  • Beta-est of the beta.

  • "would you turn that video camera of please, fuck you" haha

  • Crowd member - Ian would you mind being quiet for about 30 minutes I cant here myself speak while your playing your crappy music with your Dog faced wife

  • The music is super light, so everyone has to shut up to hear it. And I guess he doesn't like being filmed.

  • where's the hardcore Ian??

  • I hate when people talk at shows continuously. I would be pissed off if people were talking at my show, I mean come on your watching Ian Mackaye of Minor Threat, The Teen Idles, and Fugazi.

  • he should smoke some pot to relax HAHA!

  • lol WTF happened to this guy to make him suck so bad now?

  • what a controlfreak

  • haha honestly if your set can be drowned out by people talking, you need to turn your fucking amplifier up. and as for people being opposed to recording shows, that's just bullshit. i think if you're gonna perform you should encourage your fans to record you and share your performance.

  • @jasonlitherland That is an opinion (i cant really argue that its a bad one)(especially for promotion on your part) and alot of bands have other opnions. Maynard J. Keenan from tool doesnt allow cameras because he feels that it makes many feel un-easy. You're less in the moment because you realize you're somewaht under the scrutiny of the camera. I personally dont like being taped. Artists who taped themselves should tape themsleves and not the crowd. In my opninion.

  • @DuppyBruh i know all too well how awkward it can be to watch yourself back on a recording. but when you put yourself on a stage you're putting yourself out of control of everything except the instrument you're playing and the songs you're promoting with your presence. that's supposed to be the beauty of it, and if the music Ian's playing doesn't move him to do anything but gawk at the audience and tell em to put their phones away then he should stop pretending to be mellow. cause he's not.

  • what is this guys dea? relax haha

  • you know your music must be exciting when people can talk louder than your music

  • Loved Fugazi from when I was a teenager. What is this song? It sounds great

  • @PlazaMoon It's Ian's new(er) band called the Evens. WAY different from Fugazi but still good in it's own rite.

  • If Ian tells you to be quite you fucking be quite. If he tells you to stop taping you stop taping. What the fuck were you doing at that show if you weren't going to respect the man.

  • Intense drumming.

  • He has a right to tell them to shut up. You don't go to a music performance/concert to talk, you go there to listen, watch, or dance.

  • Will the people on stage be quiet for about....forever. Gee ian, thats enough, we dont care anymore...we just came to get coffee and chat and shit, you're here. Wrecking our conversation with this scary talent of yours. Forget it guys, lets just go to a bar and get drunk, talk about our straight edge days...when music was actually good...first round's on me.

  • everyone hush so you don't mess up my boring ass music.

  • ahhahahaha thats the best ending ever.

Don't quite know why it was so offensive-perhaps Ian thought "Hey this kid might sell it" but....

  • I can see getting upset with people talking (personally I could give a shit less, I play to get my ya-yas out. If you don't wanna listen, well you payed to get in so your problem not mine) but why the whining about taping? Maybe I'm just from a different generation or something.

  • I say you're totally missing the point. I say that sucks for you.

  • no offense at all, i really dont care, but the girl on drums seriously looks like she's on heroin. and if i were in ians place i would let it go, simply because if i'm playing music that i care about and people arent interested enough to listen on their own because they want to, then i dont want those people listening to what i'm doing anyway because they won't respect it for what it is

  • maybe people would shut up if ian still played fucking hardcore

  • Awesome!!!

  • this sucks don't blame them for taking. she can't even keep the beat if that's what she is trying to do.

  • does he know that hes not that good?

  • wow ian, fucking take a chill pill

  • this is why i enjoy stealing his music

  • what asshole would talk through this show.

  • Talking (loudly) during live shows almost literally makes me sick, I think the worst I've ever heard it was in live videos of Elliott Smith, I'm not sure if you know of him or not but a lot of times he played acoustic sets, he's playing the most beautiful songs you've ever heard and half the crowd is just fucking YAMMERING, non-stop. It's different if it's an open mic night or coffee house show or something, but to go to a concert to hear someone play and just talktalktalk, such disrespect.

  • @angryhobo212 i know it. i am familiar with him.

  • seen fugazi live quite a few times and even some free shows they put on outside that were just phenomenally cool! But...there was one show where Ian got pissed and bitched the audience out. He kept stopping the song to tell the audience they weren't allowed to dance. I thought it was due to the terriblly unappreciative audience ignoring him....But THEN, my friend swore them off as he was kicked outta their show for dancing! Ian's a pioneer, and still does impressive things for his community but-

  • hey at least he didnt go all michael richards on their asses

  • People calling him a dick should realize that there's no context and none of us know what happened before and after.

