  • Nice....

  • You broke the law !! ...LAW!!!!!!

  • This is one of the most brilliant games I've ever played, and it's only about 10 levels. PLEASE make more. I'll donate if you start a new project.

  • Great soundtrack, donated some money to you guys... not to 'pay for the game' but to pay for the enjoyable hour or so of entertainment I got out of it. Great work, this game is truly amazing... and I built a tower of heaven knock off in Minecraft :P

  • Bought the soundtrack for whatever ($5?), proceeded to distribute it to my friends. Sharing is caring! (My favorite is when they enjoy it enough to buy themselves a copy, too.)

  • I bought it ;)

  • @mastermantrox Thanks for the support!

  • If the book of laws shatters, how come gold bricks still kill you in the last stage?

  • @luteus77 Heh, I was wondering that too when the game first came out. This issue is fixed in the updated Flash version of the game.

  • The one reason I keep coming back to this game is simply for the music. It's just perfect.

  • @MyPhantomile Thanks!

  • Awesome music FG! I just happened to stumble upon the OST while looking for hip hop instrumentals. I'm gonna have to check this game out.

  • @DetectiveTuesday Thanks, glad you enjoyed!

  • If the 5 laws applied to my life. My reactions:

Law 1) I've never even SEEN a golden brick. Crisis averted.

Law 2) So I can't lean against walls anymore? Kinda sucks, but I'll live.

Law 3) Which left? This world is 3 dimensional, left and right change based on the perspective viewpoint used. Again, crisis averted.

Law 4) Oh that's a dick move! I can't pet my kitty or hug my mom anymore! =(

Law 5) Who cares? Tablet, meet sledgehammer! *CRASH* All laws are nullified! WHERE'S YOUR GOD NOW?!

  • Thank you so much for creating such wonderful music. I cannot stop listening to it.

  • Does anyone else think it's weird that you still can't touch yellow blocks after the book shatters? Oh well.

  • @maksie88 I thought so too. This issue is resolved in the updated Flash version of the game, however.

  • And that's the game the brought me here.

Is there any more of this game after level 11? I got all secrets in the first play through and I'm worried that I got the special good ending and missed out on the normal one.

  • @JapanForSale The special ending is pretty much the same as the regular ending except with additional scenes and slightly altered text. You didn't really miss anything, so don't worry.

  • Huh... I know in the newgrounds version in level 11 the golden blocks were skulls, but since they are gold/yellow in the playthrough and the Book of Laws shatters, wouldn't that mean you could have walked on them?

  • @Rur539 That was a problem in the original game. The yellow blocks still killed you after the rules were nullified in the original version, hence the decision to change them to a different type of block in the new version.

  • WAIT A SEC!

you walked left at 3:45! HOW DID YOU NOT DIE?

  • @bubblesishot46853 "The book of laws shatters."

  • @flashygoodness

oh. I thought that meant you can't look them up anymore.

Also, you are awesome at making music! I love it!

  • very beautiful game. i loved it when i played it.

  • Hey flashygoodness,

this game is amazing, as well as it's soundtrack. I've been recently using the Magical 8-bit plug in FL Studio, and I was wondering, how to you get the closed hi-hat sound? I figured out all of the drum-pieces except for that.

    Your help is greatly appreciated!

  • @665yoman Set it to noise, use the decay knob to make the decay happen really fast, then simply use a high pitched note.

  • @flashygoodness Thanks!

  • @flashygoodness Haha oops, 665yoman is my other account... I commented with this one by accident XD

     But thanks

  • Did you get inspiration for your music from Chrono Trigger or Kingdom Hearts? Because part of the intro music (The Lonely Tower) has parts that sound like music from each of these games.

  • @Chucknorrisaurrus Not to my knowledge.

  • I've been trying to speed run the tower and achieve no deaths... but I always screw up around the last or second to last level... I needa more practice.

  • You're an absolute amazing composer. I hope to be that good someday!

  • You ran into the Side of the block, You sir are amazing for being the composer of this AMAZING game... :D

The music in the last level makes me think of a barren-war-broken wasteland... It's amazing what people could think of when this music comes into my mind..

  • AMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAZING SOUNDTRACK OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!

  • is it possible to get a longer version then 1 min of any of the first tracks

  • The 3DS remake of Cave Story interview had stated that a "very good composer" was doing its music. For some reason, you came to mind. By some chance, would you be the awesome composer they were referring to? I would not be surprised! xD

  • @Lishy1 Haha... I wish. It would be so amazing if I got an opportunity like that, but no. I have high hopes for the 3DS remake's soundtrack, though. They might have learned from their mistakes on the Wiiware version.

