  • Simple and no filler. Thanks for the vid bro

  • Thank you thank you thank you... Hank

  • seems really easy, thanks, ordered for mine the

    Corsair VS2GSDS667D2 PC2-5300 2 GB (667 MHz, SO-DIMM) DDR2-SDRAM

Hope it works well with it!

Mine comes with Windows 7 Starter, so I guess some more RAM are not a bad idea...

  • @TheSheepherd You can never have too much RAM :)

    unless you're on 64bit :-O

  • @robbiekhandotcodotuk got the NC10 plus for a good price I think, so I wanted to spend it the 2 GB from the beginning :D

My gf has one of the early Acer Aspire one, the NC10 must be a lot better...

  • @robbiekhandotcodotuk got my NC10 ecko plus yesterday, design is a bit different (stylish power-button is gone but touchbad seems bigger), memory change worked as easy as shown :)

  • @robbiekhandotcodotuk jepp, and it was really that easy, even my bottom looks different...place of slot changed...

  • @TheSheepherd

IVE seen this RAM on the PC world website...just wanted to know if it worked fine for u

  • TY it helps me =)

  • Will a:

    Kingston 2GB 667MHz DDR2 Non-ECC CL5 SODIMM.

    ram work?

  • I did a LOT of reading before doing this, and in reality it takes literally 10 seconds to open it up and replace (the plastic cover was refusing to budge, and I thought I'd break it, though, just go gently).

The "grounding" part made me a bit paranoid. Apparently, take off all jewellery, wear rubber-soled shoes, rinse your hands in cold water, put your foot on a metal radiator and touch a metal tap, no synthetic clothes, were the things I did. Obviously my hands were dry when I delved in!

  • Can you upgrade the NC10 with more than 2GB ram. Btw if you could give me a link to where you got your 2GB ram from i would much appreciate it

  • @iTubeUrMom I don't have the link to hand but any DDR2 laptop ram is fine. You cannot install more than 2GB though.

  • Can you upgrade the NC10 with more than 2GB ram. Btw if you could give me a link to where you got your 2GB ram from i would much appreciate it

  • thanks for the video

  • Thanks for the video! It really assisted me in replacing the memory in my netbook!

  • those lateral clips sure are tricky. thanks for the video I was afraid of breaking it by pulling too hard.

  • @jpxxx No problems :)

  • Why the heck didn't they put 2 slots in it?!

  • Save costs I guess :p NC10 was one of the first batch of notebooks too remember so shared much of the build notes with other Atom powered netbooks.

  • @robbiekhandotcodotuk

Thanks for the reply and the video!

  • YAY thanks soooooooooooo much u just helped me change my ram in my nc10...it was so much easier thanks a million

  • No problems!

  • what ram type do you need? I head either pc2-6400 or pc2 5300

    which one is better?

  • 6400 is the better ram

  • hey where did you get your ram from, i just got this laptop and want to upgrade to 2gb, could you give me a link please thanks =)

  • Local PC shop, already mentioned in the comments!

Any DDR2 ram will be fine.

  • ok thanks

    thanks for uploading video =)

  • :O, You don't remove the battery?

  • Not really any need to.

  • Ah ok, I'll buy this PC, how much RAM may have set up? (Sorry for my poor english i'm french)

  • no problems, 2gb is the max

  • Ok, it's perfect, and (sorry for my questions) is it is better than the MSI Wind U100?

  • I'd say the NC10 is better than the U100 really.

  • Ok, thank you very much ;)

  • can u answer my other question

  • you dont need to go into the bios, i never needed to. 2gb is the max yes.

  • thanks

  • hey, if you slide a small screwdriver or similar along under the edge when open the back, it pops off super easy. :)

  • is urs the 3 cell or 6 cell battery

  • 5 cell

  • 6 cell rather

  • hi iam thinking of get NC10 can u tell me were u got the ram from and is it possible to put windows seven on it

and some of the video on putting ram in NC10 say u have to go in to the bios

and is 2gb ram the maxium the NC10 can take?

  • I got it from a local shop, ram is ram, get some ddr2 laptop ram and it will be fine.

Windows 7 works fine on it but I would not get an NC10 now, get one with an INtel 4500MHD gfx chipset or an ION chipset because anything else won't run Flash HD using the GPU.

  • wht do u mean

  • wht do u mean

  • wht do u mean

  • wht do u mean about the graphics

  • Hi there,

I have the N140 with Win XP Home Edition that'll either "disappear" or decrease in usability soon, so I understand.

The free one year XP "cloud" computing option is impractical.

Is XP worth buying or will I be forced to upgrade say by 2010?

    I hear Vista's bad.

For simple word procesing and browsing, upgrading RAM and expense of W7 seems too much.

Also, does 2 GB cause netbook to get hot?

    Suggestions appreciated!

  • This message will be 2 messages to bypass the 500character limit!

For the uses you have mentioned XP will be perfectly fine and in fact I'm sure you know someone out there who has XP on disc they no longer need so just install it and be done with it.