  • It seems like he was just in a bad mood. He was already pissed at the dumbasses in the back talking. Theyre are plenty of other videos of The Evens live. He doesnt do that every show.

  • i appreciate everything ian has done for music and in particular the city i live in. he's an institution. but he's an asshole and has always been. he doesn't give a shit.

  • This was not in a "show space" but rather a vegetarian cafe. People were there that were trying to just eat dinner.

  • this guy is a hugde dick id be like "suck me fuckin dick you fuckin cock ibought this video camera and i can do what the fuck i want to do with it..your lucky i dont shove it up your fuckin ass you bold fuck!!!"

  • @logansdrums You don't know why he asked to have the camera turned off, best just show some respect just as the person who filmed this did.

  • Probably just in a bad mood. Nothing to make a huge fuss over.

I know some very awesome people in various bands who I've seen act like a dick when they are in a bad mood on stage, but all around they are very great people.

  • Why would he want them to stop taping?

  • What song is this?

  • @BrutalizeURf4ce "Shelter Two"

  • @daviddowns81 Thanks

  • ian would have been better served, and his image would have been less tarnished if he had let them talk. this shit is garbage

  • I agree with Ian. I love Fugazi and Minor Threat, and I don't think Ian's God, but I remember to the days where I did stand-up in high school, and I hated the fact that people were talking during my act. I'm not going to say that I did great, but I know the feeling of wanted to be respected. You paid for a show along with the people around you. Treat people how you would like to be treated. If you wouldn't want people talking or taping during your show, why would you do it to someone else?

  • I thought the song was good and figured the people were being rude. *shrugs*

  • I had a chance to meet Ian Mackaye back in 07 when the Evens came through. Definitely a nice guy ( even got a picture with him ), but I will admit he's a very intimidating individual from a far.

  • even if he was being a dick. let him be, just count the number of times you have acted in a way that you don't feel too good about now. he is just ian mackaye a musician, not god, he doesn't have to be perfect all the time.

  • dude, ive always thought thought ian mackaye was the shit and ive loved minor threat for yeeeears but, to all you kids who are trying to defend him, he was totally being an asshole

  • That drummer chick doesnt look happy

  • drummers ok i think, theres wierd delay on her setup maybe.

  • @n00bBalance Dunno man.... i've played drums for 13 years I noticed her mistakes instantly

  • Comment removed

  • umm to people who want to talk while somke one is performing we rather you stay home if your at a show just to talk and get laid and drink your fucking boozes go to a party and put on a stereo and don't pay attention to the music there, but when you go to a music show it's usually to listen to some god damn music, I totally understand his attitude and I agree with the last comment when your in a band or have performed you know how it feels to be listening to peoples comments about their fb's

  • IT IS social event fuck that he aint my daddy if i wanna have a good time and talk and drink beer while a band his playing then why the fuck not this aint school where the teacher can shoosh me..FUCKING ROCK N ROLL

  • @txteabagger because people have paid to hear a band and not paid to hear you drink beer and talk ...is that so hard to comprehend. You wait ten years to hear your favourite band and some cunt spoils it by talking..is that cool???

  • @monkeygonetoheavensi you sound like you are attending a neil diamond concert .you probably stand with your arms crossed at the front of the stage sighlentley swaying .

  • I'm going to pretend this doesn't suck ass because I'm a Fugazi and Black Flag fan.

  • @bucktoofus he wasnt in black flag

  • what song is this

    really nice and mellow

  • Drummer is off.

  • Talking during shows is one of the most fucking annoying things you can do. For some people, they enjoy just listening to the music and connecting with it. It's not a god damn social event. This is grade school shit; If someone is presenting, you shut up and pay attention. If that doesn't fly with you, you can fucking leave. (I don't know why you'd come to a show to talk anyway, that just seems strange.)

  • @dirtyhandgesture it actually IS a social event and people like to make comments about the show as they see it to each other talking all over an acoustic set sux i get it if you r loud thru the whole set but it seemed ian wanted to cause a scene here.

  • This music sucks shit

  • ppl can and if they want they should talk at shows and fuckin documenting it is a great thing!! , ian gotta chill cuz thats a shitty attitude

    IN MY OPINION OF COURSE

  • at this venue near where i live there is a sign that says, word for word "SHUT UP no-one paid to listen to you talk to your pals. if you wan't to talk to your pals when the bands are on, PLEASE LEAVE THE VENUE"

  • You know what I hate (speaking as a performer in a bottom tier punk band and as a fan)? People in the audience who only show up to get piss drunk and slosh around in the pit and abuse the bands. Shows are supposed to be entertainment, yes, but we're not your personal fucking slaves, dancing jesters to amuse the lumpenproletariat. It would be rad to play a show - or to merely attend one - where there was more than a passing connection between fan and band. Point: I get where Ian's coming from.

