  • This is the old RMS Aquitania, Grand Old Lady of the Atlantic so often called in her latter years. She was the LAST ship to have four funnels built on a ship. There hasn't been a ship like her since her demise at the ship breakers back in 1950!

  • Other than the part showing Aquitania sinking, which, thank God never happened, this was some fine, rare video footage of the "Grand Old Lady".

  • the rms aquitania is cool ship.and what is that in 1:17 thats funny if that is MINE

  • Aquitania is The Ship Beautiful. I love Aquitania.

  • bring back the old liners, ships were more than a travel necessity in those days they had souls

  • The Aquitania was scrapped in 1950, it never sunk.

  • what was 2:58 all about? what ship was that. It wasn't Titanic because of the B and C deck configurations.

  • See the begon it says Aqutania.

  • it is RMS Aquitania

  • @alexxxxxx23 oh, thanks

  • I find that Aquitaine was a magnificent ship, with these forms inspired by the Olympic and Mauritania.

At 1:31 the alarm comes from the movie "The Poseidon Adventure (1972)" when the vessel will enter into collision with the wave ?

    nice video ! :) ★ ★ ★ ★ ★

  • Yes

  • The lifeboats lowering down at 2:03 is a errie reminder of Titanic.

  • love the salon music!!! I salonisti is great!!

  • Great how you can get all those images!!! :D

  • I used wax 2.0 to make you think she was sinking. (just slice the video, keep the sea where it is, and rotate the top part)

  • did you use wax to make the coloring and sweeping effect too??!! :o I'm interested!!!

  • I used Fraps to capture just one frame. I then colorized that frame with Paint Shop Pro. Then I put it behind the b&w video in Wax, and merged the two (made the b&w video 50% transparent) so the colour shows through.

  • and how did you do the sewwping effect thing??!! :O

  • Don't you hate these copyright things? They totally distract from the videos!

  • WTF?!?!?!!?!?!?! The Aquitania never sank? but still cool.

  • Unfourtunaltley the Ship Beautiful RMS Aquitania was scraped in 1950.... :( :(

  • what ws ut that sank?

  • The ship beautiful

  • Aaron

the ship you sank was the AQUITANIA!!!!!

  • nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Very good!

    Continue like that!

    Your portuguese friend

  • What a magnificent video, as always. I've never seen footage of a lifeboat drill about Aquitania before and this was tremendous. I love the way you colorised certain portions and how you created the illusion of her going down. I'd love to know ho you did that and also loved the Southampton footage of the new Queen Victoria in your other new video. I didn't get the view you did of her, so salute your diligence yet again.

  • lovely cruises like this dont exist anymore..now its like disneyland cruises, with lavish buffets and waterslides and loud obnoxious families. ah, the good old days, when cruises were romantic travails to far off lands. minus the tourists.

  • This is a liner, not a cruise ship. Cruise ships were painted white, black hull always a liner.

  • Actually the difference of a liner and a cruiise ship wasnt in the paint. It was in the construction and design. The queen victoria is painted like an ocean liner, but she is a cruise ship.

  • A cruise-ship is like a taxi. It goes from stop to stop, making short trips. An ocean-liner is like a coach. It makes long haul trips that last for days.

  • Partially true. Cruise ships sometimes make positioning cruises that are like crossings, doesn't make them ocean liners.

  • Well my explanation was always how I understood the difference. Is there any other?

  • Liners are supposed to have high speed, most cruise ships can barely do 22 knots. A liner has to have a buttoned up superstructure, cruise ships have exposed. Liners have long bow decks unlike cruise ships whos bow decks are short. Liners have lifeboats high above the water line, cruise ships lifeboats are placed low. Liners have deep draft unlike cruise ships whos drafts are quite low. Finally a liner must have a finely shaped hull instead of an apartment block w/ a bow and stern attached.

  • Haha! Nicely explained, Phoenix. Thanks! I agree, a key part of a liner's classification is that it has to have a high speed. What's the deal with the lifeboat placement?

  • Thank you. Because liners sail in rougher seas than cruise ships, the lifeboats have to be higher up to protect them from damage during rough weather.

  • @phoenix1985 That explains why liners were beautiful.Present day cruise ship look like they have a hormonal imbalance.

  • @exeuroweenie Exactly. They have no shape, no style. Just blocks with a bow and stern stuck on.

  • @mrsbrown333 I love going to Disneyland, which is why nobody can understand why I won't go on one of their cruises. The thing is, all I would able to think about would be the great ocean liners from back in the day and how beautiful and majestic they were; a beautiful floating palace compared to a floating amusement park. As much as I love Disney, I'd rather sail on the Olympic or another great vessel.

  • Aaron, was that you getting into the lifeboat with the womem+children?

  • Brilliant

  • She is the Aquitania. Why you make it Lusitania?

  • 100% BEST VIDEO EVER

  • What a amusing film to watch.

  • why do you say that?

  • Because we see a beautiful ship that means a fictional disaster. You don't see films like this aymore for this ship.
