  • MY god...this lead singers voice compared to bellamys actually just makes me laugh. I couldn't listen to more than a minute and a half of this version.

  • wow! muse did this song a favor, that version is unbelievably better!

  • da fuk?

  • im glad Muse did a cover of this, because most people have never heard of MC4, so the Muse version is like a bit of a revival of sorts

  • So sad - hearing these comments diss a great band.

Go look up MC4 on YouTube.... but until them - stop bashing.

  • Muse did a better version

  • This is of course an amazing original... but... I can't help but like Muse's version more. It just sounds so much more... epic and emotional. But this one is great, too!

  • I love Muse to death, but MC4 is an AMAZING band, check out their other music >>> Suggestion videos. Much better than this Prague, love you MC4!

  • Shame that the top comments for a Mega City Four video are about Radiohead, because of ignorant people that just can't live with Muse being a better band than Radiohead without having been inspired by them initially. Pathetic really.

Putting that aside, this song is awful, even more worse than Muse's cover.

  • @SamuelEllmer: Muse is most certainly not a better band than Radiohead. Although Muse makes great emotional rock songs, Radiohead is by far more innovative with again by far more meaningful lyrics. Nothing Muse has ever made can compare to the album "OK Computer".

I'm a die-hard fan of both bands and love them to death, but Radiohead is the clear winner.

  • @TKOblue I'm afraid you're mistaking meaningful with pretentious.

  • @SamuelEllmer: How are the lyrics pretentious? Many of them deal with feelings of inadequacy or shame.

  • @TKOblue I can listen to muse over and over and over...and have been for the past 4 years. I like radiohead but after hearing a song of theirs 2 or 3 times I'm over it. I think THAT is what makes muse better. For me, that is.

  • @StringQuartetFan: How? I can listen to both over and over again with no problem.

  • @TKOblue I agree, Wiz doesn't generally have the best voice in this song, but I love MC4 and Ipanema/Serpico to death, so I have absolutely no problem with this.

  • I think Muse's version is better because when Matthew sings it, you can clearly hear on his voice that the's sad for leaving another friend behind and in the MFC version, it looks like the leadsinger is singing it in an ironic way, it doesn't looks like he's sad, it just looks like he's being ironic for leaving someone behind. And I cried when I heard Muse's version but on this one, when I heard it, I thought: "WTF??"

  • @supermassiveXdream Yeah, I feel the same.

  • @jmserbia Haha, thank you! :)

  • Muse's version is better than this one for sure. :)

  • I love Matt's voice more - not this tosser. This guy actually sounds neutral, if not happy - and it's such a sad song.

This guy needs some singing lessons

  • I love Mega City Four!

  • muse is well better than this shit especially the singer !!!!!!!!!!

  • @MrMuseboy Mega City Four and especially Wiz were far from shit, and seeing as you're such a fan of Muse i would have thought you'd have at least some respect for the bands that inspired them, comparing them is totally stupid. RIP Wiz.

  • Better than Muse version. Easily

  • @basisti94 in fact, the original Prague song have an grunge atmosphere. Otherwise muse version, has a industrial atmosphere :)

  • Just wondering... why did you put a Muse picture?

    This isn't a Muse song

  • @htfussman32 just wasn't bothered to search for a MCF pic, i know - lazy me :)

  • @htfussman32 i think it because muse did a cover of this song. that's my theory.

i think i prefer the muse version

  • Ah this is much better than muses version. However the singing is not. :)

  • This is sooo much better than Muse version...

The Muse version is the only Muse song I can remeberthat I hate

  • Muse did a good job on this song too.

    I personally like them both..

  • Like, I'm a huge Muse fan, but Muse failed at covering this song =P

  • This is SOOOO much better than the muse version

  • I prefer this to Muse's cover.

  • Does anyone know of any guitar tabs for this song?

