  • It is a Pignut Hickory.

  • Hickory nut????

  • it's a buckeye tree i think

  • Comment removed

  • If I'm not mistaking, that looks like pecan and it's very much edible. Though to be fair I have been living in north east Arkansas for the last 5 years so it's almost cheating.

  • In the original video that is a hickory nut and judging by the thickness of the husk it is probably a pignut or bitternut.Question is it a hard or soft hhickory.if soft you can crush it in your teeth and it is probably a bitternut. if hard it is probably a pignut

both are edible, and the native people and folks today like myself make hickory nut milk yum.

    thanks

check out my vids and comment thanks

  • They look like pignuts but not the kind most people are used to seeing.

  • " ID This Nut ? " well that's a difficult one considering the little evidence given / shown in the vid, but I reccon I would be on the right track by saying, Male, white Caucasian ( although he is not in Caucasia in the vid ), and he is married ( see the ring ) but as to identifying him, I give in !! lol

  • yea, dude, this quiz is only good for the maybe 100 mile radius that they grow in........unless you happen to live in russia, china, france, germany, england, mexico, egypt, canada. and all 50 states of america all at the same time!

  • it looks like a bitternut hickory

  • i have a lot of those in my area

  • Get a better camera

  • looks like one of the species of hickory nut

    cant see it really clear.....

  • The video quality sucks so hard all I see is squares.. The darker squares in what looks like your hand (flesh color squares) could be anything with that quality of video..

  • hazelnut

  • A pistachio

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahah

  • Pecan tree and the nuts are edible.

  • Interesting question. We don't have hickory nuts here, so I'm not familiar with them. Any idea what went wrong with this video?

  • Video was a bit blurry(or actually blocky!) but it looked like a hickory nut to me,I only saw the outside shell & not the nut itself but these are edible nuts.

  • First let me say your camera skill could use some improvement . Your shot of the tree was jaded by the bright sky behind .

But all things considered it was still an easy one . Beech nut . Unlike acorns beech and hickory nuts actually taste good . I live in the Northeast and we have so many wild eats , lots that actually taste really good .

  • It's a hickory nut. Yes they are edible. To make cracking them easier, fill a pot full of nuts and pour boiling water over the nuts...let cool. Do this 3 times then crack them.

  • I think it looks like a hickory nut, but I couldn't really see the bark or leaves enough to tell. :)....so what kind of nut is it?

  • wall nut

  • its a beech nut, the beech only produces fruit every 3-4 years,it is edible

  • Hickory nut, its edible just nasty as shit.

  • The nut in this video is from the american beech tree. The bark would look similar to that of a young red oak, they grow to 100ft tall. It is very definitely not an acorn, and hickory would have the big outer shells all over. They are edible and squirrels love them. Beech trees are pretty common in the north east.

  • This does look like a hickory nut!

  • that looks nothing like an acorn, still i don't know what kind of nut it is though.

  • pecan***

  • i do feel sorry for you.. acorn? come on now!

  • It's a hickory which is in the same family as pecans. You can tell it's a hickory and not a pecan because the pecan shell splits in half while the hickory splits into quarters. I have a ton of shag bark hickory trees here in TN. Shag barks are easy to identify because of their shaggy bark. Google Shag bark hickory for pictures and you will be able to easily identify it in the future.

  • looks like a hickory nut to me.

  • i've seen these nuts in my back woods and the same tree...... bosh i wish i new lol... i think the tree is a maple.

  • definitely not a pecan or acorn. have you ever seen how big pecans actually are?

  • this is a pecan tree and they are pecans yes they are edebal

  • its an acorn, duh!

  • if you don't care then why did you watch it in the first place? afterall, this is youtube!!

    get real

  • Hickory dippy

    THis guy irritates me...

  • I am pretty sure that it is a specie of pecan

  • Hickory

  • ITS AN ACORN DUH

  • It's a Shagbark Hickory nut I think but I need a closer view of the tree bark.

  • hickory nut

  • my nut?

  • lol

  • It's just a hickory nut. You can eat them, but, but they are hard as hell to get in to. You would burn more energy getting to the nut than you would ever get out of it.

  • hickory nut

  • it is a pecan

  • Not as utty as this "surviaLOST" guy. Just like in his videos, I've tried to test my survival skills and did pretty good as long as I had a pick up. Colemen stove, Alice packs, potable water, axe, maul, packaged food and the like. I did mess up with the accent...I speak English well.

  • Pignut hickory, edible, but sometimes bitter.

  • This nut is a Kev! =)

  • hickory nut

  • nobby's nuts

  • It's a Beechnut.

  • pecan?

  • The second link in the video description will take you to the discussion thread on this video. The answer has been posted there.

  • you sit under this tree with a 22 and wait for the local tree rat herd to show up to the party.

  • yeah i is a Hickory nut

  • Looks like a hickory nut to me. However, they are rather small.

  • Jacknut, the nuts jack you up like coffee. Smoking the leaves is like eating magic mushrooms.

  • hickory

  • its a shagger nut often seen in nowhere!

