I like this better, i think maybe it would have been too much(?) with THREE almost exact same songs. The original and FOB are upbeat and exciting and what not and i think it's a nice change with a song that's more "confused" and "a bit scared" of what they have stumbled upon.. I think this song really captures "what IS this?" as someone behind me said : )
I notice a lot of people are comparing this version to Fall Out Boy's, but the fact is, they can't be compared, ass they play on two different emotions. Fall Out Boy's is one of excitement and wonder whilst this version is one of fear and mystery. Compared to the original, I believe they both do the song amazing justice, in their own way.
I think Flyleaf explores the possibility of Sally having discovered Christmastown instead of Jack. I've always enjoyed this rendition. I do like Fall Out Boys' rendition, and enjoy its' energy, and I believe Panic!'s version was just weak, but this one just seems to emit pain at the same time as the joy and confusion displayed in the others, especially Danny Elfman's. I think it's a refreshing twist on the original.
I really like this version. It's true, it's a less ecstatic excitement like the original was but it's a different kind of mystical awe. I think they did a good job. :]
I actually like this song because it is so different from the original. They made this song their own, which I feel is what bands should do when covering. However the original is still the best.
ur going have haters on pretty much everything then have small group or big one hating on that one little fucking song or etc that why say fuck it go home smoke a blunt o wait people hate that too so i guest have get eight ball or herorine and fucking hooker o yeah already see the problem jk ^ ^
i listened to the first set of vocals and well no go flyleaf this song was originaly a very fast paced exciting song with jack poping around everywhere slowing it down really killed it for me = / -sigh- not one of the better of the covers (in my opinion)
@Destry1819 well in your eyes (well ears) the Fall out boy one is better but to some they love the flyleaf one and if you like the Fall out boy then you should listen to that one and not come here and say Fall out boy is better.
Although the the P!atD version captured the cheer of the original, I like this version because it captures the "wtf IS this??!" sort of chaotic quality that always endeared me to the song.
Honestly I really like Flyleaf but this song sucks, Its to depressing Its awesome they tried to make it there own way but it just dosn't fit. This song is supposed to be happy .! Fall out boy made an incredible cover, but Flyleaf you simply FAILD...
I absolutly love the original version of this song, and i love flyleaf, but this is definatly not one of the best songs on nightmare revisted or any of the flyleaf albums, this song is supposed to be upbeat, curious and joyus. instead it sounds like they dont even want to know what it is. Sorry, Dislike.
I like that she tried to make it her own. I like the vocals but something isn't quite clickling. and I still like flyleaf the same and I'm proud she took on the song. it was kinda difficult make it your own and still keep a spirit up. FOB nailed it but that's FOB.
ok yes your intitled to your opinon but why would you go to a video you dont like just to comment and anyways this version has more views and the more you view this to leave your hate coments the more views so you would think you would have some sence to stop
She's got one thing right: "What's this?" because, really, what the *HELL* is this?! FOB was better. They got the spirit of the song right, Flyleaf totally fucked it up.
Personally, I think their version is so magical. Everytime I listen to it, it gives me chills. I feel like I am floating when I hear it. The FOB one is, okay. But, in my opinion it cannot beat the beauty of this version.
@shedoom1 well it on depends on your point of view. this one is really amazing because you can tell that it is about a dark person finding Christmas and i am a big fan of flyleaf so i love this one very much but i love the Fall out boy one because i love the band and i like the fastness. so really its not best o not its what you like the most because its different for everyone
OK please please stop complaining about this amazing song. if you don't like it leave and don't listen to it, if you like the song then like it you don't have to complain because the song isn't pop or fast and if you want fast and don't like this song then go to the Fall out boy one And Please just leave if you don't like it i'm sure No one wants to read about you complaining just because its slow and not your taste in music. Thank you
I think this rendition captures the wonderment intended with the song perfectly. Fallout Boy may have gotten the excitement but this song is so.... dreamy.
I absolutely love the original version. I don't care who does a cover; the original captures Jack's fascination, excitement and curiosity about Christmas town the best. What I really like about Flyleaf's version is that it shows a different side of this astonishment. Like when someone who comes from such a dark world is introduced to a "warm" and happy one, it really is like, What is this?? I never knew that this feeling and this world could exist. I prefer term revised over revisited.
I like the fall out boys version better, it give the effect thats you get in when you listen to the original, this one makes me feel a tiny bit gloomy bit is cool.
people need to STOP saying "i feel depressed now" or "this song sounds to sad" this is a Great song i love it and if you don't then STFU and change the song to something that you like and stop Crying about this song. i personally think she did a amazing job on this song
I think this would have benefited from slowly increasing the tempo through the whole track instead of speeding to each "What's this?" and then slowing back down again. Just speeding up after each verse could have captured his hesitant feeling at first and then his joy as he realized just what he'd stumbled across
Why did Flyleaf cover Sally's instead of this song. It feels like they are trying to catch up to the speed of the original, but can't since its flyleaf (Not saying thats a bad thing in itself, just doesn't work for one of the fastest songs in movie.) >_>
I would say Rise Against, but then I love what they did with Making Christmas. This song is about seeing so many new and interesting sights all at once that he has to keep blurting out "Whats this?". Why couldn't they kept the speed?