  • if you want to hear song muse songs that sound like radiohead, look at "Boredom" especially but anything off of the Newton Abbot demo tape sounds pretty radiohead for the most part. Also "Overdue" from Showbiz sounds kinda like radiohead

  • muse's version of this song is so much more epic but it's also more boring and simple. I prefer this version

  • for as much as I loved MC4 live...I wouldn't pay 3 pennies to go down to a big stadium nr me to go and gaze at MUSE on a screen. I think they're boring as fuck. Only corporate rock paved the way for bands like muse. I'm surprised they haven't done string orchestra arrangements yet...give them two years and they'll go to Mali or Senegal...looking for genuine new sources of inspiration. Then some cunt will probably say..."they always was into BLACKer people's music"

  • @PoireauMan68 Are you kidding? The new album includes a full orchestra in numerous places lol

  • Where can I get tabs/chords of this song?

  • I had no idea Prague was a cover from this band, or any band at all.

  • I wonder what inspired muse to cover this particular song... ?

  • @HockeyHoles People have said it was because he broke up with his fiance?

  • Where did u get the pic , i want it

  • the link is in the vid info

  • I am an absolutely huge muse fan and i'm sick of the 'oh muse copy radiohead' comments because it's a load of bull.

but you cannot deny that muse had influence from them. If you were a muse fan you'd know that they hired John Leckie who produced radiohead's album the bends to produce showbiz and origin of symmetry because they were so inspired by that album!

  • finally!

  • guys lay off apgb. Its pretty obvious he has asperger's syndrome or possibly suffers from some form of mental retardation. hes been getting owned left and right here yet refuses to concede at all...so it all makes sense if you think about it.

  • there's a difference between copying and being an influence

Radiohead are a certainly an influence on Muse, but Muse haven't copied them

Muse also have many other influences, Radiohead is just one of the more prominent ones, at least in their earlier albums

  • Muse as a band didn't even exist then/had very recently formed

they didn't have their own style as band as soon as they started or before they started

    The Bends came out 1995

Cave, which Matt has said is one of the oldest songs from Showbiz was written in 1997

there's a clear similarity in sound

to say Radiohead have had absolutely no influence on Muse is incredibly ignorant - that would mean they've never heard them, which is not the case

  • Muse did not exist in 1992

at that time, Chris played drums in a band called Fixed Penalty and Dom and Matt played in a band called Gothic Plague and both bands played covers as opposed to original songs

Muse's first gig was in 1994 as the Rocket Baby Dolls in the Battle of the Bands you mentioned, where they played a Nirvana cover and some grunge songs Matt wrote with the help of a group of girls

yes, Nirvana had an influence on them, as did all those other bands, including Radiohead

  • clearly muse sound barely anything like they did then, so that's irrelevant

just because Muse sounded not much like Radiohead then, doesn't mean they've never been influenced by them

Nirvana was obviously a bigger influence back then, but I'd say Radiohead was a bigger influence 97-99ish, while they were writing songs for Showbiz

I believe we were thinking of different Battle of the Bands

the one on YouTube was not their first gig, it was in November, while the RBDs one was in February

  • I thought Rocket Baby Dolls were founded with one goal. To be the only band that didn't want to be like Nirvana?

  • @Lihyahm wel they did they did exist in 1992, but they havent given out eny albums, they only played conserts. it in the archive in the muse homepage

  • wrong

the gigs listed in that archive from 1992 are ones that the two separate bands Muse's members were in at the time played at

Chris was in a band called Fixed Penalty and Dom and Matt were in a band called Gothic Plague and they played together at a few gigs in 1992

    do your research next time

  • littleactress3 and Lihyahm are on the money. We aren't accusing Muse of coyping Radiohead. The argument here is the denial from a minority of young Muse fans that Radiohead wasn't an influence on Muse, when in fact, Radiohead clearly is. You may not like Radiohead as much as some and thats fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but ignoring the influences is just plain wrong.

  • Jeff Buckley was only an inspiration for the recording of one Radiohead song, Fake Plastic Trees. A cool fact that many people ignore here is that Radiohead formed in 1985. To put things into perspective they were a band before Nirvana, RATM and Jeff Buckley were even around. Many of the early demos and bootleg Radiohead tapes were being shared around the music community and amongst bands in those days. So Radiohead's influence goes way beyond what others give them credit for.

