 when I heard this song for the 1st time. Between midnight & 2A.M. I could sometimes pick up a Chicago radio station (can't remember which one) and that's where I heard it first.
I knew I had to have the record, but the stations back here in Vt. hadn't started to play it yet, so I had to order it special from our local Western Auto store (hard to believe huh)! It's my fav. song ever, no kidding. Just wanted to say thank you. Have a Happy New Year.
colonyjr, had to come by for another trip down memory lane, you guys were/are so great, thanks so much for being part of my life, i will never forget you. Reg
The kind murmur of this song brings back the pulsating intoxication of my high school youth - and my first girlfriend - at that time - in a small working class jersey town. We'd walk to the Brook Theatre Friday nights, then head home, diverting through the cemetery down to the river, where we'd lay and roll around in the fragrant jersey (yes jersey) spring, the grass soft, this song on the tinny transister.. She's childless in Lousville; I'm broke in the northeast, with three great kids.
Thanks to all of you more recent commentators. I don't get here enough to respond individually but just want each of you to know how you continue to raise a smile to my face every time I read your comments! Peace to all who loved and still love our music... Ray
Wow! After all this time the Six still have it! Love this song, always did, always will. New Colony Six played at Reavis High School when I was there - my first "rock concert." It was great growing up in Chicago with the music of these guys, the Bucks and the Cryan Shames on WLS and CFL. Life was good....
I am very impressed with this performance and pleased to see so much energy and life 40 years later! I live in New Hampshire and this song impacted the charts and my life while I was in high school. I always felt the New Colony Six to be one of the most polished groups in pop/rock music history!
Wow. I've never heard a live version. What a tight performance, even after all these years. It brings tears to my eyes.
I always thought if I ever got married (I'm gay) I'd like this song played at my wedding. Barring that, I would also date any of the handsome men in this group! LOL
Hey williestarman, check out "Things I'd Like to Say". It'd suck for a wedding (lol) but it's an amazing song. I'd love to see a live version of it, as well.
There's something about the chording and vocals of this group that has never been duplicated and I'm glad I grew up where they ruled.
With the advent of sites like youtube, you'll never have to worry about scratches again! Thanks for appreciating the record ~40 years ago; glad you enjoy the "geezers" live performance even today. We may look older but I still feel 20-something and isn't that most important? Hugs to you and your mom...
Gosh it is so good to find you, this song has always meant so much to me. Me and my first "girlfriend" loved and cried to this song. I am so thankful for you guys, I've been in the business for 40 years myself and these old standards just bring tears to my eyes, where is music today? bless you. Reg
And we return the thanks many times over, Reg. As to the music today --- it's another generation and a very different time, so for me, the music is on the classic rock or "Oldies" channels. Or I just drop in one of the seven CDs that have been released compiling our recordings... Maybe some day I'll graduate to an iPod! ;o)
Mom and I used to play this song all the time till the 45 got scratched. I haven't heard it in years. I still love it! I know that the group is older now but I know mom will still want to see what they look like.. Thank you for posting it! Now that I know where to come to listen to it I'm sure I will wear this one out too! :)
We probably played as many dates in Wisconsin as we did in our home state "in the day" and did do both the WI State Fair and Summerfest a few years ago, but have not been back in a while. Get active on an entertainment committee or petition those in charge (How about Ho Chunk or Potawatomi?) and bring us back - we'd love to make the trip north this summer. Thank you for the compliments; we appreciate your 40+ years of support!
Both of my daughters went to CMSU, just up the road apiece, so had you written a few years ago, we could have met halfway for lunch and stories from "in the day". Thanks for the support all these years - hope your weekend is terrific!

Thanks for the upload! I remember hearing "Things I'd Like To Say" and this song twenty six years ago on a Dick Bartley show and fell in love with the song! Six years afterward I managed to find the reissue 45 single on Collectables records [I still have this BTW]. In 1993 Rhino Records issued "Colonization: The Best of the New Colony Six" and I've become an even bigger fan. I heard "Come And Give Your Love To Me" and "Hold Me With Your Eyes". I then bought "Treat Her Groovy!" Great stuff!
You ought to secure some of our earlier garage rock - the pre-ballad stuff, just to compare our two distinct eras. Perhaps you can land a copy of the Sundazed release, "At The River's Edge". By the way, that Rhino CD sells at a premium on eBay so hang on to it...
Sounds better than the 45 rpm records! The New Colony Six had some of the most memorable songs of all time on Top40 radio. I heard "I Would Never Lie To You" on XM the other day, and came here looking for whatever I could find of the New Colony Six. Great to see the group still playing!!
You must have the new CD compilation, "Sides" right? What do you think of the collection? As to video on MFOTM, I know of none - but between youtube and myspace if something exists, it will eventually show up...
