Love the nose bleed ........... bowie waz the man ! ..no one can beat him as a changer he was not keeping up with time but time was trying to keep up with him !
There is no comparison to/with the music nowadays. Really sad. This kind of music comes from heaven. A simple guy with a very straight mind, like Lennon and McCartney. All geniusses in their profession. Far ahead from us. I wonder where IQ comes in.
i cannot belive how prophetic this man is- the imagery and contents are so ahead of the time of our current political state- it is weird how always ahead of the times he is! oh and he is beautiful, that goes w/out saying!
Of course, David Bowie's belief in aliens wasn't confined to aliens he also believed that there were leprechauns that lived near his chicken ranch just off the coast of Austria where he lived with granddad and a snowman (who later melted). No-one was ever able to get to grips with how he knew of the aliens but then that was a different story for sure and for real
David Bowie is as beautiful as he is talented. A shinning star from an alien world where their music sounds like this all the time......I would like to visit that world.
As sexy as this man is, he consistently dances like a trying-to-be-hip uncle at a family party after one sherry too many...bless you, David. Love this song.
@juniperandlamplight Oh dear god... sexy? David Bowie? He is the strangest looking man on the planet... he was especially weird looking when he was younger. I can't think of many other people as strange looking. I don't count Michael Jackson because his weird looks weren't a natural occurrence like David Bowie's.
Well, as a matter of fact, he did make some songs for The man Who Fell To Earth score. Like I know that the song TVC15 ( from the Station To Station album ) was originaly intended for that movie. Remember that scene where he's watching all those TV screens and going mad ( "Get out of my mind,.. all of you !!!! ) ? ..it was suposed to be played during THAT particular scene.
999AiKurai, that's not possible. The Man Who Fell To Earth went out circa 1976, and this came out in about 1987. Also, this song isn't about aliens at all. It's about religious friction.
Great song. I don't know if Bowie was/is an atheist, but he sure sounds like one here. I understand these lyrics as a statement against the stupidity of religious fanatism. And well, judging from a musician's standpoint, the album from which this song came (Tonight) is a great one. Just listem to the brilliant drumming of Omar Hakim... wow.
Well the man certainly isn't conventionaly religious ( he was raised as an Anglican I'm aware ), but he has stated, in recent interviews, that he beleives in a kind of universal divinity. He's more of an agnostic I supose.
I'd also pute Cat People ( "Puting out the fire with gasoline",... the movie score version ) among his better 80's tunes. As for entire albums, Young Americans, Let's Dance, Tonight and the Laberynth sound-track are my personal LEAST favorites,.. but still, even they had a FEW good tracks.
But THIS is one of his better songs of this era. Many people are realy prejudiced toward bowies 80's period, and I supose that most of it was'nt very good, but he could still write a good song on occasion.
As for the theme, I think it's a coment on deism and spiritualism, and about having ardent passions for things which are mysterious, unearthly, unknown and unfathomable, like God and the supernatural and so forth.
By "loving the alien," he didn't imply love of extra terrestrials (as a few confused fans seem to think). He meant the enjoyment of things that are different, unusual, out of the ordinary, strange, etcetera. DAMN I love Bowie's style.
it's so easy to love the alien, hope the alien is divine, better, but each of us is as divine as the alien. Only maybe some alien knows it better. Why did the universe made us from space dust? Why did the stars fuse hydrogen to create our bodies and minds? It wasn't a mistake... We came from the the aliens before the last time our sun blew up but even the alien doesn't know why.
Thats a nice intro to David Bowie, there groovemaster---you are a good teacher-------know before you praise or criticize----its good to see a post that encourages getting the facts.
If any of you are fascinated by David Bowie, I would encourage you to read the Wikipedia biography on his life. I am a huge fan of his work and was absolutely astonished to learn how little I actually knew about him. He is a very interesting person to learn about; the old adage of life immitating art or art reflecting life comes to mind. He is truely an insperational artist and a timeless innovator.
I'm only 19. I've never been around when this was released. But looking at this and listening to the lyrics. He's on track with how people are with religion. It's excellent.
Even though I can't relate to the lyrics and am not agnostic like Bowie (he's agnostic, right?), I find this song incredibly interesting. I think we can all agree that it's 50,000,000 times better than the mindless drivel that's produced these days.
It's become a cliche to say Bowie's always a step ahead of the times, but this was made in the mid-eighties and look at the prominence the struggle between the modern "Crusaders" and "Saracens" has achieved. It's an age-old conflict, sure, but how many other bands in the 80s were writing songs about the Middle East instead of about Russia?
Plus it's a great song and a good slap-down to all forms of religion. Worshiping some "alien" entity you don't even know exists or understand. Bowie ftw.
I like how some people throughout these comments criticize others for liking Bowie and not being around in the 80's. What the hell I'm 18 and I love him who cares.
completely agree, im 18 also and bowie's longevity only emphasises how great and relevant an artist he still is and will be.
I do think that bowie fans which were around during his hayday would have a completely diff relationship with him as fan but us young fans only lust over
Now don't get me wrong, I love Bowie, usually Scarey Monsters and pre, but with this I make the exception, too much make up here, and beleive me I was a teenager in the 80's, so I get the fashion, but really he looks like a big girlie (his former life one wonders) but does anyone else find his mis matched eyes and scrappy teeth really sexy?
Yes.. I always loved his so-called mis-matched eyes, it's like cat eyes! And I have always loved his 'scrappy' teeth, in fact, I was a bit disappointed when he fixed them..!
Dude,in the 70s he wore more make-up than that.like a POUND of eye shadow,glitter lipstick,the WORKS!!&THIS is too much??doesn't matter,Bowie can do it all!
Well actualy, Shamagogue, it may interest you to know that Bowie HAS, beleive it or not, done a few cowboy type songs,..namely Eight Line Poem ( on Hunky Dory ), It Ain't Easy ( Ziggy Stardust ) and Janine ( Space Oddity ). Howeer, he realy does'nt work for THAT particular kinde of music ( most English singers dont ),..he even comes off as pretty funny whenever he's attempted it,..so THATS one musical style which he just does'nt do very often.
Damn this brings back memories... I worshipped Bowie growing up had all his albums and tried so hard to be the perfect androgen like he was.. I even died my hair the same orange gold color he wore in Man who fell to earth.
Completely intriguing song. Witty, artful, meaningful presentation. Shows such appreciation/insight for historical, cultural factors. To me he is saying something about rigid beliefs which cannot abide those of others. Also, how beliefs can get distorted over time. What begins as a legitimate spiritual practise devolves into hollow ritual, perhaps? Also thinking that you are "loving the alien" when you want to convert or exploit them. I dunno . . just some thoughts.
I think he is talking about annunaki bloodlines.. And worshipping the denizens of Nibiru.. I always thought Bowie had a completely other-worldly quality about him with that one green eye and one brown eye, which, it is claimed happened when he was a teenager and got beaten up...
I am 23 and I LOVE this song. As well as many others by Bowie. He has such an abundance of creativity. All of those corporate whores from the capitalist gang bang below, they don't realize that their little pop fantasy stars TRY BUT NEVER ACHIEVE what Bowie did a thousand times over.
LOL! The power of the AnR douchebag, the sad fact is without a market system men like bowie would never be able to create because the central bureaucracy would never green light his work. At least in the market economy, a capitalist pig with a sense of adventure might invest in producing Bowie' work (which apparently some Bourgeois scum actually did, o the irony)
We all live by the monetary system. That doesn't mean society can not exist without it. Creativity created it after all. The central bureaucracy is not necessary to create art. In fact, it inevitably hinders it. Bowie lives in the system you and I live in. This does not necessarily diminish him.
his songs are so full of emotion... I want more songs like this one! (From this time, I mean... I mean, I want the new songs to sound like these songs, lol)
Woooow. Sounds oddly like Oingo Boingo, this one does. Bowie is a bit of a freak sometimes - but then and again, if he wasn't, he wouldn't be the Goblin King.
hmmm...o.k. then,i'll have him in winter and spring and you could have him summer and autumn,or i'll have his left hand side and you his right hand side-is this amenable for you, must be off i've got to cook his supper(fish tonight)
When there is a kingdom you must have a KING, but many kingdoms lost their HEIR, and the next in-line was next born, but what if they are deposed or step down in some cases the wife ascends if she is WORTHY into that rightful place upseting the male world.
If ONLY Citizens knew how our ancestors play in our lives YOU ALL would CRY TEARS OF JOY like NO ONE could E>V>E>R NEVER ~EVER dare to know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When there is a kingdom you must have a KING, but many kingdoms lost their HEIR, and the next in-line was next born, but what if they are deposed or step down in some cases the wife ascends if she is WORTHY into that rightful place upseting the male world.
I can only think of a gr. auntie of mine named:
Cunigunde

