  • 2:37 is the most telegraphic punch I've ever seen in a MMA match

  • Great camera work dude.

  • @propositionjohnston How would you know? As as always with the new age hippy hoppy type you most likely are you, have no idea. Us "Shodothugs" have been called the same. At least we compete and find out what does and doesn't work.....We don't do aikido and its all brute strength, ya de da de da.... Tell you what geezer, get wise and do yourself a favour, grow up and rid yourself of your delusion because that is what you are suffering from. At least Rik has the balls and can back it up, do you?

  • Rik Ellis next MMA / Cage fight night is at the Mountbatten Centre Portsmouth October 15th 2011 - also on the same card is Jay Dods Ellis.

Visit the - Jay Dods mma blog - or - Rik Ellis mma blog - for ticket details and more information. Jay with a 3-0 record will be facing his biggest challenge to date.

  • For the Aikido purists Rik Ellis will wear a Hakama in his next fight and demonstrate Aikido with ribbons and will prepare himself by breathing through his toes....

  • Rik Ellis vs Chris Head - UK1 MMA / Cage Fight Night

  • billysue. Actually I'm short sighted. But I can see your point and will take what you've said on board. Peace. Take It Easy.

  • Article by Rik Ellis Aikido MMA / cage fighter " Aikido in MMA " on the - Rik Ellis Aikido/MMA blog. -Just my thoughts on the subject.

  • look at other Rik Ellis videos. He got better. There's this one video where he goes against a 6th dan TaeKwonDo black belt and just grabs the punches at the beginning of the match (what you learn with Aikido background). Then applies head lock (MMA techniques).

  • i thought u said he got better?

a headlocks the most amatuer move there is in a fight

  • I was talking about the way he grabbed those punches in the other video. I never seen anyone else do that; grab punches right out of the air.

  • is a 6th dan in taekwondo supposed to be impressive?

  • That isn't the point. :) It's the other way around. Aikido is supposed to be useless. But it isn't.

And yeah 6th dan Taekwondo is good. But I suppose it depends on the guy who uses the techniques and not just the 6th dan belt.

  • anything tae kwon doe isnt impressive, because its fuckin useless in a real fight.

  • I agree but that is mainly because of the way TKD is taught and practiced, I know some old guys that are old school and hard core. They call like American - Adapted or some BS like that ( I am not 100% sure they call it ) Supposed to be adaptations from what guys stationed in Japan & Korea ( in the service ) learned. They are still pretty bad, they FIGHT every time in class, no katas, no stretching ( they do that on their own BEFORE class ) just hit pads, bags, ( sometimes ) & FIGHT !

  • @DandDskeeto there are no katas in tkd, thats karate. If they dont do "KATAS" it aint tkd theyre doing, its kickboxing.

  • @Martialsmash 6th dan in tkd is gained by doing a few patterns and breaking some inanimate objects, that is it.I could pass it with a few months training and i havent done tkd in 10 years.Dan grades mean nothing in most martial arts.AIikido is useless.

  • @billysue2

You're funny. My comments were from 1 year ago. Now I've been training Aikido for a year now. I have a greater understanding of it and now I'm sure that it is useful. Here take a look at this video and the first three vids in the series will explain why Aikido does work.

    watch/?v=8H5kG_3UqEM

  • @billysue2 useless? really???

  • @antidj00 useless in mma,ive seen it used effectively insecurity situations where rstraint was important. You will never in your wildest dreams see aikido working in mma.Rick here uses none and has been training his whole life.

  • Rik has an Aikido background but primarily uses standard MMA moves. Rik is the guy in red and black shorts.

3:11 - He was at the bottom but turned the tide

3:45 - He got opponent off again.

4:52 - This time, Rik definitely used an Aikido move. But it was too fast for most people to understand that it's Aikido AND it was off of the camera. The opponent got so angry and charged at him but Rik used Aikido to run opponent into the wall.

  • those are called "sweeps" and they arent Aikido moves.