Why This is a Good Cover (Note the word "cover"): This is not the original. It is a re-interpreted version. What this cover does very well, at least in my estimation, is evoke a sense of confusion and desperation. The King of Halloween is, essentially, depressed at this point in the movie. When he stumbles upon this place so different from where he's from, he is disoriented and confused by what he sees. This strangeness, however, is exactly what he's been searching for: something different.
@Rayfe17 He's desperate to have whatever this is. He needs it so bad that it hurts. That is the picture that this version of the song paints for me and, while it may not be how the movie plays out, it could have very easily gone that direction and made as much sense stylistically. The song is not "sad" or anything like it. The character of the singer (Jack) has come across something so profoundly different than his own world that he's overwhelmed, overjoyed, and a little afraid at the same time.
For all the people who love the FOB version and complain that this song sucks should go over to the FOB one and let the people who actually enjoy the song have peace.
personally, I don't hate this version of the song, it's got a nice tune, but it was supposed to be such a "WOW! what are these things??" kind of moment, so if this was just a song and not from the movie, I'd probably like it a bit more because then I wouldn't have known that is was supposed to be such a exciting moment. Even though not having the same excitement like Fall Out Boy, this isn't bad.
I'm sorry. But this is just awful. Fall Out Boy all the way. I mean, you could tell there was effort. But like everyone says, the excitement and joy is not captivated by Flyleaf. Flyleaf would have been good for some other song (maybe) just not this one. Her voice is beautiful though.
If you like Flyleaf check out our channel, we are a band that has been compared to Flyleaf, Paramore, and other such bands. We've got two singles out on itunes and are releasing an EP in the near future. If you like our music give us some thumbs up and fan us on Facebook.
@PsionCreed They were a bit too cheery, this one kind of flows better. It is sung a little darker, but the whole film was dark so it meshes rather nicely.
@TheDarkestofHell Considering this one is on the album, i guess someone liked it. But the movie wasn't that dark, it was badass. To me, this version doesn't make jack seem overjoyed with christmas. But i've never been a flyleaf fan myself. But like i said, this one made it to the album, so i can't complain too much.
@PsionCreed Yeah, don't think I said it was bad. If anything you were the one implying that this version failed. I think it works though, the movie actually was dark. It was in a Halloween world, thats pretty dark. Yeah, it was bad ass I won't deny that. Being bad ass doesn't mean it can't be dark.
@TheDarkestofHell Listen up. This is not supposed to sound like it could replace the original soundtracks. This is just a cover on a album. Or something.
what i like most is that every band put their own style into the songs, and that makes it awesome. i for one like this version more than Fall Out Boy's.
the first few times I listened to this it took me completely off guard and I really disliked it... but this being about the fourth time I've tried to listen it, I was in the right frame of mind and I realize that I really freaking love it o.0
Me's perfer Fall Out Boy's version... I agree with alot of others, this is creepy and downbeat which I woul dnormally love alot and I do, but the songs meant to be upbeat, like Fall Out Boy's,
It's not so much creepy as much as it sounds depressive. The original was upbeat, since jack was truly excited to see something new, as was the Fall Out Boy version, but I do agree that this is an interesting take on a great song.
I really love Flyleaf, and I really like this version...buuuuut, I don't think they capture the feeling of the original in it. It's cool that it has a creepier feeling and such, I understand this, but as it being one of my favorite songs from the movie, I honestly like the Fallout Boy version more.(SETTLE DOWN.) Only for the fact that it keeps to the fun and quick pace feel of the original that I love. Of course in my opinion, I like them all a lot. :)
Holy hell...Don't tell me your all in an up roar with Flyleaf's version?! You crazy?
Go listen to Sparklehorse, if you have sense of music, you'd agree this is better than Sparklehorse!
I think this a great song, just because it's diffrent from the orginal doesn't make it less worthy. It's a diffrent outtake on the song...And yes everyone has thier own reasons but don't make such a fuss about it.
In my opinion this is one of best songs on the album.
FUCK UP BAD NO NO NO STOP MAKING FEEL LIKE IM SAD THIS IS SUPPOSE TO BE UP BEAT WITH HAPPINESS AND JOYFUL SOUND BUT THIS UMMM MAKES ME FEEL LIKE IM SAD
Just got shown this album, my God this is the worst cover that doesn't fit in with the fucking theme of the movie. Out of the travesty this album released this track offends me the most. It's perfectly acceptable for artists to cover a song in their own version, but this is absolutely fucking shit.
@ChamesLiverpool Really, and I suppose you think Sparkle Horse's cover of Jack's Obsession or the Town Meeting song on this album were done justice? To me, those were the worst two songs and didn't do the originals justice. This, on the other hand, is perfectly acceptable to me.
I don't mind this cover, I think taking a different take on the song was pretty much the whole point. There's a problem with modern [stupid] society thinking the word "cover" means "karaoke" it doesn't have to sound exactly the same as the original, and in fact, it shouldn't. Though I do hate this album as most of the band's covers just fuel the huge amount of NBC posers their are out there, I also think Flyleaf respects the original film.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
god they really fucked this song up, its supposed to be happy and cheerful, not all demonic sounding!!! amy lee wouldve did this song sooo much better, thumbs up if you agree
@duranaiden15@alyssalovesrock08 Flyleaf is a Christian band, like @duranaiden15 said. And, All-American Rejects and Panic! At the Disco are on this album, too. The point isn't to make it "demonic" or canonical, just to make it seem more like Halloween. You should probably think carefully about what opinion you're trying to make before you (@alyssalovesrock08) write comments that aren't well-founded or supported. Try to be more open-minded and not judgmental.