  • tobiasgobias is correct. There's a misconception that Jeff Buckley somehow made Thom Yorke magically sing better. When in truth, Thom was already singing like that before Jeff Buckley appeared on the scene. This isn't a disrespect towards Buckley though, as he was extremely talented and an inspiration for many artists.

Here are some old Radiohead songs from the 80s, that showcase Thom's early vocal abilities...

    =tC3YaxaJ4i4 <---To Be A Brilliant Light 1988

    =K8EKmOaCQIc <---Burning Bush

  • I'm very aware of Jeff Buckley's history. I wasn't implying that he appeared out of nowhere. That would be foolish. Since you seem to be brushing aside how Muse was influenced by Radiohead, the point was to give you a better idea at how long Radiohead has been around. I've also seen the young clip of Muse that you speak of and its obvious they were influenced by Nirvana and Radiohead just by watching it. Muse already said Radiohead influenced them, so an opinion on an old video is irrelevant.

  • Muse, the worlds biggest Radiohead cover band, is covering a non-Radiohead song for a change. And they fail miserably at it. They should stick to covering Radiohead, its what they do best.

  • @ToolSucksAss

I don't know how or where Muse sound like Radiohead. Nor is this Bellamy singing. And to my knowledge, Muse has never covered a Radiohead song. Muse's style isn't anything like Radiohead.

  • @apgb8

Radiohead has plenty of riffs. here's some examples...

    =ckU7jVBOueQ --- Just

    =Yl-pXpXxK00 --- Electioneering

    =yr4gkkc_TQk --- Paranoid Android

    =zrLE3yBn2Nw --- The Bends live

Also, there's nothing wrong with being influenced by Radiohead, Queen, RATM or any other band. Each of the above mentioned bands have brought something unique to the music industry. Muse is a big younger than those guys, so in a few years I'm sure Muse will be influencing many bands as well.

  • @apgb8

Look I never said Muse's riffs were similar to Radiohead's, I was just replying to how you said and I quote ''radiohead have never made a song with a riff ever''. Every link I posted has a riff, so you were wrong on that part. Here's a few more examples of Radiohead having riffs. These are a bit more ''meatier'' then the previous links I posted.

    =DgeKRbmUBns -- Myxomatosis

    =YJzosLzfTLw -- Bodysnatchers

    =4OEzcmlIi2k -- Maquiladora

  • I've been a fan of Muse since 1999, and I'm getting the impression you probably weren't familiar with the band back in those days. You missed loads of interviews where Muse listed Radiohead along with RATM and Jeff Buckley as influences. Muse eventually stopped listing Radiohead as an influence after the media branded them as Radiohead-copy cats.

  • Here on my desk, I'm holding a copy of Inside The Muscle Museum, a Muse book. In this book it features interviews with the band and first-hand accounts. It describes clearly how Muse were heavily influenced by Radiohead's early albums, it mentions how they were so inspired by Radiohead's The Bends that they ended up hiring John Leckie, the man who produced The Bends. Leckie eventually went on to produce Muse's first two albums.

  • Also another fact you probably didn't know about is how Matt Bellamy used to openly walk around wearing Radiohead t-shirts before Muse were even signed.

  • Here is a quote from Ronnie Kerswell, an early Muse supporter, and now a journalist for Rock Sound talking about when she helped run the Cavern Club, the very same Club the Muse members hung out at before being signed.

(posting quote on the next reply)

  • Ronnie Kerswell: ''A lot of people from the local college would come down and hang out (at The Cavern Club) - Dom would be there and their friend Tom [Kirk], who still works for them now. And Matt would be down there a lot, in his usual corner by the mixing desk. He was a bit shy, quiet, talking very fast, giggling like a little child - exactly how he is now. The only major difference was that back then they all had long hair. And I'm sure Matt used to wear a Radiohead t-shirt...''

