  • It's so funny how history can sometimes repeat itself. I remember as a child my mom would play this song over and over crying. She has gone home to be with the Lord and I find myself reminiscing and crying. I guess children live what they learn.

  • This is love.

  • The voice of a wise man.

  • Righteous!

  • This is one of the best song i know, and i still love it just le me thing of my young days

  • wow Jamaica is beautifal

  • great song

  • have this on my jukebox good way to start the day

  • I am white and i think this song is amazing... colour does'nt matter when it involves great music

  • Many ruvers to cross es una gran canción, aunque no veo nada de referencia a la discriminación contra los negros. Según dice la letra parece una canción de alguien abandonado por la mujer que ama.

  • awesome video. good old days.

  • best song ever

  • One of the main upsetting factors today is that black people will sometimes have to work twice as hard. We are still 'mocked' by slavery and while there is better equality its not enough. Generally speaking, black people will always have to work twice as hard to cross those rivers. But with pride and hope we shall get there.

  • @carlorowe I agree with your comment 100%! The main purpose of the word 'equality' is to prevent litigation! Unfortunately for blacks, life is always one big struggle especially when you are living in a white man's world and under white man's rules!

  • @carlorowe ---- it is the pride that so impresses me. As a minority person in america, i understand a little of what you feel.

  • @carlorowe - AMEN Brother

  • @carlorowe Really? Where do you live?.... I lived in LA.. never heard anyone 'mock' blacks or slavery. And that was 1990's...... Generally speaking black people will always use slavery as an excuse. People got to grow up! Talking about yo Bitches and yo Hos.... Yo Brother! Grow Up! Treat your women right....You want equality? Never gonna get it until you you stop calling women bitches and hos....

  • @carlorowe Am sorry for you black people living in other races worlds and your are treated as minority or lower class. I live were black is the Majority so i cant relate to what you are saying man. i don't have to work twice as hard but deal with the evils of our own black people which are jealousy, envy, corruption, lack of self esteem and all that shit that blacks naturally have...Africa is where am at and Blacks are f**king kings out here man.

  • Very nice song and video

  • love this vid. and tune:)

  • which side?

  • holy shit they drive on the wrong side...

  • @Theloniaboy I remember Ricks... use to tie up the dingy at the cliffs...really hard on the dingy. But Rick was a friend... haven't seen him in forever. Remember the market in Sav?? We had a Camaro & filled it to the roof with potato, yam, salad & oranges to stock the kitchen at the old Yacht Club. Glad to have seen it before the resorts took over.

  • @TheLilibelle - yup, remember sav when wild pigs roamed the street, rember cottage on the rocks w/ george & his memorable stove next door to u, then formed birchrunville south up the road...

  • im 13 nd this song is my favorite

  • @uceDucez253 - GIt is onne great, great song. What attracted youu to it? he movie? An event in your life?

  • @RedKruzer my dad plays it on his cd player i got attracted to...i love it

  • still searching......in the debts of depression over wealth but listening to this makes me wanna buy a fuckin rocket lancher and blow ur fuckin asss to king dom fucking CUM

  • I first heard this song when i was 12 yrs old and have listened to it once in a while over the years and finally forgot about it, when i heard it on Falling Skies memories came flooding back. BIG UP JIMMY CLIFF

ps I AM NOW 51 YRS OLD

  • Jimmy Cliff has a talent to rival Michael Jackson. He is the only person who could have sung this with such feeling!Pewace and Love to All.

  • I have been on that road. Back i the late '80's. I think that is the road from Montego Bay to Ochos Rios. Cool. Always loved this song.

  • My best friend sang this song to me before I moved 6,000 miles away. It seemed so fitting. This song will be with me forever now and I'm gonna sing it to her once I see her face again. x

  • This is the Jamaica I remember. I know things change, but sometimes we dont realize how amazing our past was till we cant get it again. The simpleness of JA, the beauty of the island and the peace it brings to you. Gods Country. Grew up in JA in the 1970's, went to C-Bar, St Andrews Parish Church and lived in Kingston. Many AMAZING memories of my youth in paradise.Curry Goat, Bullah, Peppa Shrimp, Patties, Roast Fish, Manning Cup, Champs, Festival, Dunns River,, Hope Gardens, Ochi, Christmas

  • falling skies brought me ....

but it seems the song is way better ...

