Maybe he listens to Joe Diorio, Frank Gambale, or Allan Holdsworth. They're just as great...but in completely different ways. My favorite parts of these Scotty videos are the chord/melody solos and the double stop solos. That's where he really shines.
i agree that there are different flavors of virtuosity....just glad i can still be impressed by some of these great players...some of whom are not represented by their recorded material very well...thanks to youtube i have broadened my listening habits.