  • The book is unofficial because it wasn't commissioned by Muse, thus meaning they get no profits but it was written by a credible journalist who is a very big Muse supporter. Here is a quote from the writer: "In writing this book I immersed myself completely in the world of one band. For weeks on end I listened to nothing but Muse, followed them on tour, interviewed many of their associates, traveled through press cuttings and TV footage, played their albums continuously for sixteen hours a day''

  • The majority of those interviews are difficult to find now but you can still find a few. Matt Bellamy was the main one who stopped listing Radiohead for a while, but Dominic Howard still kept mentioning Radiohead as one of his all time favorites. Go to musewiki and you'll find some links to microcuts where they show a few interviews where Dominic Howard and Matt Bellamy praise Radiohead. Also, Matt Bellamy loves Amnesiac and listed Kid A as an inspiration in recording new music.

  • You're missing the point apgb8, Matt is reacting that way because he's being accused of being a Radiohead copy-cat. You'll find in interviews that he usually takes being compared to Radiohead as a compliment as long as people don't say he's copying.

''Matt Bellamy is a fan of Radiohead's Amnesiac and is bored of the Radiohead comparisons, but takes it as a compliment. ''

The fact is, Radiohead influenced Muse whether you like it or not.

  • Listen to these back to back. They aren't identical, but very similar.

    =Mu2DaLiA1yo <--- Plug in Baby

    =LTGnujQfcRg <---Pearly

    =ok4z1-IGIo0 <----Hyper Chondriac Music

    =l1AY77N97B4 <---- Exit Music For A Film

Also listen to this old Radiohead song from 1994 , sounds very similar to many Muse songs

    =4fUpKSfNq48 <---The Trickster

  • There's also some lyrical similarities as well like for example:

    Muse - Glorious-

    ''Faith, it drives me away

    But it turns me on

    Like a strangers love''

    Radiohead - My Iron Lung-

    ''Faith, you're driving me away

    You do it everyday

    You don't mean it

    But it hurts like hell''

  • An influence does not negate another influence, that would be like saying 'Radiohead wasn't influenced by R.E.M. because The Beatles did it before R.E.M.'' Do you see how foolish that sounds? What we know for a fact here is that Muse has publicly stated that they are fans of Radiohead and have listed them as an influence. Here's some other Radiohead songs that are similar to some of the stuff Muse has done

    =NnbS7uKw6rA <-Palo Alto

    =7bLVHaqrKKY <-Inside My Head

  • People aren't taking you seriously apgb8 because you're coming across as a blind Muse fanboy. Whats the point of posting examples if you'll just automatically deny it or morph it into whatever false revisionary reality you have constructed in your head. Also you seem to slag off Radiohead with your disrespect, so its difficult to take you seriously. But, I still have faith in you apb8, I think when you get older you'll look back and shudder at how naive you were.

  • You see, there you go again with those comments. You slag Radiohead off as if its factual, when in truth its your opinion. I know fellow Muse and Radiohead fans are looking at me right now and saying ''don't even bother, he's a lost cause''.. but I'm going to post some examples in my next reply of some similarities between Muse and Radiohead like you requested even though you'll most likely deny it. Keep in mind that Radiohea'ds songs predate Muse's by many years.

  • Are you deaf?

  • yea okay they're riffs, they're just weak as piss thats all.

  • ahaha. Right. OK.

  • daftest youtube comment ever.

  • HAHAHHAAHAHAHA

  • Cool story bro

  • this is good

but i like more the muse version

  • The Muse version isn't bad, but it drags. The rhythm section sounds like it was recorded at a higher BPM and then slowed down. It doesn't have the feeling of the original. It's a good song and I'm glad Muse are giving MC4 some of the recognition they deserve.

  • seconded.

  • The Muse version of Prague is now on the NME website. search 'Muse b-side to 'Resistance' and you should find it. Its currently on the first page of the News section. I think the original is better.

  • This is very Britpop and MUSE have rocked it up a bit, I don't think MUSE liked Britpop.

  • Mega City Four were never Britpop. Nobody in Britpop had dreads.

