@RuleNr34 "starring Stephanie Cole as Carolyn, Roger Allam as Douglas, Benedict Cumberbatch as Martin and John Finnemore as Arthur. This week: Gdansk!" ;)
Hmmm actually Ruslan is a male name and it is a Turkic version of Arabic name that means LION but not Russian and has nothing to do with Russian.........and Ludmila is spelled with one L.
@ShadyNightCrow I have actually played this in an orchestra... It is pretty fast, very fast actually. I play timpani and didnt have much trouble with it. What do you play?
When my director introduced this he said, "The violins are happy that they are getting paid by the semiquaver." as a joke, funnily enough the violins don't have one single semiquaver. Fastest is quavers. At Minim = 132 it makes sense.
@frieddimsims I play the viola, and the beginning is practically the same as the violins. It's so awesome. And fun to play if you can keep up with it. We tried it at full speed today, and it was SO FUN!!!!!!!! Practically everbody was laughing, trying to keep up! Funniest thing ever.
@Cleric2145 I know exactly how you feel my friend. I'm a junior in high school, and I had this as my final exam piece. I play cello so, I had from 0:01 to 0:15 and also from 1:04 to 1:35. And this piece does kill you to play.
ah-! love this piece. playing it for orchestra this year =D (i'm a bassoonist; the one and only, actually). we're playing it for NYSSMA. seems to be a favorite for such things, what with this talk of IMEA as well.
wish the rest of the ensemble appreciated this overture as much as i do.... ah well.
@blindroulette You're playing this piece for NYSSMA? Very cool! I played this piece I remember one or two years back in Area All State Orchestra. It was very difficult having to play those fast runs at the begining in the 1st violins part. I absolutely love the piece though.

My orchestra is doing this and I am the only horn for four parts. I love this song but it gets frustrating at times.

For us Brits it's more entertaining as our name for your 1/8 notes is "quavers", which is also the name of some cheese flavoured crisps