  • @thultner If you were better that might not happen.

  • i also have to say i find The Evens exceptionally boring.

  • i can get with the NOTION... but then I also think if you're gonna perform live you make certain concessions to your audience... not the least of which is vulnerability. I also think putting people on the spot by addressing people talking or videoing in this manner is just as rude as say TALKING during the performance. i dunno. ian does what he wants and wants things just so. he's a very grumpy/anxious man.

  • I'd have trouble disliking anything Ian does. seems like a nice chap, plus he has been involved with some mega mega mega schweet music. I remember seeing Fugazi when I was about 14 years old (1992), sitting on stage by Ian's feet with sweat pouring all over me. Still inspires me thinking back nearly 20 years! shiz

  • If I was one of "the people in the back" I would have hurled a brick at Ian Macakye

and told him to stop playing crappy gay music and reunite minor threat

  • @CoolWhippedNegro Ian is allowed to be a person. He can make whatever music he wants to. Deal with it.

Ad if you hurl a brick then you would most likely get tackled and beaten up. Which would amuse me.

  • yeah... it's pretty much impossible to judge someone's reaction when all we see is like a 1:28 of footage. Who cares anyways this guy was apart of some pretty crazy ass music. Were all human

  • WOULD THE PEOPLE ON STAGE ... MIND PLAYING SOMETHING WORTH A DAMN ... FOR ABOUT THIRTY MINUTES!!

    Jesus what a douche....

  • ian maybe got sick of telling people in the front how to be, time to give shit to the people in the back

  • you're all a bunch of self-absorbed, narrow-minded, lemmings. i've filmed the evens twice and he's never said a word. ever think maybe he just had a bad night? nah can't be, he's too perfect, too self absorbed, THE self-proclaimed hero and savior of punk who's now just turned into a grumpy old man. lol @ taking 1:27 from a video taken 3 years ago and now turning against him. funny thing is, i'm 100% sure he doesn't give a shit. now THAT i can back.

  • WOW! poor ass drumming! ouch!

  • @SammyMcwammy Her drumming is fine. She puts her drums through a reverb affect, which doesn't translate well onto a crappy video. Listen to the record.

  • and I will say that this band is one of the worst things I have heard in some time I am surprised it is coming from Ian he usually does great things.

  • Ian became the cranky old man here lmao.

Except I hate it when you go to shows and can't hear because of the hater's yelling and 15 year old girls screaming about tit signing

Its stupid. Crowd interaction is great but not the way its done most of the time

  • he acts like the employe of a 7-11 when the kids from the hood are messing around

  • @sesper

    lol

    thats funny and so true.

all Ian needs is a an indian accent.

  • And yeah if an artist says no taping, it's their call, legal or not. Why should you be able to give their performance away for free when they did the real work? Plus the audience probably paid to be there (I know, not cool that I'm sitting here watching it for free too...) But think about it, a professional musician is just that. They make their living from recordings and performances. If customers could come in to where you work at Wal Mart and take part of your pay you'd try to stop it too.

  • Anyone saying this girl can't keep time needs to listen closer. She's not perfectly in time with the delay effect but considering it's repeating her fills in addition to the 2 and 4, that would be hard to do. If you ignore the delay effect, her drumming is actually quite good. A drummer doesn't need to play in perfect time to have a good groove anyway, listen to John Bonham. If you think he played in perfect time, you're in no position to critique anybody's drumming.

  • its all down hill from here

  • People should shut up anyways, once they realize this is Ian.

  • "Would the people in the back mind being quiet for about 30 minutes because our band is the aural equivalent to wallpaper & WE'RE going to be quiet for about 30 minutes..."

  • @jackshaw

    I don't get it...

  • @InsideYoFeebleBrain I KNOW! Why won't they just get live & drown those pricks out? I don't get it either.

  • i love how when ian tells you to turn it off, YOU TURN THE MOTHERFUCKER OFF

  • Oh, about the youtube moment thing, whoops

ha ha, guess he didn't want that embarrassing moment to be taped period, because he knew eventually it would get out like it has. You did exactly what he didn't want you to do.

  • sweet Danelectro...

  • Just because he was Fugazi and Minor Threat and Embrace doesn't give him the right to tell people to shut up. If he told me to shut up I'd tell him to fuck off. Believe.

  • @Safetysnaith that's because you are an asshole, apparently. Don't go to live music performances, if you want to run your mouth...go outside.