  • I am assuming that the MC4 link is through Morgan who was at the time playing bass for the Senseless Things...fellow touring buddies of the Megas...both were fantastic live bands and criminally overlooked. Haven't heard the Muse version yet but anything which is going to encourage people to seek out some top late 80's, early 90's music has got to be good. Sebastpol Road was a great album, but for sheer power punk pop get your hands on Tranzophobia!

  • I thought Magic Bullets was brilliant too.

  • The Daily Download blog at NME's website has the full version of the Muse cover

  • For those of you not fortunate enough to have seen Mega City Four live they were awesome. Wiz & the guys inspired many bands and I was fortunate enough to see Wiz with his last band Ipanema in December 2006 shortly before his untimely death. He had incredible stage presence and was passionate about music, so much so that a trust was set up in his name and memory to support talented unsigned musicians. If you appreciate the original track do check out their myspace page

  • It's funny, the singer sounds a bit like Matt from 1995-1997,

  • not really.... like at all.

  • I'm intrigued to see how well Muse cover this, I haven't heard of Mega City Four before, and I will not say Muse will play it better as that's ridiculous, but I suspect they will give it a unique style.

  • If it weren't for bands like Mega City Four there would be no Muse. What do you think they were listening to in their teens?

  • same old story, new bands. if it weren't for bands before mega city four, this band wouldn't probably exist either.

  • You are right of course. Those bands would be the Ramones and Husker Du, amongst others.

  • yea, but these guys were probably listening to other musicians like led zep, stones etc.....point is muse do different things with music, and not copy, like most "new bands" do. they have created new styles and evolved, like hendrix and led zep once did.

  • No, Mega City Four were listening to the Ramones and Huster Du. I saw them 50 times. Believe me, I know. Point is, nothing is ever new or unique, it just builds on what went before. I do understand what you mean, that Muse don't follow the latest trend, but Mega City Four pretty much stood in their own spot 20 years ago. They certainly weren't seen as trendsetters.

  • never new or unique...umm...muse, lets see...they have a song in which a seven stringed guitar tuned down to A is used in which harmonics are used in the main riff...never been done, they put a kaoss pad, fuzz factory and various other effects on their guitars, never done...have a funk rock song in which a kaoss pad is used....

  • have various unique rock riffs such as octave chords (hysteria), harmonics as said before, riff such as plug in baby that originally came from a classical piece on the piano, and just plain old awesome riifs that aren't to basic or too long and extravagent. their song writing is priceless...and they're the only rock band that i know of to have made a proper symphony...i rest my case.

  • So, you noticed the Queen influence then?

  • what are u on about now?

  • You cannot hear the Queen influence in Muse? Do a google search for "Muse influenced by Queen" and see what you come up with. The benefit of being 40 years old is, I've seen like three or four generations of bands each influencd by the last (usually quite obviously) and the previous one to that. Muse clearly listend to the pop-punk msuical fringe in their youth, but Bellamy defintiely had some Queen albums in there somewhere.

  • there is a little queen influence, in suc songs as knights of cydonia, united states of eurasia, resistance and guiding light...but thats all i can see...but muse unlike queen and most bands make different music, hardly any of their songs sound similar in any way. i challenge u to tell me another song thats queeneqsue by muse other than those 4 songs

  • ....regardless, you talk about "pop-punk" is all wrong...muse's no. 1 influence is obviously rage against the machine, that obvious, second would have to go to hendrix (a big influence on all bands including queen), then other bands such as nirvana, primus, black sabbath, megadeath, led zep. pink floyd etc etc...queens in there somewhere yes, but muse are influenced more heavily by alot more bands than them.

  • WRONG! Muse's No1 influence is NOT RATM. When was the last time Rage cited Chopin or Rachmaninov as an influence? Or even went near a piano?? And your knowledge of Queen is quite clearly limited to just one song, Bohemian Rhapsody. You need to listen to some more albums mate before you make wildly inaccurate statements like the above. Being influenced by a band isn't just about if a song sounds the same. And which Queen song exactly does Cydonia sound like? That's right, NONE OF THEM!

