@tdemarti7767 The reason so many people blame the parents, too, is because the reason a lot of kids get into substance abuse is often to escape a dysfunctional home life. When my little brother went into rehab at 15 for huffing and rolling (3 years ago), we went through group therapy with the other families and patients. Every patient there had problems at home where they felt unloved and couldn't trust their parents and/or siblings.

My parents allow me to smoke marijuana liberally and I am often complimented on how well mannered I am in social situations with adults (via my parents, of course). My parents are even aware that I am a sexually active 16 year old. So they are very liberal about my restrictions and they have raised me well. Well enough to use drugs responsibly. So parents should not be blamed for what their kids do. It's 50/50. Keeping a child very restricted can make teen years very difficult.

Marijuana is not legal in Canada or Jamaica. Decriminalized is the word I think you were looking for, though in Jamaica there are severe penalties for its possession and cultivation but they're typically overlooked. It's decriminalized in a few countries including here in the United States, but only at a state level within certain states that permit its medical use, overall on a federal level it is still illegal. Also, crimes related to the drug typically only happen because the drug is illegal.
Maybe you shouldn't be so categorical about drugs. Sure, they can be harmful...but so are most things with potential. Drugs helped our civilization evolve to higher levels of consciousness. Psychoactive substances are a very important part of our history. Also, I don't think brainwashing kids is useful. They'll learn the truth from the internet soon enough. Like you said, you can't keep someone from getting high if they want to get high.

there are a couple of comments about marijuana on here. I actually did a full length college report in 2004 on the medical uses and harmful effects of marijuana. I found this Marijuana is non addictive, does not make you hallucinate for most people does not make you paranoid and is used for eye problems and as a pain medication and it also does not interract with any other drug. It is much less harmful than alchol . You should not drive under the influence though.

@Sniff34 - People don't necessarily have to have smoked anything to get lung cancer as with actor Christopher Reeve's wife, Dana, so I wouldn't have made that argument, anyway :) My point was that if an outside substance has a known and obvious risk (not someone adding a dash of nutmeg to a cake when the recipe calls for it), why take that chance and play Russian roulette with one's mental health and overall health?

The "substance abuse & mental health services administration" website has more info. Narcotics Anonymous and/or Alcoholics Anonymous have free 12-step groups for those who have the desire to get sober. (One may attend an "open" AA meeting if doesn't have a drinking problem.) @tdemarti7767 The reason so many people blame the parents, too, is because the reason a lot of kids get into substance abuse is often to escape a dysfunctional home life. When my little brother went into rehab at 15 for huffing and rolling (3 years ago), we went through group therapy with the other families and patients. Every patient there had problems at home where they felt unloved and couldn't trust their parents and/or siblings.

My parents allow me to smoke marijuana liberally and I am often complimented on how well mannered I am in social situations with adults (via my parents, of course). My parents are even aware that I am a sexually active 16 year old. So they are very liberal about my restrictions and they have raised me well. Well enough to use drugs responsibly. So parents should not be blamed for what their kids do. It's 50/50. Keeping a child very restricted can make teen years very difficult.

Marijuana is not legal in Canada or Jamaica. Decriminalized is the word I think you were looking for, though in Jamaica there are severe penalties for its possession and cultivation but they're typically overlooked. It's decriminalized in a few countries including here in the United States, but only at a state level within certain states that permit its medical use, overall on a federal level it is still illegal. Also, crimes related to the drug typically only happen because the drug is illegal.

Maybe you shouldn't be so categorical about drugs. Sure, they can be harmful...but so are most things with potential. Drugs helped our civilization evolve to higher levels of consciousness. Psychoactive substances are a very important part of our history. Also, I don't think brainwashing kids is useful. They'll learn the truth from the internet soon enough. Like you said, you can't keep someone from getting high if they want to get high.

Marijuana information continued.. It has been linked to but not confirmed to cause short term memory loss and impaired reaction time. It does not make you lazy. If you look at countries such and canada and jamaica where pot is legal you will find little or no crimes related to the drug. You will also find that no one is suffering any long term health problems from continued use of the drug.

there are a couple of comments about marijuana on here. I actually did a full length college report in 2004 on the medical uses and harmful effects of marijuana. I found this Marijuana is non addictive, does not make you hallucinate for most people does not make you paranoid and is used for eye problems and as a pain medication and it also does not interract with any other drug. It is much less harmful than alchol . You should not drive under the influence though.

The effects of this drug are similar to marijuana. When I tried it, I became relaxed and paranoid at the same time. I also felt like I was living in a dream. After a while I realized that I was uncomfortably horny, so I jerked off. I also became hungry for snack foods, like goldfish. I tried to watch an episode of Beavis and Butthead without laughing, and failed. I sang along to some MGMT and then went to sleep. It was a decent experience, except the depersonalization lasts for days.
