DADGAD tuning, only down 3 steps instead of the 1 step drops.

make the whole thing one gigantic power chord and eliminate all flexibility.

if your a big pickup guy, its really hard to get really specific pickups for seven string guitars. and for seven strings with floyds its godamn near impossible unless you like dimarzio,

witch i do, but only for a neck, never a bridge pickup.

F spaced (trembuckers) are very limited on seven strings

I can see what you're saying. When I do 6-string covers with a 7-string, I simply move one fret over when using those strings. But I don't get the "every note is the exact same" thing. You can still hear the timbre difference. And I don't see a problem tuning differently if you WANT to. Who makes the rules?

i completely agree man, you play how you want. when i play a 7 string, i play all 7 strings, and having that open, open, 2nd for your top is very unsettling if you do tune the F# to an F.

but on a six string you wont have that last 2nd to deal with and you can just stay open, open. but the main reason i like a six string is because i can be more dexterous, and my hand holds up longer without having to deal with all the extra reaching.

but thats just me. =)