  • @FNTM3rd Get fucked.

  • @Safetysnaith wow, dude--such an intelligent reply...I feel so 'put in my place'.

Whatever, punk---you are just PROVING yrself to be an asshole, so keep on...

  • @Safetysnaith Stop being a fuckin baby. Wanna cry because he won't let you talk during his PERFORMANCE? Christ. . And he was trying to be as nice as he could about it. You can talk anywhere else than at the time. Who knows when he'll be in that venue again? Not saying The Evens are huge, but you ruin it for everyone.

  • @RawwestHide You can get fucked too.

  • Who the FUCK wouldn't be paying attention to Ian Mckaye?

  • @pukeoncops123 thats should be common sence mate

  • @pukeoncops123 I wouldn't - he can barely play and this is some boring indie pop shit! Fugazi sucked it HARD as well! This clown hasn't done anything interesting in almost 30 years!

  • Comment removed

  • did he said thank you of fuck you at the end? :D

  • i hate when people go to shows and just sit in the back and talk. it defeats the purpose of even going.

  • @PissGeneration because there's no room at the front. They just want you to think there is, so we stopped looking. why?

  • Still go that punk in him. Still yelling, it sticks with you forever... never goes away.

  • the fuck was with that drummer? she kept falling off the beat

  • @dumb14wanker she had an a delay or echoing effect on....multiples on a single hit

  • hahaha. no taping! jesus ian what the hell?

  • wht the fuck is this?????? ian were you feeling ok that day

  • I Ian had too much to drink before this gig, thats why he was straight edge..couldn't handle it!

This band really suck...maybe he doesn't want this shit getting out cos he knows its crap....

  • Coooolll!

  • Asshole.

  • On a side note: i'm pretty sure anyone who would disagree with that statement would be the kind of individual who also doesn't understand the reasoning behind purchasing CD's and would rather rip music without paying for it... in which case, i don't have enough time or the energy in my fingers to lay it out more elaborately for you. odds are, if your'e an artist.. you get it. if you aren't.. you don't.

  • as a musician and a fan of music i can completely understand both points of view.. the artists point of view is simple: there is no way to capture that moment or the way the music sounded in that room(especially with a camera 'some guy' brought from his house)without doing the music a disservice.. if the artist gives the OK thats a different story. i personally enjoy watching live performances of artists, but ultimately it should be up to the band/artist... respect their decision.

  • Comment removed

  • yeaaah... someone filming you because they love what you do and you tell them to stop is an asshole thing to do. i'm glad this is uploaded. lost some respect for him aswell.

  • @hendrixonlsd They filmed because they saw a youtube moment, not because they liked the songs. You see how they didn't put up any songs? He was embarrassed and didn't want the people to see him that way because most would think he was a dick. . Look what happened. This probably went on both before the guy started taping and after he stopped.

  • sick drums.

  • I'll be quiet when you start playing something worth listening to.

  • @musicajuro hah hah

  • what did he say after you turned off the camera and the song ended?

  • hahahahah Ian Mackaye is the man.

  • To all the people complaining:

have you been in a band ? have you tried comunicating through music ? have you ever felt how strange and annoying it can be to feel someone is not listening with their mind and ears, but focusing in what the musician looks like, and making him feel self-conscious about that ?

not everyone feels good being in the spotlight. some of us want to just play and be listened. not recorded. not grasped down in images. just listened.

that is how i feel. take care.

  • i wouldn't mind if the females in the crowd were focusing on how i looked because in the end it means i get blow jobs and pussy.

  • @rockabillysilly ugh....you're an idiot

  • @miguelbaptista Yes I am in a band I make my living at being in a band, I tour and often play a lot of acoustic shows. Ian has been around long enough to know this is what you must deal with when you play acoustically. Watching this video I really think that this video best encapsulates what I hate about music and "the scene" Fuck Ian and this band really sucks, I liked Fugazi but this is horrible.

  • @miguelbaptista I strongly disagree, I loved Minor Threat and like Ian Mackaye but Its up to the musician to play music that will make the audience listen and WANT to shut up of their own accord...if you can't keep a crowd captivated by your music they will lose interest, plus they paid their money for it so it's pretty much their choice.

  • @miguelbaptista blah, blah, blah....

  • @miguelbaptista lol, who said these people were doing any of these things? if you have issues with being self-consious, you are in the wrong industry. Let people talk and have fun, and play your set. They were in the back of the room, not at the front of the stage... people are allowed to converse with one another..

  • @daviddowns81

Ian, and myself, are speaking about taking pictures and filming. So yes, we are in the right industry, its music, not modelling.