  • I never hear a retro style song like this its just amaizing O.o LOVE! IT !

  • @nindocomic Glad you like it!

  • @flashygoodness i visited your site and is cool especially the newest song :D

  • Amazing music! I just have a question: What program was the music created in?

  • @utubepenguins It was made in FL Studio.

  • @flashygoodness Oh, cool! Thanks for telling me! =)

  • @flashygoodness

What tipe of plug in did you use to make that NES SOUND?

    It`s freaking awesome

  • @FCKundo 3xOSC in FL Studio and Magical 8bit Plug. Google it up!

  • It's fixed in the flash, but there's an error here =P.

If all the laws are broken, shouldn't you be able to touch the yellow blocks on the last level?

  • @yannyboyy Haha, I was complaining to the developer about this problem before the original version came out. I was in charge of debugging/programming the Flash version, so I fixed this issue myself.

  • I love the hell out of the soundtrack for this, I keep it on my PSP to listen to whenever.

I'd love to hear more of your stuff like this.

  • @Kuroinokaze Thanks!

  • Your music is just so awesome

it's to the level of Chuck Norris awesome.

  • flashygoodness you did an incredawseome job on the music

love every single song but especially the "atop the world" one with the the piano

  • Great job composing the music! Every song was beautifully made :)

  • As being composer myself, I have to say this soundtrack is very beautiful. It sounds 8-bit, and everyone knows 8-bit music is the best music!

May the Godderfly* bless you! (*poopskinTheLiar's epic name for the villain!)

  • @Nitromatic Glad you enjoy it! However, I would call it chiptune rather than 8bit, because it's not reproducible on actual 8bit hardware. I used FL Studio to make this, and the audio quality far exceeds what is possible on a Gameboy or NES. "8bit style", on the other hand, might be a nice term to use for this soundtrack. :)

  • Your music is God tier

  • "The book of laws shatters." - One of the best. Quotes. Ever.

  • the third song is my favorite...song of triumph really

  • Stairway to Revelation is 8-bit Power Metal :D

    Heck, the entire soundtrack is

  • I love the music you composed for this game! ^-^

  • The songs were great, you have a real talent for 8bit music. I have added the credits theme to my permanent playlist. Thanks bro.

  • Amazing Soundtrack. I liked all the songs, but the credits one was the one i liked most. The piano makes it very beautiful and fits perfctly with the ending of the game. And the version that plays at the secret ending is very beautiful too. You are an awesome composer, keep up the good work!

  • I remember this game! One of the best I've ever played. Nice music. Planning to get the soundtrack.

By the way, has anyone ever tried to beat the last stage without breaking any laws? I was tricked into doing it by a random youtuber who said that "respecting his laws" would get a secret ending. Man, that was ridiculously hard.

  • Flashy, if you were to produce music for PS3 titles, I can surely guarantee you that I would buy them. This is some of the greatest game music I've ever heard, especially the song at 3:30, absolutely incredible. Lemme know if your music ever makes it onto the PSN or PS3, I'd love to cover your game.

  • The soundtrack for Tower of heaven was quite impressive, it really created the somewhat-retro-yet-gamey atmosphere which made this game so interesting. Graphics and gameplay mechanics were top notch as well. My only real complaint is the ending, which felt a little rather cliche. Anyhow... Kudos, I'm downloading the soundtrack!

  • @Shaihuluid Thanks, glad you liked it!

  • Stairway to Revelation is an absolute master piece. It flows so nicely, and has the taste of both danger, boding, and adventure all at the same time. I can't get enough of it...

  • @EdikShepherd Thanks a lot!

  • I know I may not be the first who thinks or specifies this, but I honestly think that Tower of Heaven is a true masterpiece, flashygoodness :) Also the music was very revealing, especially the fact that you made it in 8-bit. Both, the game and the music, made me feel incredible, relaxed me and somehow revealed a feeling of freedom and immortality in God's hands. Looks like you have a gift. A gift of revelation. I will wait for your next releases. Congrats! With respect, SweetTobi999 :) ^_^

  • @SweetTobi999 I'm very glad to hear that! The game itself is great thanks to Aski and Godsavant, the programmer and artist. The music was really fun to do, and it makes me remember my passionate childhood dreams to create my own games or music for games. Now I'm slowly beginning to realize these dreams.

    Anyway, thanks a lot!

  • Awesome! Such massive and heavy sound :) Game looks really original too.

  • @GoblinsGuild Thanks!

