I do a lot of designs for print on demand T-Shirt sites, and poster shops, Its not as expensive as you may think. A lot of the main Tee design shops like Threadless/Zazzle et al do alot of Nintendo Parodies, they change the characters just enough to get away with it. Im working on my own Nintendo Parody design to go with my Atari/Spectrum/Gameboy/C64 Parody/homage designs :)

It does have that Acorn Electron platform puzzler kind of feel to it. Like "we couldn't make if fast enough, so we're going to force you to work out puzzles instead"
"You would think baby gorilla ard could stand a little drop perhaps..."
Hahahahha something about dropping a baby Gorilla then it dying, and you blaming the gorilla for it is hilarious to me for some reason. I think I'm a bad person.
DK Jr is a great game. I liked DK and DK 3 more, though.
I played DK Jr only a couple times in the arcade. I had to make due with the Atari 2600 and 7800 versions; the latter being very similar to this NES version.
DK 3 is on NES and the arcade. It's not a platformer; it's a vertical shooter similar to Galaga or Centipede.
Basically, DK breaks into a greenhouse, and unleashes all kinds of flower stealing bugs into the place. You play an exterminator who must use his bug spray to kill all the bugs, and force DK back out of the greenhouse.
I highly recommend checking it out if you get a chance. It's a LOT of fun.
I've played this addictivly on my dingoo a320, still aint got too far lol, still enjoy what bit I can do of it lol I've not got past that second level!
No, it's just a camera pointing at an LCD TV. It's very hard to get a really faithful image, especially when the game graphics are high contrast like this.
When I was VERY young, I loved King Kong, specifically the 1979 movie, because that was the movie that always seemed to be on when I was a tiny lad.
So, naturally I was very drawn to the original Donkey Kong.
However, it was Donkey Kong Jr that i would call my first ever MUST play game. Now, you have to realize that the idea of a little baby Donkey Kong along with the Saturday morning cartoon show made this VERY appealing to children.
That was some skilled gameplay Steve. The gameplay in these titles, as you say, is so pixel perfect, it takes me a thousand tries before I can finish one level.
It almost looked like you mastered the game at the ending and then you jumped into the bird or whatever it is.
I've tried the game a few times and didn't really like it. The game is to unforgiving. One mistake and you're dead and have to go through the whole level again. It's just too annoying.
Nice Vid Steve, not had a do on this for ages.

Haha... now that's an idea :D
Such a shame getting T-Shirts printed for sale online ends up with prices so high that no-one will buy them. Nintendo'd probably lay an egg anyway.
But damn, that really would look good.

YT's screwing comments up. All 3 show up at my end, but I'm assuming none show up at your end.
I may look into the T-Shirts thing... a few well chosen Benwayisms might prove popular on T-Shirts :)

I like Mario as the bad guy here.

He's always the bad guy in my book... I can't stand him. Donkey Kong on the other hand is way cool :D

I was rooting for you all the way till your demise by the bird at the top, It's still seems a bit slow gameplay wise :(

@pocketmego I'd never considered the impact of a cartoon, but yes, I can see how that would boost its appeal to the right age group no end.

Yeah the same guy who voiced Scrappy Doo voiced DKjr.
pocketmego 1 year ago
@pocketmego I'd have thought that'd put kids off watching. Scrappy Doo was *SO* annoying.
SteveBenway 1 year ago
And I agree, and I hated Scrappy as a kid as much as anyone. But, for some reason the idea of DKjr as a cartoon just over-rode that annoyance. LOL

I really like the donkey kong jr version, although i've not played this on the nes and it looks rather challenging. :)
Chipsturs 1 year ago
I actually quite liked this game back in the day. Especially because it came packed in with the original Donkey Kong NES cart.
For a little monkey the little creature is very inflexible and accident prone....
5/5

@markvergeer I'd definitely cool having it bundled with Donkey Kong. I don't think I'd buy it on it's own though.

that always angered me how they could not even jump the smallest distance and then just died, mario was the same way
vipor29 1 year ago
@vipor29 It's definitely frustrating, coz after playing other platformers, you rather expect jumps like that to be possible.