  • yep. falling skies brought me here

  • falling skies

  • You know I was living at Moorlands, close to Mandeville with my brother and mom(God Has her now) and dad. I was between age 4-7(almost 59 now). My folks were missionaries in Jamaica for bout 4 years. We had a green truck and showed Gospel/Christian movie films across the island. Sometimes to places only the donkey go, we found place to say "Thank You" to the most wonderful people. To this day I still reflect the almost 4 years I had as a child in Jamaica as unforgettable. Vid bring memory bak!

  • stokey72, knew the Jacksons when they had the boarding house up in redground, nice people. I have searched America and never had chickin like it's served at chickin lavish. Negrils not the same as it was in the old days but what is ? Someday the forces that hold Jamaica back will be gone and then everyone will have the chance to prosper.

  • so emotional my grandad was buried to this xxxxxxx love you grandad ripxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

  • This song is so deep, especially the circumstances that inspired it. Jimmy is a strong man for real. It makes me want to cry every time I hear it. it was my high school graduation song too.

  • First time to Negril was xmas 72.. 12 trips later I have never looked at life the same again. Sav La Mar market on Saturday morning, nothing like it. Someone mentioned the Yacht Club and Rasta George, great memories, great people. Love to stop at Chickin delicious one more time.........soon come. Anyone remember jumping off the cliffs out by Ricks ?

  • @TheIoniaboy I was in Negril early 1980,s . Stayed at a place on the cliffs owned by Sammy Jackson .I remember a Chicken lavesh. .The Yatch club . The warf club Murphys .The hills around

Springfield and Sheffield beatifull. The onl;y souind was just birds.

    love Jamaica

  • EPIC*

  • i love jimmy-i've seen the movie 3 or 4 times-he is one of the first{or the first}to get jamaican music out to the rest of the world. i love everything jimmy has done, but this is one of my favorites! i can relate to a lot of his songs but this one i can really relate to plus it is such a beautiful song. that movie showed how hard it was for the jamaican musicians--i'm just so grateful to jimmy for getting it out to us!!! i thank you soso much for posting!!!!

  • this song rocks

  • Who dislikes this song??? Must be nickelback fans...

  • I had a Jamaican Uncle who married into my UK white family circa 1980 and even as a youngster remember him being put down by relatives. Little do those elders who have since passed away know of the peace and tolerance he instilled in us as children when apart from the racist elders. A hero in his own right and my very own Jimmy Cliff. Bless.

  • @ShabbeyRoad1 nice comment man.

  • @jakethefreak1 Thanks Jake. Just as black immigrants had to stand tall back in the day its about time some of us whites also stood up tall and shouted out for those that made a difference, even if as a child. Take care bud and thank you for taking the time to reply.

  • @ShabbeyRoad1 respect

  • @ShabbeyRoad1 - as I mentioned to Carorlowe above : You might like. perhaps cherish, this DVD collection : Paul Robeson: Portraits of the Artist (The Criterion Collection) (1935) - 1/2 price as almost new on Amazon....

  • @ShabbeyRoad1 what a great meaningful message. thank you, from a (relatively young) jimmy cliff fan. let the music live.

  • Just brilliant.

    Enough said.

    Thanks for this.

  • Beautiful song, brings tears to me eyes.

  • Aceridgey, you say that "A man without faith couldn't sing like this" -- I don't know about Jimmy Cliff, but in my opinion you are wrong. This is about truth, not faith/religion.

  • My friend, I am a white 50-year old atheist woman... Lost, you might say in many ways because life threw a lot of shit my way. This touches my soul and I feel blessed to hear it, even if I'm not sure what it is to be blessed. XXX

  • @MrNoupie . Lost. You are found. Blessed is to be blessed. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.Bless you.

  • This music unites certain people.. Rastafari and jamaican people in one unity... At the end of the day, the argument about faith in god and atheism will get worse and worse.. A man without faith couldn't sing like this. thats the honest truth.. Marley, Isaacs, Tosh, Silk, Dube, all men of God. Selassie I bless everyone, who seeked to watch this video, one heart people!

  • @aceridgey , One song, one people, one heart, one.

  • this song just touches my heart....so full of soul it creates such a powerful mix of emotions inside of you....thanks for the upload xxx

  • @mchudi91 Thank you for your kindness.

  • Grand Ma Porter's in Red Grounds, the cavern behind her place was magical.