  • @miguelbaptista naw, if people wanna take pictures or film, unless otherwise stated before hand, it is their right, Ian is just being a whiner. He allowed filming in the Minor Threat days, the Fugazi days and now all of a sudden he said it is not ok. People have a right to take pictures, and people have a right to film if they want. Let the fans have a keep sake of the events if they need be. Punk was about freedom, and rights to be yourself, not being a picture nazi.

  • @miguelbaptista futhermore filming is added promotion. it allowsyour music to be put out to place that would not be able to see it live, one of the biggest problems with punk is that most places will not have all ages shows, which singles out a lot of fans of the music, who are not able to be a part of it first hand cause they book them in clubs and bars that are 21+ in the USA. So I say filming allows those people to be able to be a part of something they would not be able to otherwise.

  • he shoulda been like "may I ask WHY??"

  • fuck yeah!

  • I was at a show where he did exactly this. I wasn't filming, just there to enjoy, but I film bands professionally & major artists obviously require clearance, but the thing that never rested with me since is exactly that 'grass roots' image McKaye puts over. He can be all soapbox DIY & put on the CD art for Dischord 'Don't pay more than $8' to stick it to a record store, yet wouldn't let some kid that loves what you do film it? Hard to reconcile. Shame I lost a little respect for him since then.

  • uh yea you can fuck off, thecodeisred

  • would you turn that video camera off please? Fuck you. Ian, what was the point of that.

  • Musical sucking is a matter of opinion. It's not grumpiness when people devote time and energy to see/hear a band and inconsiderate people ruin it for others. The volume of their band is great because you can actually hear their words, unlike 96% of rock shows that fuck it up by turning up to loud.

  • my god people, where is the testosterone?

  • PLUS, this music sucks anyway, i don't know what he is doing.

  • Then start your own band and sing about it.

  • touche

  • The majority of the people there probably came to listen to the evens play rather than listen to people in the back. Ian was being curteous to the people who actually went to see the band. If you cant respect a musicians wishes during a performance you should probably learn common decency.

  • Why would you bother going out to a show if you want to have a discussion? Seems like you could find a quieter place.

And, sadly Ian must still be a school teacher...for showgoing retards.(No offense meant to the mentally disabled.)

  • if he couldnt hear then he should have played louder,

    fucking school teacher.

  • dont hate on ian, he started the straight edge movement, and if u go to a show, arent u there for the music?

  • @fresh 098

i don't hate ian, he is a personal hero of mine and my biggest musical idol, but when he starts shit like this something has to be said. this is not musical compassion, this is a grumpy old man who need to get laid.

  • Exactly, what's the point of paying to see a band, ignoring them and then getting pissy about them being offended by you going all that way to the gig just to ignore them?

  • ya ik

  • @nwcrouch Agreed but the camera thing was just dumb. Mackaye has a better than you additude that pisses me off.

  • Yeah I agree with the camera thing to an extent, he does have the tendency to get annoyingly sanctimonious about how grass roots he is, but I do admire his courage to fight back against laws banning kids of a certain age from shows and stuff, his sincerity and willingness to actually act on & remain stay true his punk manifesto in a po tositive constructive way is surprisingly rare in most agenda-driven bands, even though he takes it all way too srsly. The camera thing was maybe...

  • ...a step too far, but then again I've played on stage in bans with people filming and it can get really distracting and put you off, maybe it was more that than some sort of anti-gig-video-taping principle, and it just came out sounding rude because he was still all cranky from the people talking in the back. I'm not some Mackaye-die hard who wants to defend his every action, just a fellow musician who can somewhat sympathise. But yes you're right, to reiterate, he does take stuff too srsly.

  • @nwcrouch agreed.

  • He was being considerate to the people who wanted to listen to the music.

  • Are you seriously hating on school teachers? Wtf? So you never went to school? You don't know how to do math, read, write, spell, etc.? Think twice before you type, dumb ass.

  • Lame

  • MINOR THREAT

  • I can understand him not wanting people talking loudly .. it ruins the show for other people too.. but the taping? I don't really see how it affects anybody in a bad way.

I like Fugazi and what they stood for, but this is just silly.

  • drumming was out of time anyway fuck it... sounded horrible

  • All these complaints mean shit - people that talk at shows should go away.

  • This guy is a pussy

  • what fame? he's known throughout the punk and straight edge communities. but fame? i wouldn't consider him to be famous. he's not on TMZ and he's not hounded by paparazzi man. he's just Ian.

  • not literally, i mean his music. it's no secret and it wasnt in the 80's underground punk scene. anyone who went to fucking show with minor threat knew who they were. maybe not everyone. thats not a bad thing.