Becareful not to call a one a fool, or anything the like, because you just do NOT know WHO they are...
They could be an embassador from ANOTHER GALAXY, and they just tried to connect with YOU.

When you take the time to love the Alien you realize it is not just a visitation, but a portal to another understanding and realm.
Who is an Alien, those whom have lived next door for years and you only just now have noticed to ask them where are they were from.
Where are the visitors when they leave? Have they left anything untouched behind?

This song has gotten stronger with time. I remember not liking it very much when it was released in April 1985, but now I really like it. Funny.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
Even though Bowie is queer, I still like his music.
napone0 3 years ago
He is married for the second time, so I don't know about queer. But if he were, why should you care?
ivankaramasov 3 years ago 2
Never said I did
napone0 3 years ago
He was never 'queer'. Bisexual at a very big stretch. Read any of his biographies, it's rather interesting.
cease2xist2 3 years ago 2
Yeah, I heard he had a relationship with Jagger. I don't get that, it's not like he needed the money. Anyway, Bowie rocks.
napone0 3 years ago
It was the way you put it that made it seem like you did care...

as such a sad thought deep in your eyes
a kind of dream actor without many lines
within your eyes I'll put the earth within your eyes
as the stain fades you makes no sense to watch much any thrill has gone and fun wasn't that at all
but I'll write dreams for you
as one world falls down

LOL. I somehow think you have the words wrong to As The World Falls Down.