  • flashygoodness, first of: EXCELLENT soundtrack! Very athmospheric and reminded me of GB games. I have two questions: 1. You have made a track called Candylusional, I can't seem to find that tune in this game, so my question is: where is it? :D Question 2 is, what VST/sounds did you use making this kind of music? I would very much be able to make these kinds of sounds. =)

  • @zyffe Thank you very much.

    1. Candylusional and other songs I've composed are for my own solo game project, not Tower of Heaven. Check flashygoodness. com for these songs and the stories they tell.

    2. FL Studio's 3xosc plugin and Magical8bit plug. Both are free!

  • Every time Godderfly enstates a law the first thing i do is break it.

  • @poopskinTheLiar That is the best nickname for this antagonist that I have ever heard.

  • @flashygoodness By the way, i have a question - During development, did you compose any tracks that never got used in the final product? If you know, were there any levels or plot elements that got left on the cutting room floor?

(Personally, my favorite track in the OST is 'Stairway to Revelation'.)

  • @poopskinTheLiar Every song I composed was used in the final game. However, there were supposed to be four level themes rather than three. We ended up cutting several levels from the game, so only three level themes were made. However, for the Flash version I created a fourth level theme: Pillars of Creation, for user-made custom levels.

  • @flashygoodness Why were levels cut? The tower looks so much bigger on the outside! It makes the whole climb kind of anticlimactic.

  • @unknown145 Mainly to balance the game; too many levels and not enough new laws meant people would get tired of it too soon. Askiisoft decided to keep the game shorter to keep it enjoyable without being repetitive.

And hey, you never know just how long those stairs are.

  • @flashygoodness But so long as there's good level design and your awesome music, it would be more enoyable than adding new laws like "Thou shalt not stand still" or " Thou shalt not touch the right side of blocks" even if it does seem like something Godfly might do.

  • @poopskinTheLiar

Purposely? Cause I know I did too... but not on purpose...

  • What was the inspiration for the soundtrack? Other GB era chiptunes? If so, which ones notably. Fantastic soundtrack btw.

  • @DasOberJagan Yup. I'd say Capcom was the biggest influence. Mega Man and such. However, I was also influenced by Mario Land 2, Pokemon, and Game and Watch Gallery. Those were the three Gameboy games of my childhood. Oh, memories... And thanks!

  • @flashygoodness The track that plays during the credits, there is one part that reminds of Chrono Trigger. Intentional inspiration? Or just coincidence?

  • @DasOberJagan I never intended to reference Chrono Trigger. Where in the song do you find any similarity?

  • @flashygoodness The first 15 seconds or so of Atop The World (I think that is it :P especially the piano version) sound like it. And the song Chrono Trigger from Chrono Trigger.

  • I realized that a very similar section exists in just about every single track.

It always plays at the beginning of the track.

  • @blasphemymaster That's right. I love leitmotifs.

  • @flashygoodness

I looked it up, I had no idea there was a name for that.

  • YOU'RE FLASHYGOODNESS?!

Dude, I'm a huge fan of your music! I had no idea you made the Tower of Heaven music. It's cool that you made music for Tower of Heaven before it was a flash game, and when it was only for GM.

What program do you use to make music? Reason?

  • @blasphemymaster Thanks! I actually helped program the Flash version, btw! I created the entire level editor interface and level format.

I used FL Studio to compose all these songs.

  • @flashygoodness

Wow, thanks. How was the game "ported" to Flash from GM though? Was it just re-made, because that would take a LOT of work.

It's an honor to have you reply to me by the way.

  • @blasphemymaster No prob. Yeah, the game was reprogrammed from scratch in Flash. I helped with the programming, doing numerous bugfixes and creating the unlockable level editor. It was a ton of work; I spent about 100 hours on the programming over the summer!

And nah, I'm not that significant or great. Believe me, heh.

  • @flashygoodness

    You are pretty great man.

Especially since you've devoted 100 hours of summer time for others' enjoyment.

I think indie game creation is an extremely humble hobby.

I am interested in transitioning from GM to Flash. I'd like advice, or anything. Do you prefer AS2 or AS3? And what's a good tutorial to help?

  • @blasphemymaster Thanks a lot. I've really cared about this game since I started composing for it, and I didn't want it to be put out as a bad product.

Flash is a good platform for bite-sized games, but not the best for everything. AS2 is a mess of a language; it's more intended for animation purposes and whatnot. AS3 is much more structured and similar to Java, so go for AS3 instead, especially if you have Java experience. A good tutorial: flashgamedojo. com

  • @flashygoodness

    AWESOME! Thanks!

