Ho i brividi oggi nel rivedere la tappa come allora vedendo la diretta...dopo Marco il ciclismo non ci ha più regalato emozioni così...Ci manchi Pirata!!!
They didn't dare to use as much EPO after 1998. Many probably didn't have access to the alternative doping some like Armstrong had. Not that Jullich was clean in 2000, but such a performance drop is to be expected.
I remember watching this during my first year of road cycling. I had finally found a sport where a man as physically small, but determind as myself could make a larger man cry, leaving him far behind.
@UnivegaSuperSport Yeah the feeling you leave somebody behind, the feeling you are stronger, faster, better is one of the greatest feelings I ever had in my entire life!!! But I only won 2 races :s
I was on the final hairpin corner, just over a kilometer from the finish line. Got soaked and cold waiting in the rain, but forgot all that when the race eventually arrived; because of the weather the usual TV helicopters weren't flying, so the roar of the crowd following the riders, like a wave, rolling up the road was even more noticable than normal. Pantani was going so fast that I couldn't photograph him, but I got a good one of Ullrich with Riis and Bölts, looking wasted.
Wow man, thanx for posting these 2 videos! I saw the whole etape back in 1998, what an great afternoon that was! One of the most epic etapes of the tour de France!
@NestorMakhno17 it´s not true!! Because Bahamontes won the Tour at 1959 and he was a pure grimpeur! Another great grimpeur was Fuente, "el Tarangu", comparable with Marco obviously. I invite us to see " le Tre cime di Lavaredo, at 1974" and see this incredible show

He deserves his rest... I'm pretty sure no athlete has pushed himself so much to the limit as him... Monstrous effort from his part... RIP!

I remember watching the race on TV, and thinking that Ullrich pretty much had his 2nd straight TDF title in the bag. This was very much unexpected.
RIP Pantani

What happened to Bobby Jullich ? Shouldn't he have been "the" American to win the TDF ?