mmm i must say i am one of the haters in this one. There is no problem with voicing outrage at having your beloved song being raped.

@AnimeLuverM90 I do love this version,,, but isn't it supposed to be happy?? O_o XD XD
DemonicAngel66623 11 months ago
@AnimeLuverM90 It is meant to be happy! Happiness in discovering something which he has been longing for!

i luv this version :P

this is better then the other 1 but thts my opinion :P
AnimeLuverM90 11 months ago
it doesn't fit the the situation. flyleaf missed the target on this one. Far too depressing. Want a better version, try fall out boy
PsionCreed 11 months ago
@PsionCreed They were a bit too cheery, this one kind of flows better. It is sung a little darker, but the whole film was dark so it meshes rather nicely.
TheDarkestofHell 11 months ago
@TheDarkestofHell Considering this one is on the album, i guess someone liked it. But the movie wasn't that dark, it was badass. To me, this version doesn't make jack seem overjoyed with christmas. But i've never been a flyleaf fan myself. But like i said, this one made it to the album, so i can't complain too much.
PsionCreed 11 months ago
@PsionCreed Yeah, don't think I said it was bad. If anything you were the one implying that this version failed. I think it works though, the movie actually was dark. It was in a Halloween world, thats pretty dark. Yeah, it was bad ass I won't deny that. Being bad ass doesn't mean it can't be dark.
TheDarkestofHell 11 months ago
@TheDarkestofHell Listen up. This is not supposed to sound like it could replace the original soundtracks. This is just a cover on a album. Or something.

what i like most is that every band put their own style into the songs, and that makes it awesome. i for one like this version more than Fall Out Boy's.

Flyleaf version- Halloween
Fall out Boys- Christmas
This is how I see how they each sang the song.

FLYLEAF ISN'T JACK. GET IT THROUGH YOUR THICK SKULLS.
They did a good job making it different. I don't want all the covers to be exactly LIKE THE ORIGINAL.

Me's perfer Fall Out Boy's version... I agree with alot of others, this is creepy and downbeat which I woul dnormally love alot and I do, but the songs meant to be upbeat, like Fall Out Boy's,
...as well as they are my favorite band.
ameiliaketchum 1 year ago
Creepy
GoingDude 1 year ago
the both are intresting !! felicitations :)
nibucodonosaure 1 year ago
It's not so much creepy as much as it sounds depressive. The original was upbeat, since jack was truly excited to see something new, as was the Fall Out Boy version, but I do agree that this is an interesting take on a great song.
trench1253 1 year ago
This is a good cover, but the original is SOOOOOO much better.
ScreamxxNobuko 1 year ago

Just got shown this album, my God this is the worst cover that doesn't fit in with the fucking theme of the movie. Out of the travesty this album released this track offends me the most. It's perfectly acceptable for artists to cover a song in their own version, but this is absolutely fucking shit.
ChamesLiverpool 1 year ago
@ChamesLiverpool Really, and I suppose you think Sparkle Horse's cover of Jack's Obsession or the Town Meeting song on this album were done justice? To me, those were the worst two songs and didn't do the originals justice. This, on the other hand, is perfectly acceptable to me.

I don't mind this cover, I think taking a different take on the song was pretty much the whole point. There's a problem with modern [stupid] society thinking the word "cover" means "karaoke" it doesn't have to sound exactly the same as the original, and in fact, it shouldn't. Though I do hate this album as most of the band's covers just fuel the huge amount of NBC posers their are out there, I also think Flyleaf respects the original film.

god they really fucked this song up, its supposed to be happy and cheerful, not all demonic sounding!!! amy lee wouldve did this song sooo much better, thumbs up if you agree
alyssalovesrock08 1 year ago
@alyssalovesrock08 its funny because this doesn't sound demonic and flyleaf is a christian band soooooooooooooo
duranaiden15 1 year ago
@duranaiden15 @alyssalovesrock08 Flyleaf is a Christian band, like @duranaiden15 said.