Well, I know to learn AS3 instead of AS2. But I'm still deciding between C++ and Flash. From what I know, C++ is more like GM (which I know), and Flash(AS3) is more like Java.

I will most certainly check out flashgamedojo. I think I may have heard of it before.

  • I would love to have this piano verison at the end of the video.

  • When I played the game a while ago I instantly realised: The music is pure win. And game and music together form a really great retro-experience that is gonna stick in your head. Everybody involved here did a great job.

I wonder if there are ways to try out chiptune music myself. Have always been a fan of it and lot of stuff from C64 era, old Nintendos and Co still amaze me throughout the decades... Keep it up!

  • @LKDesign Thanks a lot! Wow, C64... that sure goes way back. Retro awesomeness.

  • Great!

  • "Thou shalt not touch yellow blocks."

*Jumps in to a yellow block*

    Oh you rebel

  • Fantastic soundtrack. I discovered the game right around the time where I was starting to work with programs like famitracker. Your music is really starting to inspire me. I love how the songs have that ascending feel that really matches the atmosphere. Also, would this be technically possible to be on the gameboy, or are there too many voices? I don't know how many sound channels a gameboy has so I have no idea.

  • @GreenTeaAT8 Oh nice, Famitracker. Thanks a lot! The Gameboy has 2 square wave channels, 1 programmable channel, and a noise channel. This soundtrack is not possible with a Game Boy. I limited myself to 3 main instruments with 2 echo instruments and 2 noise channels, so it would work on two Gameboys playing at once, I guess. The primary reason I didn't try to limit it was we were aiming to create an experience rather than imitate a system perfectly.

  • You must make an instrumental version of this song.

  • You have made amazing music. The music was phenomenal as well nostalgic because it brought back memories of my old GameBoy, especially the track "Atop the World". I was rendered speechless when I heard the piano in the extended bonus ending. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

  • The music in this game is phenomenal, it's actually what drew me in to play it! If you don't mind me asking, how did you make the tracks for this game? Did you play the game first and decide how to compose it, or did you have one track and remix it based on the game, or was it all already developed? Just curious, and again excellent work! :D

  • @TheWolfLucario Thanks a lot! I used FL Studio. I was given the story to the game and a demo, and I composed the ending piano theme first. Then I remixed that song into multiple other tracks.

  • Reminds me of Cavestory/Doukutsu Monogatari..

  • is there a piano version of the song? i really loved it

  • @n0obiez Yes there is. The sheet music will soon be available to those who purchased the Tower of Heaven OST!

  • I really like the chiptune style of your entire soundtrack. It generally fits the current scenario and has sad as well as upbeat tones to it. I'm strongly considering to buy it, but a bit hesitant knowing that I may end up ditching and forgetting about it, as I have the tendency to do with most pieces of music. And it's just too good to be forgotten and residing in a lonely folder on my hard disk.

  • @pulchritudovitae Thanks! I love creating things that are both happy and sad. Bittersweet is my favorite taste.

  • I just want to thank you for the great music in this game, i'll probably buy the soundtrack ^^ Truly inspiring, and again, thx

  • @Fmania5 Thank you very much. =) I'm glad you enjoyed it, and I appreciate your support!

  • Your music is orgasmic :D

  • the music is top notch! espesh the level 11 sweetness

  • @hardcorecrispy Thank you. :)

  • I really love the soundtrack. Best $1 I've ever spent.

  • @sahkovalo Thank you very much :)

  • I really want the piano sheets for the ending

  • The music was good for a while but just got really annoying dude. But I was also frustrated. I was stuck on level nine for like 15 minutes and I shut my speaker off. Now I'm stuck on level 11. Damnit lol.

  • @gameman64141 Did you get the secerts?

  • DAMN YOU LEVEL NINE, DAAAAAAMN YOOOOOU.

  • personally, it reminded me of the megaman battle network soundtrack.. ahhh so nostalgic.

  • @13NickO37 Mega Man music, heh. It's been a large influence on me. The MMBN series had some nice music... especially in MMBN3, the first game in that series I played. Best MMBN battle theme ever.

  • @flashygoodness holy crap, mmbn 3 was my first of the series too! and i agree, it had an amazing storyline, explaining hub and all that.. it just amazed me far more than any other battle network =P

  • @13NickO37 Man, I know! The story was unusually dark and deep for a Mega Man BN game... and the music was the most memorable in the series. It was one of the few games to feature a 3rd and epic battle theme, for rival bosses, I believe. Man, I want to play that game all over again now. :D

  • This game is a reminder of the importance that music has in driving not only the gameplay, but the story of the game as well.

