  • most annoying clicking sound

  • what people bull shit around here.. the development and project of the beijing only done 10%.. more exciting building will be build after olympic untill 2020.. other city like tienjin ,qingdao, shanghai, chongqin, shangdon, haerbin, develop quickly and extremely ......... the chinese compete with time, but the western still fighting in the parliment or war. Others are bull shit in Youtube.

  • How many reporters can this CCTV building hold? Compared to the 1976 earthquake near by Beijing in Tangsheng,it was said that 360,000 people died during that disaster,it is still a small amount of occupants to be involved here!So it is OK to let some people die here in CCTV in the next earthquake! It was said the force of an earthquake equal to 100,000 tons of TNT or the power of the atomic bomb that was dropped in Hiroshima!---dancewu(dot)net

  • I suppose during an earthquake, most buildings will be damaged anyway! Therefore,it does not matter whether it is an earthquake proof design or not do not make any difference! "They will all fall down any way!" The architect would argue, which building could withstand 100,000 tons of TNT or the atomic bomb in HIroshima? So the architect could sleep at night ever after! Or he would sleep any way. This building is not in his country, then who would give a shit?!---dancewu(dot)net

  • You folks are thinking about the plastic western economies. Money that you dont have nor the future of your children, because everything on credit. The chinese is going to one day buy you out and kick you out of your own continent.

  • As a curious fact - 50% of the world's concrete production is being consumed by China.

  • notty: "50% of the world's concrete products is being consumed by China." EXCEPT IN THIS BUILDING CCTV! BECAUSE THIS BUILDING IS ALREADY FILLED WITH NOTHING BUT STEEL, (JUST BECAUSE THE ENGINEER IS ONE OF THE WORLD'S BEST ENGINEER! WHO DID NOT WANT HIS NAME TIED TO AN ASYMETRICAL TALL BUILDING THAT WOULD COLLAPSE DURING AN EARTHQUAKE!)THEREFORE THE CONCRETE HAS TO BE USED ELSEWHERE! PERHAPS IN MY "GREAT WALL VILLAGE" HOUSING OVER THE EXISTING HIGHWAYS!---DANCEWU(DOT)NET

  • I think you're just pissed because Rem Koolhaas is successful and you're not. You exemplified that by comparing your ridiculous great wall housing project, which... not only is aesthetically terrible, but does not work very well in section, to this building.

  • @josh7777smith FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT, THE GREAT AMERICAN ARCHITECT DESIGNED THE IMPERIAL HOTEL IN TOKYO THAT SURVIVED THE 1923 EARTHQUAKE. I RENTED A ROOM THERE IN 1963 AND ADMIRED HIS ARCHITECTURE. BUT THIS KOOLHAAS BUILDING WILL NOT WITHSTAND THE 100,000 TONS ,EQUIVALENT TO THE ATOMIC BOMB THAT WAS DROPPED IN HIROSHIMA, AS WRIGHT'S BUILDING DID. THAT IS WHY WRIGHT WAS A GENIUS; KOOLHAAS,THE ARCHITECT OF AN ASMMETRICAL 40 STOREY BUILDING IN BEIJING, IS AN ASSHOLE! GEORGE WU, AIA 2010-6-30

  • Awesome!!

  • beijing needs a new airport even WITHOUT olympic games, the amount of passenger turnover is increasing way too fast.

I didn't say that, google for Guardian (UK)

  • what a shameful project, waste of money, beijing threw billions of RMB to built these kida projects just to impress the foreigners, that's the supidest thing ever. it's like north korea, they make Pyongyang so clean and so perfect while the rest of the country is a mess. Chinese government should put more money to built high quality infrastructure for the whole country, invest more captial on education and technology developement,a huge airport terminal shows aboslutely nothing but ignorance.

  • You are 22 years old from Candana, what do you know. These are infrastructure project that help to attract foreign investment (Olympics), those foreign investment will in turn trickle down to the whole country. Sure it will be a long time before people in the countryside receive some of the trickled down money from ignorant foreigners, but it will boost the country profile and create value, thus creative wealth.

  • this kinda "infrastructure" is completely unnecessary,it doesn't benefit chinese ppl at all. how much does this project cost? a few billions? imagine what would happend if the government spend all this money to build some real "infrastructures", like new schools, hosptials, public transportations. why build something to attract foreigners when there are millions of Chinese ppl still live in places without basic "infrustructures"?

  • This is why your culture is so much less interesting than mine. Not being a cultural elitist or anything, but Western culture, especially North Americans, mainly focus on utilitarian infrastructures while the Asian culture focuses on much more artistic and unorthodox ways to approach conventional things.

And foreign investment has already made China, the world's biggest exporter, the second largest and fastest growing economy... you ignorant fool.

  • mine culture is less interesting than yours?? what the hell do you think my culture is? Canadian? just because my location is set to Canada? well, check your own loaction first, dumbass.

Oh, and explain to me, how does building such "artistic and unorthodox" structures benefits normal Chinese ppl? you think they need more of these fancy buildings than a better health care system and eduction system?

  • second largest economy in the world, not second,so what? what are you comparing? GDP? EU has population of 0.49 billion, that's much less than 1/2 of Chinese population, and their GDP is more than twice as much as China's. USA has 1/4 of China's population, and their GDP is almost same as the whole EU's. pull out the fact that "China is the second largest economy in the world" doesn't prove anything. China should've and could've done much better without all the corruption and waste money

  • and there is nothing to be pround of for "China is the world's seoncd largest economy". the combined population of EU and USA is 0.5 billions less than China's population, but they each generate more than twices the wealth as China does. the GDP per capita in China is pathetic. With a 1.3billion populaiton, China should've and could've done much better, that's all i'm saying. part of the problem is this kinda waste on useless projects and corruption within the government.

  • lol, ignorance is a bliss I guess, take more economic classes, less youtube video watching.

  • lol, yeah, exactly,i'm glad that you you finally realized that you should do that

  • if you really believe that foreign investment is the solution to China's future, than you are nothing but an ignorant fool.

  • ad: I am a Chinese-Amreican architect. I want to speak about this building CCTV alone,as I love most of the other buildings recently built in Beijing;but not this one! The government officials did not know the incapable from the competent too well, therefore mistakingly bought this second rated design! First of all, Beijing is in a known earthquake zone! everyone knows that! yet this asymetrical structure could hardly support itself standing without using over loaded steel!.....dancewu(dot)net

  • I am so surprised that the intelligent Chinese leadership took the gamble to give China a government building CCTV, an asymetrical high-rise office building which is exciting to look at but doubtful could survive the tremendous earthquake forces! Don't cry when CCTV collapses during the next severe earthquake, because I have said so today September 23, 2008!---dancewu(dot)net

  • Also, these new and crazy architectures add to part of the excitement of a city, it really does boost the economy. I imagine a tourist would now choose beijing sooner than they choose philadelphia. What is in philadelphia? Some office buildings in the center and subdivisions around it, what's in Beijing? Batshit insanity.