Do note that MS will stop updating XP via Windows update in 2012 I believe so it would be best to upgrade to Windows 7,

  • An upgrade edition of Home Premium will cost you about £67 or £30 if you are (or know) a student. Upgrade editions will allow you to install a fresh copy of 7 but by installing an upgrade edition you have to accept the EULA which states you need to have a legit copy of a previous Windows version in your ownership - which you do ;)

2GB won't affect heat at all.

  • You guys with the problems of differing battery sizes both from Argos, I can explain: Argos sell 2 versions, a black one which is £239.99 and comes with a 3 cell battery, and a white (more expensive) one, with a 6 cell battery.

NB: I got my black 6 cell battery one from PC World it was 259.99, with 20 quid cashback

  • Heyy theya mate..!!

i've got a problem!! please helpp...i duno wats rong with my battery its charging Lights remain on all the time even tho there is no Current supply to it!

    cheers :P

  • Maybe you've got it on sleep mode?

  • noo i have it turned off properly..removedt he battery n plugged it bak in ..n the light goes on again.. :( no Computer shop was able to fix it ..i think ill get a new battery...

  • my blue one came iwth a 6 cell. also use a credit card or some kind of plastic card like that to pop out side clips with out breaking them!!

  • hello is this a good netbook

i have bought one on the net

but i just want to no is it good for downloading music, watching videos and just web surfing ?

  • Note to all: Main UK retailers sell the 3 cell nc10.

I have a black 3 cell nc10 and its runs great - but battery life is about 3.5hrs if word processing, but about 2hrs if watching videos.

But I think you can buy a 6 cell battery separately, and just replace the existing one.

  • You were unlucky to get a 3cell one because not all UK retailers sell it with a 3cell, mine was 6cell and certainly I have never herad of any other person getting a 3cell version in the UK.

  • Which retailer did you get your one from?

    I used argos

  • Argos too!

  • NO WAY!

The only one my local branch had was the black one - I asked what battery types there were and was told that they only had one option - 3 cell.

Are you aware of any compatible 6 cell batteries that can be bought separately for the nc10?

  • There's a bunch on eBay although the UK NC10 should come with 6cell so I'd question Argos or find out for sure because they may have the wrong stock!

  • Having re-read their website, it's the white nc10 that has the 6 cell (£279.99), and the black one which has the 3 cell (£249.99).

The white one is internet only - hence why I bought the black one (needed a netbook at short notice, so couldn't wait for a delivery).

But i'll definately be on the lookout for a new battery. Overall the nc10 is great.

  • no i bought mine from dixons and it comes with a 6 cell

  • Well like I said a lot of UK retailers sell it as 3-cell, but they do have the 6-cells available online.

Just saying so as to make people aware that they might not always get the 6-cell.

I'm ordering a 9-cell battery today. Benchmarked at 12hrs lol

  • were r u getting the 9 cell from ?

  • Global Laptop Batteries

Cost me £58.99 including postage & packaging

  • Hi i just bought one of these and im only getting around 2 hrs from the battery i heard you can get 7 hours could my battery be faulty?by the way im using normal battery performance and its the black 160gb version thanks a lot!

  • Depends where you got it. Quite a few UK retailers are selling 3 cell battery versions rather than the standard 6 cell.

  • maybe youre using the most of the times wifi if not ask an expert

  • I was wanting to get the NC10 but want to make sure I get one with a 6 cell battery, any way to tell by looking at the box? Or maybe a product code to look out for or avoid?

  • well samsung nc10 has one battery option and it's the 6 cell battery

  • actually when I was looking around, a few places were selling one with a 4 hour 3 cell battery. I ended up getting a N120, its a slightly upgraded version of the NC10. It has 5900mAh 6 cell battery

  • i didn't like how the screen doesn't take all the space in the n120 , they made room for speakers .

  • True but the "full size" keyboard makes up for it and 9 hour battery instead of 7. The matt finish is a lot better, less of a fingerprint magnet. Different strokes for different folks though I guess.

  • 6 cell

    MP-NC10-KA01UK

    MP-NC10-KA02UK

    MP-NC10-KA03UK

    MP-NC10-KA04UK

    3 cell

    MP-NC10-KA06UK

    As far as i know

  • Thanks for replying but I ended up going with the N120, basically the same as NC10 but a bit lighter, slightly bigger keyboard, matt finish and 9hr battery.

  • Did you notice a big performance boost when you upgraded the RAM?

  • A small improvement in normal use, excellent for photoshop!

  • It's not absolutely essential. If you're not confident that you're fully antistatic then I guess it's a good measure to take.

  • good video... but i have one problem. normally when performing a memory upgrade is it not vital that you must take the battery out first and unplug any DC chargers? (talking from an experienced point of view)

  • does this work with 4GB ram

  • Some people report it does, I have not tried.

  • To be brutally honest, why hasn't anyone got the 4 gig chips? Yeah they are 100+ but if you have the money, why not?

Hopefully you CAN do 4 gig, and it isn't "limited".......