This would have been a hot sell if it were in the Game Boy era and it being a tad bit longer.

  • @funnyhomeboy1 Thank you. :) I really tried to give the game an atmosphere with its music. And heh, I'm glad you think so!

  • Your music was definitely amazing!

  • @AnttiApinaPro Thanks :)

  • this games ost remind anybody of the soundtrack from cave story?

  • @iburyyoass I thought it was more reminiscent of NES games like Mega Man, myself.

  • I really loved this soundtrack! <3

  • @elchi2103 Thanks! :)

  • oh my god... this music is amazing. It's... flawless... please... How can I download this? I want this music. It's so refreshing. This music is like the thing I've been searching for. Please.

  • @TheAccountification Thanks a lot! I just updated the video description with a link to the album's official page. It only costs $1, hope you can afford that!

  • @flashygoodness Sadly, i'm not advised to use my credit card online. I only trust iTunes really. Which sucks. You should put the album on iTunes, seriously. I'd pay the 12 bucks for it.

  • @sharpnova2 No, i just have a taste for music and videogames. Keep your comments to yourself, jackass.

  • @TheAccountification No. I think my point is that your taste.. your whole demeanor about music and video games was embarrassingly childish.

And if I wanted to keep my comments to myself.. I don't think I'd be on YouTube.. which is a website where everyone comments, lol.

People like you (fags, nerds, people of low intelligence) are the type of people that keep people like me (winners, geniuses, pros) in business.

  • @sharpnova2 "Look at me! I'm being an edgy, tough guy on the internet! I'm so awesome and you aren't! Look at me use these big words in my attempt to sound like an authority of some sort!" :B

  • @sharpnova2 Wow, you have just proven to everyone you are a child of the smallest brain capacity. I've heard countless comments like that on YouTube, of people who think only highly of themselves and have no regard for others. If you're that way in real life, I have no doubt in my mind that you won't get much farther in your life. Learn to stop being an asshole and to stop diminishing a person's passion. Also, why would you call homosexuals low lives? Have you no brains or heart.

  • @TheAccountification Ahh well. This is YouTube, one of the best hangouts for some of the silliest people on the internet. :P

  • @flashygoodness There's people like that on YouTube who are ignorant, idiotic, and selfish and people like you who are the true winners. Anyway, good job on the music. I hope I can purchase the soundtrack on the website, and if not, then maybe I'll find it on iTunes one day. lol Excellent job. Very catchy, very influential, very inspiring.

  • @TheAccountification Thanks again. Anyway, I think they just have confidence issues in real life. When someone starts trolling, they do it because their real lives are lacking or nonexistent. I sort feel bad for them sometimes, you know? That said, the best way to deal with such people is to ignore them and treat them like they're not a big deal. :)

  • @flashygoodness Wise words. Thanks again. good luck on your music career.

  • the music is amazing

    what do you use? chiptunes?

  • This music is simply outstanding. It has this very mixed feel to it, one one hand, it sounds like a piece of Megaman music, on the other hand, it feels like an epic tale telling the journey of our adventurer, on the third hand (O_o) it has this sense of being on-edge, that something is not right (in this case, the mad god).

  • @Meehuuu Thanks a lot!

  • @flashygoodness You're welcome. Also, I found your deviantart page today, and honestly, your work is so good that I listened to the entire playlist at least 3 times :O. You're the best indie composer I have ever laid my... ears on.

  • @Meehuuu Ahh I'm really glad to hear that. :) Thank you very much!

  • This music is incredible !

  • I would love to see a video of you playing the ending song on piano. It would be great!

  • The music was amazingly catchy! I specially dig the ending theme too!

  • Damn, I love the music, I wish I was this good at composing :)

  • for a kaizo game...nay, for a game at all, this had one of the best stories I've seen, and the music only made it better

  • @oAzREZNoR Thanks a lot!

  • The music for this is mindblowing, I can't stop listening to it.

  • @Priderage Thanks a lot! There is a Flash version of the game coming out soon... And I've composed some new music for it!

  • Damn. Are you this good at platformers in general?

    Awesome work, btw.

  • @EctInc Thanks! I've just played through this game many times, as I beta tested the game while I composed for it. I can easily beat it without ever dying now.

  • Comment removed

  • I played this game for a really short time then I had to uninstall it becasue something didn't cooperate with my computer. Any ideas?

  • @10998eureka Well... lucky for you, there is a Flash version of this game coming out soon! Check back on this video for updates.

  • very good. very peaceful.