  • my nan loved this song she r.i.p nan

  • @ninpauline R I P

  • i love jimmy and i love this song. he sing from the heart and soul! i've seen the movie about 4 or 5 times-it has been so so hard on the jamaican musicians--it's so great to be able to hear their music -and jimmy cliff was one of the first to get their music out. thanks so much for posting this and many many thanks to jimmy and other musicians for their hard work to get their music out and we can enjoy i!!!!!

  • this is a part of history

  • I didn't see the SunDip... just south of the old Yacht Club run by RastaGeorge & Rute

  • @TheLilibelle Used to stay in Cottage on The Rocks, Then lived in Birchrunville South, Brought Red Salvation/Survival home from a bum marijuana chargw decades ago, recorde it on a 1/4"AKAI B &W video recorder...

  • Great recording... and the video -- that's how fast life goes by after a while!

  • @alphasun1 Thank you so much, especially for noting the video which pales so under this incredible moving touching musical performance...

  • Crossed many rivers in many parts of the world, mostly in my younger years.

Maybe rivers do have a life apart from humans, but still provide for all of us, as the poets write about.

I will never lose sight of them, as I've found it imposible to drive over a bridge without giving the river a look. The each have their own certain beauty.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • @rockinroller7 - ah rivers, river crossings, bridges, covered bridges all have a special place in my heart of memories…hope you take peek at some of my "Time Reverie" videos, visual focus on as Loggins & Messianacdid: "Watching The River Run."

  • fantastique, thks

  • wonderful song

  • this has to be one of his greatest songs....

  • amazing ^_*

  • DANCEHALLVIDS. COM has all your favorite Reggae, Dancehall, Soca and Ska Videos!!

  • Great song. Also check Joe Cocker's version. Worth it.

  • The internet is capable of doing what our leaders cannot do. We bring nations together and people of all walks of life with a common bond of music. Wouldn't it be nice if we fought with music instead of bullets. This type of music would certainly be at the top of the pile. I close my eyes and dream of time gone by, and the good things in life that I should be thankful for. Then i carry on with my day.

  • The Master of song, thank you.

  • So Sweet , So Beautiful1!!!!!!!!!! LOVE ALL OF YOU EVERYONE <3

  • i forgot how amazing this record was

    what a legend JC was

  • Is that 2006 ?

  • @peteselwin ...it was shot in 1989...

when Negril was still a tiny fishing village

  • @RedKruzer ,,,.....stupit, it was peter Tosh in year 87...i was do this time in jamica, 87-90! by from vienna

  • @RedKruzer no , it was P.Tosh, in year 87,...good wishes from vienna !

  • @peteselwin Was there in 1972.73,74,75,76,77. No phones in Negril, just ship to shore radios. Had to bus it to Sav La Mar for phone booth. Not a hotel on the beach, stayed with Doris in her bungalows, who is long gone, her son's Clive and the other one built her land all up with crap. I will never go back. Also knew a sculptor, Williamson, a Rasta, 10 Mile Bull Bay, aka 10 miles west of Kingston. Those were the days to go to Jamaica. Sorry for all of you who missed those days.

  • The Harder They Come

  • This song makes the trials of my life, well...OKAY! We come in alone...we leave alone...the sooner we except that, the better off we will be!

  • Thanks Red.

In 1985, 3 1/2 minutes of super 8 film cost about $10 and another $5 - $15 to get it processed. So these videos, I'm sure, weren't cheap. And converting them to digital is also a feat. Much love for bringing my country back to me.

I love Jamaica as much as life itself. Glad you all enjoyed it too.

    Keep em comin, Brudda.

  • @BedStuyBro - I have many older Jamaica videos on youtube, you might like...3 cover an adventure deep into a bat cave where local youth made music by banging stagtites w 2 x 4s- & much more. Also have old videos of Red Survival, oldest Rasta in Negril, playing his guitar as a percussion instrament (roots...) and singing wonderful original songs, likewise Cat I perfect pitch and drummer...

    Best, Hy

What does "My first 70 years in America" mean?

  • @tiptopsound - At the time I wrote that, I was 70. Now I'm 73. I have an extensive 40 year collection collection of videos that I have shot. This 1980ish video is one of them. So this collection being exhibeted helps document my first 73 years in America. It is an ongoing process.

    Thank you for noticing.