  • RIGHT!!!!...jesus christ your a fucking idiot, RATM is muse's no.1 influence by far. and what are u talking about RATM playing piano or even classical music!?!?....yes MUSE are influenced heavily by classical, but their biggest is easily rage...thats ovbious, its been in countless interviews and you can hear it in a fuckload of thier songs, and even now with the political lyrics.

  • and KOC is a similar arrangement to bohemian rhapsody.but i'm saying they have those 3 other songs with a similar sound to queen.i think you need the queen lesson mate. wildly inaccurate statements!so far all you you guys have been so incorrect i've actually persisted in correcting you all.and yes, songs do need to sound similar to be an influence you douche,or else they're not an influence, its just a band they listen to.

  • ur an idiot anyway, your completely wrong from the point of sayiny RATM isn't their biggest influence

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! TALKING OUT OF YOUR ARSE. What next? Matt Bellamy rapping?? You'd love that. Seriously, your CD collection needs to be more than Rage and Muse, that's what, just 9 albums if you include 'Renegades'? Go listen to some more albums and come back when you've got a fucking clue about what you're talking about, you'll feel much better for it. And learn to spell. Douche.

  • troll i'm assuming.

  • WTF??? MEGADEATH???? Where the hell did you get that one from??? Can you even name me one song or album by 'Megadeath' without Googling it? Now I KNOW you have NO idea what you are talking about. And it's Megadeth actually, Google it.

  • i'm not a fan of megadeth, hence the spelling, but muse performed megadeth songs at their every gigs, and still today perform some riffs such as hanger 18 between songs. and ps. i dont give a shit about naming one of their albums, i'm stating the facts you douche.

  • So why the Mega City Four cover then?

  • they've done a cover of feeling good also, doesn't mean Anthony Newley, Leslie Bricusse or ninas simone are muse's biggest influences, its just one song that he performed since he was young. doing a cover doesn't mean they're your biggest influence at all, especially in this case with muse.

  • I can hear a RATM influence in Muse riffs, but in my opinion they are not the #1 influence. Yes, Muse's lyrics have gained a political edge but I believe it's a different political edge to RATM. RATM rap about socialist tendencies.. Muse are more dystopian.

There is a definite Queen influence in Muse - especially in Resistance with the 'big' sound Muse were aiming to achieve. But these are all personal opinions so I don't understand why people are lambasting each other for being 'wrong'.

  • muse's no. 1 influence is rage, sorry everyone, you're all wrong, their are countless interviews with them saying this and they even have made a song with mike skinner so they can have a song which is very rage like.

  • there's a difference between favourite band and biggest influence

Matt has said numerous times that RATM are his favourite band, but this doesn't mean their music is the biggest influence on them

Apart from some of their riffs, Muse's music has little in common with RATM

Queen and Radiohead are both bigger influences on Muse's sound than RATM

There's a clear influence from Radiohead's The Bends in Muse's Showbiz

  • I think what people are trying to say is that all bands get influence from other music, but then they change it slightly to be more original. If everyone was a copy all music would sound the same with no progression

  • Exactly, music today is how it is due to a chain of events over many years featuring many bands. I live in Canada and wasn't really aware of Muse until a couple of years ago, but the first I picked up on was the Queen influence. They clearly don't mimic Queen, but they have taken something from them and molded into their own design.

  • classical

  • Sounds like something Muse would cover. Can't wait to hear their version!

  • Finally, MC4 will get their pay day. About bloody time. One of the best bands ever.

  • I thought the song sounded interesting and good until he started singing :P

  • I love Mega City Four more than I love Muse, especially because of the singing.

  • I suppose it's a matter of opinion really; different singing styles appeal to different people.

  • Prague is my capital city.. please came to Czech republic...people there love MUse

  • @princesXone i <3 Prague, beautiful city with very cheerful people! Cheers from France :)

  • I actually think this is a pretty good song, but I am still looking forward to the Muse version, I'm sure they will do it better.

  • omg his voice is so terrible! lmao. cant wait for Muse cover tho. its still more to look forward to than some remix.

  • haha

    this guy really cant sing
