  • this is cabin pressure, written by john finnemore...:-)

  • @RuleNr34 "starring Stephanie Cole as Carolyn, Roger Allam as Douglas, Benedict Cumberbatch as Martin and John Finnemore as Arthur. This week: Gdansk!" ;)

Gdansk = one of my favourites. :D

  • @MagneticGravity Yes! Madame Shushushka Bahush!

  • Glink and you miss it !

  • I've always like this. There's a feeling of being right on the edge of runaway enthusiasm or the discovery of great joy.

  • ayyyyyyy q linda musicaa la adorooo!! y si un dia tengo una perrita de seguro la llamare Glinka, bello nombre sobre todo si es rusa de ojo azul :)

  • 1st appearance of the whole tone in history!

  • great love story with fighting and a happy ending :)

  • Witam to jest moja rodzina w ,śladach pradziadka tworze muzykę ale bardziej Disco prrra dziadek był kul

  • My orchestra is doing this and I am the only horn for four parts. I love this song but it gets frustrating at times.

  • cute composer--kind of baby faced handsome. great overture.

  • Hmmm actually Ruslan is a male name and it is a Turkic version of Arabic name that means LION but not Russian and has nothing to do with Russian.........and Ludmila is spelled with one L.

So please rewrite the name of the video...

  • This is damn fast...

  • Pray that your conductor never chooses this, it's a nightmare

  • @Gojira1123 haha mine just did it lol

  • @Gojira1123 too late im screwed playing first :/

  • My high school orchestra played an arrangement of this and I loved it!!

  • Oh great.... it really is as fast as my director said it was..... I'm screwed.

  • @ShadyNightCrow true dat *dies*

  • @ShadyNightCrow I have actually played this in an orchestra... It is pretty fast, very fast actually. I play timpani and didnt have much trouble with it. What do you play?

When my director introduced this he said, "The violins are happy that they are getting paid by the semiquaver." as a joke, funnily enough the violins don't have one single semiquaver. Fastest is quavers. At Minim = 132 it makes sense.

  • @frieddimsims I play the viola, and the beginning is practically the same as the violins. It's so awesome. And fun to play if you can keep up with it. We tried it at full speed today, and it was SO FUN!!!!!!!! Practically everbody was laughing, trying to keep up! Funniest thing ever.

    (VIOLA POWAAAHH!!!!)

  • @ShadyNightCrow

This is actually a pretty concervative tempo for this piece. ;)

  • my high school played this at orchestra hall. Definitely one of my favorite pieces

  • my fave! just played it for my youth group concert. though i didn't have this one for my audition, i had the Dvorak symphony 8 to sightread.

  • my fave!

  • Part of my freshman year audition for Double Bass was 0:01 to 0:15. What a beating that was. :)

  • @Cleric2145 I know exactly how you feel my friend. I'm a junior in high school, and I had this as my final exam piece. I play cello so, I had from 0:01 to 0:15 and also from 1:04 to 1:35. And this piece does kill you to play.

  • this one is slower?

  • This Is My Field Show for this year! Its amazing

  • This is one of our songs for our fieldshow this year.

    I'm super excited(:

  • This is coming to Rock Band soon.

  • @poopsmif hahaha lmfao XD

  • Went to a Symphony a while back and this is the first song they played and i loved it so much!! Very amazing and energetic lol

  • What a way to start Russian music.

  • Can somebody PLEEEEEEEEEASE correct the tile of this post...? This is RUSLAN AND LUDMILLA!!

  • I remember playing this song last year for orchestra.... But definately not as fast as this... o.o;;

  • @leporello

your right... it is a bit slow (not too much though)

    @22quack

It's easy as a cellist... just hide behind the violins ;P

  • So hard to play. My hand locks up when i do the 1/8 notes

  • For us Brits it's more entertaining as our name for your 1/8 notes is "quavers", which is also the name of some cheese flavoured crisps

  • @22quack

    yah, OUCH.

not a very nice audition piece

  • @YellowFlower296 yeah it isnt i had to play this as an audition for our allstate orchestra and well i didnt make

  • ah-! love this piece. playing it for orchestra this year =D (i'm a bassoonist; the one and only, actually). we're playing it for NYSSMA. seems to be a favorite for such things, what with this talk of IMEA as well.

wish the rest of the ensemble appreciated this overture as much as i do.... ah well.

  • @blindroulette You're playing this piece for NYSSMA? Very cool! I played this piece I remember one or two years back in Area All State Orchestra. It was very difficult having to play those fast runs at the begining in the 1st violins part. I absolutely love the piece though.

  • I think its a little slow...

  • This piece is very beautiful

  • This is actually called RUSLAN not russian and Ludmilla. RUSLAN is an actual male given name.

  • @AChtChtCht I also saw that big mistake!! Learn Russian!!

  • I also saw that big mistake!! Learn Russian!!

  • Just heard the District 9 IMEA orchestra play this today (11/21/09). It was wonderful!

  • Illinois Music Educators Association

We did Russlan and Ludmilla my freshman year, I can't believe it's been that long!

  • I'll probably look like a fool asking this, but

    What is IMEA

  • IMEA violist. Auditions are this monday. I'm pumped :P

  • wow so weird, i am a violist too, and i auditioned and got in! so strange to see someone like me on vast youtube...

  • IMEA in a week! Ewsie!

  • LISFA violin! WHOOP WHOOP!

  • Im a Baritone :|

  • IMEA violin =/

I have it nowhere near that speed though lol

  • haha!

    IMEA cello here :D

  • imea violin here

  • doing this for imea bass

  • i have to play this for imea ): very hard

  • Haha yeah, I do too!

The song itself isn't difficult, it's just the speed that gets you.

That's my opinion at least. =P

  • I played Oboe in Orchestra in High School in 1970, we played this at the MENC Music Educators National Conferance. That's How good we were.

72 piece High School Orchestra. I'll never forget it.

  • I heard this music in MBC in Korea , and since then I TRIED TO FIND THIS MUSIC , but I didn't know the title...

  • moving, beautiful, powerful, delicate.

  • One of the greatest versions I´ve heard of this piece :D thank you so much for uploading!

  • I think Reiner's is the best, though.
