My only problem with this is the narration seems a bit superfluous (I don't understand Czech but I know the story well enough). That's unusual for Svankmajer; his films are so visual that the story usually tells itself.
Svankmajer isn't everyone's cup of tea. But he is the father of the stop-motion technique, and some of us think he's wonderful for the image sequences he was able to create that way. It wasn't meant to be Hollywood-style (or even Paris-style) entertainment.
@morganseer I beg your pardon, but J. Stuart Blackton is the father of stop-motion animation. That isn't to say that Svankmajer's animations aren't tremendous--they are, they're some of the best ever made--but he didn't invent stop-motion by any means.
yes it is. it's so awesome i love to read it over and over again and also to hear it here. Petr Čepek was a great actor and his voice here is remarkable