  • It is a hickory, but i believe it's a shagbark hickory.

  • pignut hickory, i would have to see the tree, when did the nut fall?

  • You haven't fallen too far from your tree. Good vid. I'll guess Hazel nut or pecan. Do I get two guesses?

  • its weiner nut

  • coconut

  • Looks like Mai nuts.

  • Thats a peanut tree!!

  • Have you ever seen Mr. Peanut?

  • my nut

  • 4 segments on the husk make this a hickory. Edible yes.

  • pig nut

  • the kind that squerrils eat

  • argh i forget the name, they split into 4 and have usually a few segments inside which you need to peel and they are edible and quite tasty too :D

  • its a fucking pecan

  • no its not you idiot

  • I believe it is a corn nut or possibly a grape nut.

  • post the answer already... been 12 days

  • The answer was posted on the website almost 2 weeks ago. Click the "more info" link in the video description, and you will see "Discuss this video here -" with a link. The video was posted there, along with pictures. If your not visiting the website, you missing out on a lot of information.

  • So SB what exact hickory (droop)nut is it?

  • hoosierarcher - in the video description there is a link to where the video is embedded in the forums. Visit that link, the video was posted there along with pictures. One of the members of the site posted the type of hickory nut it is.

  • So it was one of the two I most thought it was.

  • Myristicaeformis

    a type of hickory nut...

  • thats a hickory nut.I saw one of those today in the woods.

  • i didnt have to watch the video, i just saw the picture and the title and concluded that is a hickory nut. which it is

  • it would have helped if i could have seen the bark, but it seemed dark so its not a beech its a hickory. I think your safe eating any "nut" but they aren't all tasty.

  • it's food

  • its a beachnut...thats too easy and yes it edible and beach tree

  • hickory nut,

  • It's a Hickory Nut, and it is edible, but you need a hammer and an anvil to crack the shell, and a dental pick to extract the meat.

  • thats a coconut!

  • pignut

  • yup i'd say a hickory nut.

  • looks like a hickory nut to me. Yes, they are edible.

  • Its an ACORN!!!

  • its an almond

  • First thing or nut that comes to mind is Hickory Nut. Hey, what or how does the number 10 designate the round of ammo you were using in your previous squirrel hunting video? I am only familar with the 22Short, 22Long, and 22Magnum rounds of ammo in the 22 caliber.

  • When are you going to show how to make grape wine ??

  • jenkypin nut ? (may not be spelt right )

  • They're pecans but IDK what type of tree it's from.

  • I say Hickory, wish I could see the bark better

  • Carya pallida

    Family: Juglandaceae

    Common name: sand hickory

  • is it berch ?

  • butternut!

  • if you dot know what it is.. eat it and see if its edible

    just kidding.

  • didn't you ever eat pine nuts? they're delicious, and rather expensive to buy, so enjoy them for free when you can! ;)

  • Hazelnut ?

  • Is it true you can grind them up for a coffee sub.?

  • I agree they are probably hickory nuts, but a closer look at the bark and leaves would have been a better means of identification.

  • hickory nut

  • I think you're right on the money...look like hickory

  • Hickory nut!

  • yer vids are tha best!!!!!!!!!!!!it is edibal

  • looks like a nutmeg hickory.

  • Looks like Hickory leaves, but I don't know about the edibility of the nuts. I need to learn more about trees.

  • hickory

  • I think it's a hickory tree and nut. It is definately NOT a pecan tree. I have several pecan trees in my yard. I'm goin with hickory, and yes I believe they are edible.

  • It's not a walnut, walnuts are way larger and inside a big green ball.

    Hickory.

  • A wingnut!

  • acorn

  • IT"S AN ACORN~!!!!

  • It isn't black walnut. They drop tennis ball looking nuts. The outer hull is the size and shape of a tennis ball. Inside that is the traditional walnut you are familiar with seeing.

That nut in the video is a beech nut and yes you can eat them.

  • looking further on the internet .. looks like it is a Black walnut tree

    Juglans nigra

    google "black walnut"

"Black walnut was the number one prized fine hardwood in America at a time before the use of veneers"

  • second guess would have to be... from the same family... Arizona Walnut or Arizona Black Walnut

    but still a walnut...

  • Looking in my National Audubon book.. the only thing that comes close is from the Juglandaceae family.

"Texas Walnut" .. "Nogal".. or "Little Walnut"

So I would have to say its a walnut.

  • looks kinda small for one but im gona have to say hickorey nut, but im not positive after all the hickory nuts in our yard from our shagbark hickorey are larger than that

  • hickory nut, here in florida i see them everywhere when i go to camp grounds

  • I don't know the name of them. But I'm almost certain their edible. We got them here in NC and my daddy told me about them.

  • I Deez nutz

  • get'em when they're warm and they're even tastier, hickory nuts are great. I especially enjoy cooking game with hickory nuts.

  • i love me some pecan pie

  • Looks like a Hickory nut..but some don't taste that good.

  • OH an by the way hickory nuts aren't nuts they are droops. That is the technical name for the fruit of hickory tress.
