  • Wikipedia still defines it as follows:

The Irish Washerwoman is a traditional Irish jig whose melody is familiar to many people in the several times, sometimes by gradually increasing in tempo until being played very fast before coming to a sudden stop.

The song was arranged for the Boston Pops Orchestra by the American composer Leroy Anderson in 1947 and has featured in the repertoire of the Dutch violinist and composer André Rieu, conductor of the Johann Strauss Orchestra

  • @eltonkam very very nice :D:D i hope to learn to play that as good as you :D

  • @TheJohn101293 Live in U.S.....Jesus christ, you didn't have to throw a childish fit about it, how old are you, twelve?

  • us irish americans just say irish interchangeably with irish-american.. we KNOW we arent IRISH irish, as in a native. If you understood the american melting pot culture a little better, you would see that he didnt mean anything disrespectful to actual irish natives by it. I would never say I was irish to native irish people, but i certainly would to other americans. RELAX

  • The expression on your face says it all - excellent!!

  • sei stato veramente eccezionale!!!!! :)

    Good job!

  • that was the most skilled thing ive ever seen

  • That was very good

  • In Portuguese too

  • Belíssimo

  • bravo! u can be irish if u want.

  • great!!

  • Excellent!

  • I heart you ;p

  • epic

  • Wonderful!

  • jajajaj, genial P=

    =D

  • I like the way you play. I can play this on violin and piano, but I'm not as good as you.

  • Really good!

  • You have to practice your handling with the bow, your arm is hard as stone!

  • Wow, that was friggen awesome! Nice playing mate!

  • that was fast as hell

  • Way too fast for him. His fingers aren't lining up with the bow. If you want to play this fast, you can't use classical bowing... you need to use much less bow. You should be able to do the tune with only an inch or two of your bow.

  • an inch of bow?

that would be too weak of a sound no matter how much pressure you apply to the strings.

    at least several inches :P

  • when your doing 16th notes like that you cant use a couple inches. they would turn into 8th notes. I play violin myself. trust meh i would know lol

  • meh..

i play viola..i mess around with this song once in a while but..unless you don't want much volume an inch of bow is really small. you can use a couple inches and keep the speed going if you can control your wrist easily and coordinate it with your left hand..but w/e >.>

  • So clear and precise. Great job!

  • O_O WOW GOOD JOB KEEP IT UP.i love Irsh music even this one.

  • Same as U.

  • Yea!

    How about you?

  • In Canada, I'm from Argentina, learning Mandarin :D

  • In Toronto?

  • That was nice!

    You get 5* from me!

    Zai Jian!

  • Thank you. Where are you located?

  • good onya boy keep it up !

  • Wow, I didn't know a Chinese man can play as well as an Irish! Good Work!

  • okay, i know chines people may be wierd but that was awesome Mr.Chinese Man!!!!!!! I never heard the Washer Woman being played so excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Two thumbs up!!!

  • That was a decent 32 seconds i must say.

  • Lovely! Thank you for sharing.

    ~Kat

  • Nicely done lad!

  • i think chinese people are awsome if u wanted to know

  • I love the classical twist you put on it! Very good

  • Thanks. Which country are you from?

  • USA. I play violin too, by the way. Some stuff, very badly recorded, is on here. haha. Take a look if you want!

  • Wow! U R a great player. Excellent. I wish I could play like that. I have been whether I can play bluegrass or jazz on violin. I need to learn more!

  • Thank you!!! I love violin, and pretty much play it all the time!

  • Not bad at all, except should be AA BB AA pattern. Our kids are half chinese and they play fiddle good, please drop by to listen.

  • Long live the Irish!!!!!!!!!!!

  • big kiss from the irish.

  • slow it down just a little

  • Well I couldn't dance to it at that speed, but variation is good...thank you

  • A little bit fast :) Add some flavor to it!

  • I'm speechless! Bravo!

  • Eh Bien

  • i'm an Irishman and i approve this interpretation. play on my friend, and bravo! i'm trying to play this on my ocarina... it's tough.

  • you should build up your speed when you start playing but its still pretty good. I can play that song and its such a fun song, wish i could play it like Andre Rieu or bergman or the Dubliners, oh well practice makes perfect!

  • I agree. Normally, when I played this piece in public, I did pick up speed. You could look at another YouTube video clip of mine on "British Sea Songs" which I picked up speed on that one.

  • one thing i do to help me play faster is play each note slowly first and when i know them by heart i play it fast. as a person fromireland i say BRAVO!

  • Thanks. What country and city are you come from?

  • I'm from Buenos Aires, Argentina. Today I've day off, so I don't have to work. I've the score of the washerwoman.. I will practice to see what can I do. =)

    Greetings.

  • kilkenny ireland

  • Oh! I love the way you play "The washerwoman"!

I'm about to learn that song! I love it!

    Sir, you're great. =)

I wish I could know people like you.

I like your smiling face while you play, it gives a better interpretation. =)

  • a bit too fast imo and the timing is not very steady.. but i'm an amaterur musician.

  • You play almost as well as Perlman! I love it!

  • Very kind of You! Which country or state are you from?

  • Thank you. I live in the U.S.

  • Grr, I meant the U.K., not U.S. Sorry about that...

  • damn....a very good fiddler good job!

love how fast you played it also

  • bedad and begorrah you're quite the fiddler :) I certainly tip my hat to you fine sir

((I love hearing that song well played))

  • My wife and I went during May and it was great. We went as far as Anchorage, but we wished we had the time to take an additional week to go to the interial for the famous park (couldn't remember what it is called). I used to live in Canada too, and used to the snow and cold. The ice in Alaska was beautiful. The cruise was the Princess line and it was great. We sailed from Vancouver.

  • That was great! I'm about an 8th Irish. Not much, but I'm proud of it. I live in Alaska. Good job.

  • LOL! I am 1/10th Irish for studying in N. Ireland for seven years when I was younger:-)

  • kool! My sis wants to study somewhere in Ireland. How is Ireland? The people? The food?

  • Excellent people. Irish people are very hospitable and friendly. I was a poor student at that time and ate Irish stew, bake bean on toast! But of course, they are very prosperous and expensive to live now, very different from Alaska:-) I have been to Alaska, on the cruise once.

  • Sounds great! I want to visit Ireland and Scotland eventually. I'm a quarter Scottish.

Did you like Alaska? What area did you cruise through? How'd you like it?

  • I loved this. You are blessed talented!

  • I'm from Argentina!

  • You're so good!! Good work! ;)

  • Which country are you from?

  • I live near Cleveland, Ohio in the USA. I play the violin, for hobby. Unfortunately, I've been only self-taught, so my ability is very limited.

  • Thanks. I live in Cape Cod. I lived in N. Ireland as a student when young and learned the Irish jig. I had to depend on my visitor to do video random taping for me. Will try to do some more next time when I have a chance. Keep up your violin. It is important to have a good teacher to give you good techniques. For violin, if you have a good ear for musical pitch, that would help.

  • Oh, I'll keep playing. Maybe someday I'll be able to afford lessons, but in the meantime, I'll keep playing!

  • Very cute.

  • I learned this piece when I studied in N. Ireland many years ago. Which country and city are you located? Are you a violinist yourself?
