@Tily0507 I should clarify that by "obscure" I mean songs and bands that were not played on mainstream American radio stations in the 80s. Examples: "Nowhere Girl" by B-Movie; all of Siouxie & the Banshees; Echo & the Bunnymen; Shriekback; Blancmange, Love & Rockets (the stuff that didn't get played); Tones on Tail; the Smiths; New Order, many more. Some of these are now played on mainstream stations here.

I love The Smiths, but they are the only ones I know. I live in Argentina. My other '80's pantheon is inhabited by The Police, John Waite, Philip Bayley, Alan Parsons Project, Cutting Crew and The Cars. I presume they were all mainstream, I'll look into your bunch of bands.
