Perhaps with a smaller bike it would be about same.
Pilot is 80 % (if he can use the bike)
These bikes are monsters to 98% people so people mustn't think it is a good way to have these bike.
I don't know if this man could be faster with a 'smaller' bike... He choose 500-2 that's all.
But I repeat if you don't know, don't use a 500-2t, you will not win because you have this bike. These bikes may give you big surprises, not good surprises
@abinadvd THX for pointing out "choice". In your context - That's indeed it. However, both comments indicate the main point of this comparison has been missed - namely to compare two particular (some of my favorites) 2-T 500's, and to better visualize that not only the slightly better accelerating KX but to major extent its surprizingly better handling contributes to the better lap times over the CR as already indicated in the clip caption.....
Nice vid - the side by side split gives a really different and interesting perspective. I might have to steal your idea and edit some up the same. Thanks man!
@hobo35388 Not true, but it is true that Honda hates 2 strokers. They were hell bent on making a 500 four stroke compete in grand prix, (look up the NRV) but then they ended up making a hellacious stroker, the NSR 500. As far as motoXgoes, they had good years and bad just like every manufacturer.
@tvangess 3 Japanese Brands of the 4 hates 2 strokers now, Only Yamaha excluded, MX and SX has turned into a world dominated by 4 bangers, Obvious reason for this cause they are revving harder now and the engines are lasting shorter time before blowing up, Means more profit for the Japs as 4 strokes are more costly to rebuild than 2's..........
@Tombstone416 I have heard that all manufactures still build 2 strokes, they just don't ship them to the U.S. because of the new AMA rules. Is that true? I have a 04 KX-250 2 stroke and Praise Yamaha for keepin' it going.
@ngreve I haven't seen evidence of that here in New Zealand at least, like I've seen dealers with new 08 RM250's and 07 CR125's and KX125's around here but nothing past that, I am not sure about Europe and Asia regions though, Yeah Yamaha wanted to keep the 2 strokers going in AMA but it was a lost cause.
The KX has a higher more peaky top end than the Honda. The Honda has a little better bottom to mid range than the KX. The '70 Suzuki's RM 370, 400 ,etc. were bottom end to mid range with no top end (a vapor really). I like the power range and handling of the RM370 over these 2 bikes. The only problem with mine was it broke down a lot. My Honda's just ran. The KX were just fast and vibrated like crazy in the older machines....
Excellent work with the side by side! i like the color green better than red for a bike, but other than that, they seem pretty comparable. mines a yamaha 465, still pulls pretty hard, but my buddie just got a kx500. Summer need to hurry up and get to alaska!
notice any difference in weight? I suppose the liquid kx would probably be a little heavier? Drum brakes on both? I've heard people complain about drums, but they seem to lock up my tire when i ask it to...
Nice guessing. Yes - It is Honda's air-cooled 500 engine implanted into a late-90's chassis and the 83 480 tank to keep it slim and space for the barrel. Possibly hard to appreciate if latest is considered being greatest, but this experimental bike feels awesome, and worth a try to mess with green.
nice job.what pipe are you running on the kx? if your struggling for over rev, try fmf gnarly desert, or P.C platinum/works.if you want to make the kx steer more like the honda, drop the fork clamps down the forks 10mm and experiment. once again, good work..
kx rocks mines a beast 2000 kx 500 no problems ever it will beat anything you put beside it i can ride it all day never over heat or foul plugs its on point that is why its won so many baha 500 and hound and hair go read about it never seen anything about the cr 500 very much it is a fast bike too but the kx is smother faster and more dependable i have had mine since 2000 new and not anything has gone wrong kx all the way
@dinosoreis1 i have an 88 cr500 and i have ridden the 88 kx but if you are looking for the power go for the cr. the controllability isint a big deal if your a good enuf rider
Thanks ! Good comment on the cmos overexposure @ sunset. Otherwise there are only fairly well known flying objects here....The K5 is a nice experience, but on a motocross track the feeling constantly gets topped whenever switching back on the Honda. That's certainly subjective, but I keep doing my investigations :)
wow i love my 04 kx500!my 3rd one trails track hill climbs drag race great alround bike,iv rode a cr500 but im a kawasaki team green let the good times roll rider so kawai all the way!;-)

Nice to have both bikes - it must be like christmas!
24tharcher 4 months ago
Both are good bikes, but in theory, the KX500 should smoke the CR500, since it has a powervalve, and green means go. Both smoke the 450's
