This is a great movie clip, definitely worthy of Industrial Light and Magic. The reality is that the defense from shoot downs are dependent on what the tracking system of the missile is.  If it's radar, linked to the launcher you drop below terrain, once your radar sig is lost, so is the missile. It it's heat seeking, infrared flares are the device of choice. Jam the seeker and you lose the missile. You cannot out turn or out run these missiles. They are faster and turn tighter than planes.

A Tomcat would have dodged these missiles more easily by simply outflying them.

F-18 can't go supersonic at low attitude.

F-14 can go Mach 2 even at treetop level.

@ES350ES350 i have some doubts..none of the jet fighters can go more than 1500 kmh(mach 1.2) at low alt.Too dense air(and even more dense in winter).

There are some "minor" problems with your post:

All modern jet fighters can reach mach 2 at high altitude only. It is cannot reachable at low altitude because the dense air. F-18s are much more manuveurable than the big and heavy F-14s. And by the way, air-to-air and SAM missiles travel at mach 4, so no jet can outfly them. The only way to dodge them is a 90 degree turn in the last moments before impact, with the constant drop of flares.
