@nxsbrute yeah, you can kill someone with a baseball bat too, but baseball is still a sport. There is no such thing as fencing earnestly anymore, except in HES.
@TBaiera When I say in earnest, I mean to assault with the intent of committing murder. Any martial that is not used for that purpose is a sport, not a martial art, by definition. That would be why HES is a martial art, and things like eastern martial arts are technically sports.
please people dont post videos just because you think you know how to fence...you should simply put a video up or a even a message saying..."you want to learn how to fencing go to a good club" not remonstrating yourself. that just increases the number of people that think they know how to fence because they read or watched a video.... and in doing so you are making a mockery of the people, like me, that compete NCAA and on the national/international circuit
She taught it correctly. I have no idea what you are complaining about. This of these as reference guides for fencers. If they wish to perfect their flawed form, then they may seek the good and bad of every video. Every good fencer remembers his/her coach's instruction; hence, this is a very good tool for those who fence.
extending the arm is important, ugh i cant stress how annoying it is to remember. i had this really anal judge once who wouldnt give me a single point because i didn't 'extend' before i stabbed a student from his team. (even though i moved first and attacked first while she stood around musing about life)
your video is very well made but i have two points to make; 1. you need to show the proper way to get back on guard after the lunge 2.you are holding the foil up side down.
You just tell us that must to have the arm extended when you are doing the attack. ("the most important part of your lunge is...." 0:50")And in each one of your demonstrations (in the other videos) you finish extending your arm at the end. So in fight you will try to score in others when you be all ready dead.
In fact, you are correct in this mention. It is definitely a martial art--however, it is now a sport for you do not truly/intentionally hurt someone to kill them.
Now, if you compare that to Tae Kwon Do, Judo, etc., then no, it is not an archetypal martial art.
Everyone has his/her own view on this matter, but a fact is a fact.
if you are talking about sabre you are correct..foil incorrect. it may say in the USFA rule book but the common interpretation of judges if you are moving at the person with the tip of your blade directed at valid target you gain right away.
ok the USFA rule does state "an attack is a continuous extending arm directed at valid target"...if you want to be technical..the fact of the matter is the rules are interpreted differently..you've obviously never fenced in a national/usfa tournament before..because you would understand how the directors call actions now. i agree the rules say arm must go first..but interpretation are different thats what i'm saying...so plz dont think i've never fenced before when i've done plenty of fencing
and again...just because you extend your arm does not mean you get a tuche...right of way rules only apply when more then 1 light goes off..i could hit you on a counter attack while your attacking and you miss or the machine times you out...i dont have the right of way..but i still go the tuche none the less
she looks amazing arghh^^

@CaptainAbrecan i would disagree with that. fencing is still a sport regardless whether its really popular anymore.

You should also watch the entire video. Otherwise, you look like a fool... like you do.

Why do you keep making analogies to killing? Fencing is a sport.

most people find it a sport but to me it's a type of european martial art

Seriously. Another person mentioned something about broadswords and such. FENCING IS A SPORT NOT WAR
imisspokemon 3 years ago
Seriously, fencing IS a martial art. Olympic fencing is a sport. Simply google "classical fencing".
jbujko 3 years ago
Fencing is a martial art by definition. Any experienced fencer would say this.

@nimitzhema i know a lot of experienced fencers who completely disagree with you. I also disagree with you.

not if ur moving it backwards, therefore u must move it forwards (extending)
