  • Drum Workshop isn't everything, Mapex, Gretsch, Sonor: all less expensive alternatives that sound just as good if not better than the popular brands everyone uses like tama pearl and DW (not that they're bad, just overrated and overpriced)

  • This dude is off the chain good

  • That variation of hot for the teacher is insane!!!

  • I'm sorry but his Premier drums sounded better.

  • i saw this kit in a music shop

  • I've seen Derico play a drum clinic in Muskegon Michigan, great drummer/great personality and while he can make 5 gallon buckets sound good his playing compliments these sweet drums extremely well imho.

  • My second names watson, And I play the drums o_0

  • Damn! No mics! I thought it had some efx! But it only has one mic! lol It took me time to notice that -.-

  • If I had £1800

  • PLEASE MAPEX, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE DO A REVIEW LIKE THIS ONE ON THE VELVETONE KIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What a great drummer and fantastic pitchman. Derico Watson is a class act.

  • you naughty traitor...premier sucks anyways

  • Sent one kit to my house in Brazil! haha

  • derico's a king on the kit!

  • Do want? Yes!!

  • Respect to mapex for doing a low-fi production, a nice idea.

  • All black guys play MAPEX.

  • Derico is the MAN!

  • Those cymbals are really nice too. Those are hhx right?

  • these are going to cost so much money =(

  • @mikeyalvarado damn straight... 6 piece configuration is $4,169 and with a second bass drum it's $6,019 according to my Drumhead magazine

  • @ElusiveWolf33 geeeeze thats about $6,019 more than i could afford lol

  • @ElusiveWolf33 there's a 5-piece config for $2,500. adding another floor tom would make it around $3000 would be my guess, maybe a little more. still not great...but there is hope haha

  • @avedisdrummer989 Damn, they dropped the prices then

  • @ElusiveWolf33 you can get this kit for about 3,200 on musician's friend, i've seen it as low as 2,400.

  • @adrummer181

These were the prices when it first came out, it's been 7 months.

  • Best Mapex kit I have ever heard

  • @rith5 true but it sounds quite tinny

  • @mflacche

I'll have to defend Mapex here.

Their hardware is great. I would say it's comparable to others' high end offerings.

I currently have/use the older single braced 700 series and newer 900 series stands,

and they hold up and have held up very well. The ball cymbal tilters are very innovative, and are excellent when it comes to precise positioning.

The Falcon pedal, though not for me, is a well designed and very smooth feeling pedal.

You don't need a rack for a brilliant kit.

  • when it will be at the stores?

  • Yes. Mapex will build you a custom drum. Or at least they did back about 8 years ago. I've got an 18x16" Orion Floor tom that is just a beast. I've got 22 and 24"x18" kicks, 8, 10, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 18 inch toms. I use an old Supraphonic. And these drums tune forever. You can get super high end ring all the way down to just finger tightening the toms and they all sound like little bass drums. Plus, the deal I got was 40% less than DW. No disrespect to DW, but these things sing.

  • Pretty cool that they've matched the build of the Blaster snare for a whole kit. That was definitely one of my favourites of the snare line.

  • @dww0902

If you're willing to pay, Mapex will probably build you a one-off kit to your specs and the finish you want... I know that they do build custom drums for people who ask.

  • Focused and explosive sound, indeed. Blaster, the name says it all...

  • @dww0902 you don't have to order that config. you can pretty much order any sizes you want...

  • Mapex has a hit on their hands with this Black Panther kit.