  • Its limited to 2 gigs bud, the CPU can'y deal with 4 gigs plus iirc the northbridge and southbridge are combined in these tiny netbooks so 4gigs is just not possible with the current technology

  • yeah I'm just putting my foot in the door on netbooks, so yeah lol. Would be nice though. For some reason I think if AMD hit the market hard with netbooks, the 2gig issue would be fixed as well as a dedicated graphics card, I sent them an email and they still haven't replied, so I think they are taking what I sent them in deep regards. usually they just send a "thank you, we forwarded this to the right department" but this time, I got nothing, which to me means they actually looked at it. hope!!

  • you could use the 4 gigs and it would probably be the best option cause theres only one ram slot that can easily be accessed, but xp 32 bit can only use 3.5 gigs (if im right) which is still very good for a netbook

  • no, I did some research (prolly should have re-posted) but they are made only for 2Gb max, which is RETARDED to me. You could try to use a 4Gb but supposedly it wont load. Some guy on newegg did it and he posted up how they are only made for 1Gb and 2Gb.

  • Would this upgrade reduce the boot time?

  • 667 MHz or 800 MHz ??

  • It doesn't matter really as it should default to 667MHz but to be safe use 667MHz.

  • The stock RAM is 800mhz

  • Samsung N110 is identical. For me, if I pry open the right side first, then the left side was easier to come up.

Also, I suggested that the user remove the battery first. It is not needed, but, keeps you from accidently keeping power to unit or in standby mode, when your fingers are handling the electronics.

  • Look carfully at the end of the video, the screen says resuming windows :P

This dude was lucky not to fry his laptop

  • Hmm, perhaps it was in hibernation mode. If so, I would think that he would be ok. Anyways, I would still suggest that folks have it unplugged and battery removed... just to remove the chance that someone forgot to shut it down.

  • it was hibernation mode, unless hes running some weird sleep mode i havent heard of haha

  • It was hibernated, which means it was completely off and the contents of the RAM were stored on the HDD. Upgrading the RAM in a powered off state wouldn't hurt a thing.

  • thanks 4 the response, where would u recommend getting the ram from.

  • Any PC shop really, mine is from Novatech

  • What compatible Ram memory should I put in ? What are the noticeable improvements to the laptops performance do you see in the Ram upgrade ?

  • Great video, is the nc10 suitable for work, and apps like word processing, spreadsheets and databses

  • It's more than capable of all that yes :)

  • Thanks for the video!

  • Not really sure, basic recording would be no diff to a normal PC though but it only has a line/mic in socket.

  • I use it for Photoshop, movies, web browsing, classic games (Emulation, Worms WP etc etc) and also other stuff (car diagnostics, tech support for puttingfiles on and other stuff too).

  • can u upgrade the hard drive

  • Yes, an SSD is installable on this

  • Is it 2GB DDR2???

  • Yup!

  • i just got mine... yes. thanks a lot for this video! it helped me! thanks!

  • No problems :)

  • Why douse every ones nc10s F7 and F8's blue!!! Probly lights.

Could i use this guide for installing ram on NC20, because im thinking of getting a NC20 from amazon uk and for £430 i can get 2gb ram, cd/dvd drive and the nc20 white, but i want to know how to install ram on it

    thanks.

  • The same applies for any laptop or net book really, long as the laptop uses SODIMM ram modules.

  • hi ! i wants to ask is what brand (2GB DDR2 RAM) can use on samsung NC10 and which one is better ?thx

  • Mine is unbranded RAM, brand doens't really matter!

  • Any brand is fine really

  • Thank YOu !!! this video is really helpful :)

  • thank you so much!

  • thars wrong... it should be the sticker side down... :S i was watching another tutorial and it said that the ram goes sticker side down....

Thanks for the video tho :)

  • It's not wrong at all because not all RAM manufacturers put the sticker on the same side so the video you saw was in fact wrong for advising people that it should be sticker side down.

  • and also, some of them have stickers on both saides.

  • Alright, thanks =)

  • Wheres the best place to get the replacement 2GB - just off eBay?

Thanks for the vid btw, made it look very easy!

  • Any store that sells components will be fine. What you want is a 2GB stick of DDR2 667MHz memory for laptops.

Mine is Novatech branded for example but any brand will be fine/

  • Hi.... Please tell me, can this laptop handle 800Mhz ram or even higher ? because that would be a huge advantage... 1 gb more RAM + an increase at the clock speed!!.... also, is all brands compatible? Corsair, kingston, geil, crucial ect ?

  • Speed would not have any noticeable effect so whether it was 800MHz or 667MHz it would not matter. It's only in benchmarks such as Everest where you'd see a difference but in real world usage and gaming there is none.

The laptop will not run the RAM at 800MHz though, it will default down to 667MHz. (PC5300)

Brand wise virtually any brand is fine.

  • tricky part is damn shitty

  • Hmm?

  • lol 1:20

    hmm what subliminal message?

  • The Dell? (Inspiron 1525)

:p that's my work laptop and it's absolute poop for battery life, mousepad tracking and display quality!
