I suppose during an earthquake, most buildings will be damaged anyway! Therefore,it does not matter whether it is an earthquake proof design or not do not make any difference! These are infrastructure project that help to attract foreign investment (Olympics), those foreign investment will in turn trickle down to the whole country. and there is nothing to be pround of for "China is the world's seoncd largest economy". the combined population of EU and USA is 0.5 billions less than China's population, but they each generate more than twices the wealth as China does. the GDP per capita in China is pathetic. With a 1.3billion populaiton, China should've and could've done much better, that's all i'm saying. part of the problem is this kinda waste on useless projects and corruption within the government.

ad: I am a Chinese-Amreican architect. I want to speak about this building CCTV alone,as I love most of the other buildings recently built in Beijing;but not this one! The government officials did not know the incapable from the competent too well, therefore mistakingly bought this second rated design!
