My Australian cattle dog really loved playing in the snow, too. She liked to run around with her nose in the snow, trying to eat it, and rolling around in it. She really liked chasing snowballs, and she even liked it when we tossed snow on her. We had to put her down over the summer because her legs were so bad, and it makes me sad that she won't get to enjoy the snow anymore. :( But she still had a great, long, happy life, which helps some. :)

@dc619 Well every dog is different and some just don't like baths ;)... Ours doesn't smell at all unless she goes out with the doggiedaycare and digs herself a hole all day, then she gets washed, she doesn't like it but she is used to it so it's not to bad. Only when they shed a lot it's hard to wash them cause everything gets cluthered with dog hair! :D

So are these dogs really as hard as people say to keep up and take care of? The reason i ask is because there is a half grown husky stray that someone found and has offered to give me.. I'd love to have it but i live in a small house with a small yard thats close to the highway... I'd have to keep the dog inside and walk the dog when needed. I'm just not sure how much work they actually require from any other type dog. Hope u can help answer my question. Thx.

@DolittleMccoy hi, husky dogs are usually not recommended for smaller homes / gardens because they need a lot of ecsersize for them to be happy. Husky's are bored very easily and can start to chew on furniture, walls, anything really or breakout of the garden. They are escape artists! If you are able to walk them a couple of times a day, ideally let him run free in a dog park you will not have any problems! :D

@Phoebe20052000 Very true, but I wouldn't recommend letting a husky off the leash, unless you've trained them -really- well... Mine is obidient and trained but very hard headed and if he doesn't feel like coming to me when called, he wont. So just be careful :)

@DolittleMccoy I would say that they need at least two walks a day both of them at least a mile and it would be good if you could jog at least one. plus playing with him/her every chance you get. every day

@DolittleMccoy They are alot of work, and a lot of responsibility, but with the right amount of dedication and time, they will adjust to any lifestyle! My two can be couch potatoes when they want to be! We have TONS of videos of them up, and we answer questions about the the breed all the time! Come check us out if you want!

@DolittleMccoy Their probably the most bittersweet dogs youll ever own. They are beautiful, intelligent dogs, with great personalities. But are very high strung. They run off, chew stuff up, kill every cat, chicken or small dog in the neighborhood, and their fur can be a pain in butt to take care of. With that being said I do not regret at all that I adopted my huskie and had him for over 11 years until he died this august.

@DolittleMccoy Had 3 Siberian's over the past 40 years. A lot of hair to clean up, last didn't like to be brushed or bathed. Their coats have very little lanolin so their is rarely any smell unless they find something to anoint themselves. (dead woodchuck,cow paddy). Daily walk 3-5 miles daily is a good start. And they love to explore:most have no comeback. Not run away just come back on their terms. Can bolt through a barely open door in half a second. Watch the lost/strayed.

@DolittleMccoy The idiosyncrasies of our Huskys is what we loved best. Affectionate (pack animals), intelligent, and a keen interest to be part of everything cannot be outdone. We used to bury the kids in the snow then turn the dog loose for hide and seek. Wish we had videos of the "rescue mission". We never remember the eaten shoes, destroyed pillows, totally demolished trash and can, doors eaten through or the occasional roast, steak or chicken stolen off the counter or the Weber.

@Luuk401 lool, they are friendly, too friendly in my oppinion. i have one husky and one pekingese, and i can say that pekino is agressive as hell. he is small but sometimes so nervious he tries to bite husky who always is so calm and relax. once a kid didnt see him and jump on him,, but evan then he wasnt agressive. i dont think you will be have any problem if you have kids home. mine is so friendly with everyone. get one, you wont regret. i m thinking to get another one too. :))
